Having worked in a bookshop I feel I am qualified to say

the reason the Charlie Bone series wasn’t more popular is because they had hideous covers.

They were such wonderful books with great plots and everything alsdfkasjdfzxcoperweoirupaytonyewbeammarrymeasdfakzcv but every single edition had a really foul cover design and I think that’s why more people didn’t get into them.

This series, along with Harry Potter, were like crack to my tiny child self.

You know one of the main reasons I am sad to be growing up is that now I can’t play Olivia Vertigo when they FINALLY make a film version.

Oh well.

Maybe by the time they get ‘round to it I’ll be able to play Julia instead.

imagine charlie comes up to dagbert like; "Ive found out how to break your generational curse! just be gay!"

(im assuming it only passes through blood)

It would be very funny if Dagbert broke the curse just because he was the first openly gay Grimwald in 800 years. Any kids he adopted are safe from the curse.

Though Dagbert wouldn't know if adopted kids count or not, so the safest he can be is to marry a cis man and adopt a trans girl. Though it's 2004 so he might not realize that so maybe he'd adopt a "cis girl" and then it's roulette if his kid actually is a girl or not.

If he manages to dodge every bullet and survive with a husband and daughter, best possible outcome.

Though I doubt Dagbert's thought that far when everyone and himself thinks he has a lifespan of 12 so he'd probably be like "omg Charlie ur a genius" and not realize the danger until he's much older.

Evil Lysander x Zelda would go hard. They'd be so powerful together. Luckily Zelda usually wait for orders and Lysander's chill enough to not provoke anyone that didn't piss him off first. Manfred's like "I need your ancestors to stab Charlie" and Lysander's like "I'm not fighting every battle for you. This is the third time this week you've asked me to kill him. I'm not your dog" and Manfred's like "but I NEED it this time. he woke up Emma Tolly >:(" and Zelda's like "can I throw Charlie against the building until all his bones break" and Manfred's like "no that's too public and messy" and then Zelda's like "can I throw him into the ruins and Asa can gore him" and Manfred's like "ok FINE since SOMEONE won't help me" and then Zelda does that but Charlie escapes and Manfred blames Lysander personally

Lysander hated the twins but didn't seem to share the same resentment for Zelda. One can only assume this meant he wanted to kiss her.

If Lysander can look past or even embrace the parts of her that tie young girls to trees as beast food and advocate for putting young boys in attics with rats and bats, I can see them getting along. They're both more serious types of people. She's not as ~*~chaotic~*~ as Tancred but she can still add some zest in his life and he can maybe make her less vicious. Actually ship cancelled I can never advocate for taming Zelda. Let her be the wicked girl she was born to be <3

Charlie & Benjamin date night but they’re broke so they just set up Charlie’s kitchen really fancy and Maisie pretends to be a waiter. The act gets several giggles from both of the boys and even some from Amy when she gets home that night.

Ranted about this in the server already but like. This line made me think of so many things, particularly that Charlie is technically telling the truth from his perspective here.

Obviously he has not literally known Benjamin for forever, they had 5 years of their lives separate before they met. But also, Charlie doesn’t really remember anything past being 5 years old, does he? Like he doesn’t even remember his dad because the dude went missing so early in his life, he doesn’t remember there being photos of his father, even. He BARELY remembered that the pictures were taken down by Grandma Bone.

So to Charlie that’s…probably true. In his mind he has known him for forever. He’s never not known Benjamin. They’ve been best friends for what they perceive as their entire lives so far.

And just the way that Charlie presents this is both so peculiar and so funny?? Like. Dude you could just say “I’ve known him since we were five.” But NO he says “forever.”

Imagine introducing your best friend to someone and saying “yeah this is ___ we’ve known each other our entire lives and in all our past lives, in fact we are intrinsically intertwined by our souls and cannot be separated for too long lest we begin to fade away.”

YESSSSSS. god. and like. "I'm stronger than you, Tancred Torsson!" because he HAS to be stronger. if he can't win against Tancred, he'll never win against Lord Grimwald. He can't be weak. If he let himself be weak, he's good as dead, and he doesn't want to die.

And, yeah, Lord Grimwald is the only role model he's ever had. His mom died when he was a little kid. So you're right, I think he would want to be like him, at least a little. And you're right, being like his dad feels like being someone who could live.
