Ealdwine Morris Eastcott (Winnie)
Tumblr media
Where is your character’s homeland?
He had several homes but mostly he lived in Southern Maine.  Like, the really upscale towns like Yarmouth and Wells and shit.
How did it influence your character?
I mean, he grew up wealthy.  So, this is a guy who never ever had to worry about money.
What kind of distinguishing features do they have?
Is bug.
The body is a very large millipede.  Like the size of a husky dude around, but longer.  His plates are thick and resistant to damage and he’s rather slow.  His head is more act-like, and he has ‘backward’ jointed mantis forelegs with mole-cricket paws, except covered in sensitive hairs that can smell.
Tumblr media
He can smell so well he can navigate himself in the dark or in loud places. His singular ear is on his chest, so his hearing isn’t the best.  He sees in all directions at once, in all colors, but it’s a bit blurry compared to human vision.  He has two vestigial wings and long, flexible antennae with hair-thin portions. When he rubs his antennae against his wings like a violin bow, he can produce sounds that sound like words…except for with an abundance of zzzz and vvvvv sounds.
Do they have a birthmark? Where is it? What shape is it? Do they have scars? Where and how did they get them?
Depends on the AU.  In most, he’s p recently transformed so he looks p pristine.  I think after a few years in the super hero au, he’d look b banged up especially on the trunk.
What is the characters home like?
Winnie is sort of like Batman except for I guess he took the whole ‘animal superhero’ advice thing too far.
He sleeps in his own lab, which is located in the top few floors of his medical research company.
When your character thinks of their childhood kitchen, what smell do they associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for them?
Fresh bread
Italians and tuna sandwiches.
Especially tuna sandwiches.  It’s the first food his nanny taught him how to make.
If they have a favorite scent, what is it?
Used to be cinnamon but he’s much more sensitive to spices these days.
Now he’s partial to the scent of rotting lettuce.  Not that he lets lettuce ‘mature’ for long before he has to eat it!
Where does your character go when they’re angry?
Into a blanket cave, all curled up into a spiral.
This is also true about him being sad and scared.  When he needs to cope, it’s time for The Spiral.
Tumblr media
Where do they put their favorite possessions while they’re sleeping?
Winnie keeps that stuff in a filing cabinet not far from his blanket caves.  Always just within reach when he needs them.
Where does your character sleep and what does it look like?
He likes to be under things when he sleeps so he’s crafted a bunch of caves and blanket forts.  And he sleeps in a spiral, as it so happens.  See the above image.
What is their normal daily routine?
Wake up, eat some literal garbage, phone in to some business meetings(as a human hologram, of course), do some research into the latest life saving drug, avoid lawsuits from his father and counter sue, do some superheroing, deny that “Bug Bug” the eccentric, hermit billionaire Ealdwine Eastcott are the same person.
Are they introvert or extroverted? Why?
Extroverted af.  He’d rather study for a test than go to a party.  And he really fucking hates his business meetings, even though he has to phone in every day for the sake of his employees and such.  In a way, he’s super glad he accidently turned himself into a bug. Being an eccentric hermit is a great excuse not to have to be face to face with rich assholes.
What are their mannerisms and demeanor like?
Like a bug.  Always kind of, chittering or vibrating or eating, always on the go unless it’s Spiral Time.  Slow, but active. Winnie talks in unnecessarily fancy words, and says “gracious” a lot. Which is funny, bc he can’t pronounce his s sounds.
What is something they do differently from most people?
Be a bug?
I mean, Winnie is p unique in that he’s a giant bug in this world. Not that there aren’t other super powered people who fight crime, but most giant bugs are basically like grown from smaller bugs, Food of the Gods style, and then used as minions.  A bug who not only is very smart but also a good guy is kind of a strange concept for people in this universe. And jysk, it pisses him off every time someone blows up an ant to destroy a city.  In fact he’s ‘rescued’ a few of these and sent them to a reserve for mutated insects on his own private island.
What is their idea of good entertainment?
Winnie’s absolute fav is bluegrass music.  He even likes to play!  His fiddling skills sure did help a lot when he was re-learning how to talk.  And fact, he and his ex Phillip have a bluegrass duo that plays every once in a while in select bars.  Winnie plays fiddle and Phillip plays mandolin.
How old would they see themselves as if they did not know their age?
Probs like early 20s.Winnie is constantly feeling like he only started to figure his shit out yesterday.  He also has this misconception that everyone who’s 21 already has figured all their shit out- except for him.
What do they want or need most?
What would they be willing to do for it?He does want to be honest and stop pretending to be an alien just to do his work.  But judging by his friends’ reaction to his transformation, he’s afraid the whole world is going to pity him and try to get him to turn human again.  For the record, Winnie has figured out how to reverse the transformation- he just doesn’t want to.   He’s much happier as a bug than he ever was as a human.
If they were to die and come back as another person or creature, what would they want it to be? What would it really be?
Pfffft, oh gosh.
Probably just a normal millipede that no one has any expectations of. But he would probably end up coming back as a deer.  Winnie has a v skittish personality.
How would they like to die?
Yowch.  You ain’t pulling punches.
It’s a cliche but, surrounded by friends. He only has a handful of people he considers true friends, so that shouldn’t be too hard.
Winnie doesn’t want to go down in history or make a huge impression.  He just wants to do Good Things while he’s here, in a way that makes him happy.

Walt’s EPCOT — the city, not the theme park — is presented as a utopia, but something about it has always felt off. I think I figured out what the problem is.
1. The city would be owned and run by the Walt Disney Company (instead of a representative government). So EPCOT’s citizens wouldn’t be allowed to vote over local issues.
2. To quote Walt, “[Citizens’] homes will be built in ways that permit ease of change so that new products may continuously be demonstrated.”
In other words, the company would proudly exercise its right to enter every household in the city, on the pretense of upgrading everyone’s toasters. So EPCOT’s citizens wouldn’t have the right to privacy.
3. Here’s Walt again: “EPCOT will be a working community with employment for all. And everyone who lives here will have a responsibility to help keep this community an exciting living blueprint of the future.”
In other words, everyone who lives in the city would also be required to work for the company. The company owns the land, the citizens work the land.
I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s feudalism.
Walt’s grand utopian vision – his “solution to the problems or our cities,” which would “never cease to be a living blueprint of the future” – was just feudalism that’s been dressed up to look like the Jetsons.

Most of the writer ask posts I come across are only like ten or so questions long so I thought I’d try to make a longer one because we like talking about our writing! Feel free to reblog!
1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction?
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
3) Do you prefer writing OC’s or reader inserts? Explain your answer.
4) What is your favourite genre to write for?

28) What is something you wished you’d known before you started posting fanfiction?
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
30) In contrast to 29 is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
31) Send me a fic recommendation and I’ll post it for my followers to see! (The asker is to send the rec not the answerer)
32) Are any of your characters based on real people?

A few things I want to tell you about Net Neutrality’s repeal.
No. Things aren’t going to change the moment your clock hits midnight. It will be a slow process, small peices and such.
Not all internet providers will do these things. Some will remain loyal and keep things fair and open for their customers.
You can easily find out if your provider will do anything by simply calling them or looking up official statements online.
And just because it’s happening doesn’t mean we lost. Call your state senators, or email them. Whatever works for you. Keep fighting and don’t let this go silent, it’s what they want.

“Keeping the internet open is critical for us. It powers social movements, and provides a global platform for people of color, LGBTQ folks and the most marginalized communities to tell their own stories, run their own businesses and route around powerful gatekeepers.”—Candace Clement, Free Press Action Fund Campaign Director via @fight4future
Starting today, June 11, U.S. internet providers will be legally allowed to censor and block websites and apps, and force you to pay extra fees to to access your favorite places online. Your internet sanctuaries, the communities you are part of, the ones you have help build up, could be decimated.
Will it happen today? No. Next week? Probably not. The changes will not be swift. They will come piece by piece. A slow, tempered death to the free and open internet we love.
It doesn’t have to be this way. You can still make a difference, Tumblr. We need the House of Representatives to sign a discharge petition in support of the Congressional Review Act that would force a vote on the floor.
Contact your reps—let them know you support net neutrality.
It’s so easy. Just go to BattleForTheNet.com, fill out the form, and follow their directions from there.
They have an updated widget for you to throw on your websites to urge others to make a difference. You can put it on your Tumblr. Let your followers know what you stand for, encourage them to do the same. It’s so easy to do. Just copy and paste their small line of code right into the customize theme page on the web.
Go, go, go, go. We know you have that passion in you. We’re fighting right alongside you.

The Pied Peter
Decided to post some more Glen prose tonight.  I think this one is my second favorite, after Tomo and Boshi.  It combines Peter Pan, Pinocchio, The Monkey and the Crocodile, The Pied Piper and The Willful Child, with cameos from characters from Rapunzel, A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream and Snow White.
I’ve been thinking a lot about villains.  I guess bc I have a hard time writing villains that I don’t eventually give a redemption plot.  It’s kind of hard to find that balance of making a villain’s actions make sense to themselves, but still making it clear they don’t deserve to be saved.
I think(hope?) I did it with Peter.  His villainous actions stem from a terrible lack of trust seeded by his(forgotten) mother.  That being said, the world keeps trying to teach him a lesson, and he refuses to learn.
A villain isn’t just a person who does bad things.  I villain is a person who keeps doing bad things despite all the chances to turn over a new leaf.
He never did have parents.  He couldn’t tell you why for certain, though he had plenty of stories to explain it.  “I was born from a pepper plant,” went one explanation, or “I’m a toy someone brought to life” or “I’m a prince, seperated from my family”.  The stories always had the drama or a Tale.  Never was it that he was just abandoned at an orphanage doorstep by parents who just couldn’t take care of him.
Peter was a mischievous boy, known for his pranks.  One day, he and some boys stole a small fishing boat and went to an island in the sea that would one day become Nysgerrig.  The island as home to a herd of wild donkeys and a large crocodile fell that the boys came to calling Mother Wendy.  The boys called the island Playtime Land, and resolved to never leave.  They built a town, and rides, and Peter even planted a field of pickled peppers.
But their caretakers at the orphanage worried about them dearly, and did want them to come home.  This was especially true when they learned of the monstrous crocodile who lived on the island.  They wanted to send someone to retrieve the boys from the island, but didn’t want to put anyone in danger.
So, a witch took a clock, and enchanted it until it became a man.  He seemed completely human, but for a ticking sound he constantly made.  The clock man, named simply Hook, was tasked with retrieving the boys.  He chartered a ship- not just a boat, but a ship- a sleek and fast clipper.

If society collapses and we gotta start living back in tiny tribal societies everybody’s gotta make sure when you start making those stories that get passed down through the ages that you include some ghibli movies in there. I want future archeologists to find multiple societies around the world worshiping chihiro the dragon rider goddess and howl the trickster god. We got one chance if it happens so don’t fuck it up

Telling your son not to “be such a girl” lets his sister who overhears the conversation know that being a girl is not a good thing and she should be sorry and ashamed of herself.
It also reminds your son that being a boy is better than being a girl and therefore he is better than any girl he will ever meet.
