Thanks for the suggestion! I used to listen to this song all the time, but it took me until now to realize something. Since the band name is Rare Americans, I thought they were an American band. But after looking at the part of the video where they’re doing lines, I saw that they were using Canadian bills to sniff it up, not American! Looked it up and yep, the band originates from Vancouver. (Also might be a coincidence, but the coffee cup he’s holding as a senior looks suspiciously like a Tim Hortons cup…)

You are completely correct and I am so sorry. I have been pretty busy lately but I’ve been busier before and still found a way to squeeze in goob drawings, I just completely forgot in this case. Thank you for notifying me of this mistake, and I hope this extra goob makes up for yesterday’s absence! :(

I don't know shit about CeVio to dump admittedly so we're skipping it, so UTAU is a free engine with user made voices. It's also abandonware since 2012 and is the sort of program where you need a lot of QoL plugins unless you want to have a miserable time with it. And while I could get into it far more than the following will it would sound unnecessarily mean and to anyone who works with it I love you, but yes it's that bad. If the programs old enough you have to change your computer local just for it to run properly on an english computer and you can't have more than one track at a time, it's that bad.

(There is a program called OpenUTAU that aims to be able to use a lot of the stylistic legacy plugins of UTAU while having a lot of QoL stuff be default but I've heard a variety of complaints some I don't understand and some I do. I respect the issues with messing with old plugins to get them to work, but I've also heard about how the envelopes of the tracks save being awful is one of the big complaints? Straight up not I'm techy enough to know what that means or why its bad)

Kasane Teto is the flagship, but she actually got an official high quality bank with SynthV. Apart from her it's probably Defoko or Utane Uta- but there's literally hundred of banks made by people out there.

Like, you'd be impressed! GUMI also has a synthV, she isn't exclusive to vocaloid! Stardust used to be but isn't now, and is also a synthV! Rosa was a Cevio only I think, and now isn't. Kafu is suspended indefinitely for synthV bank but they were *gonna*, Moca's come over just last week from VOICEPEAK, and in future Miki and Hiyama Kiyoteru are coming over from vocaloid :)

(it's not even unique for utau, Yamine Renri is also a synthv and has been for quite some time)

I can't faithfully argue that SynthV is the other of "the big two" if I had to say two, but CeVio doesn't have english options outside of like…. IA, which is one of their current 37 characters. SynthV focuses on a lot of realism in voices and is honestly just categorically my favorite engine of them all :) (cevio always sounds so… breathy? strained? something).

SynthV also has a pretty big line up of voices you can get, though I have to say dreamtonics (creator both the engine and of like, literally 40-45% of all available synths for the engine) is... intriguingly determined to make sure the voices have zero personality, in the design department. All good sounding but uhhh all of them are two letters, a brush pattern to fill in those letters, and whatever color they drew out the hat when making them.

Still, even if it's a weird mark on the engine it's not explicitly bad. Just really weird given the history of voca synths. And with the pretty determined approach to always update and bring improvements (e.g a fully functioning crosslanguage feature on all synths meaning even if they were only recorded in X they can sing in Y, Z, and W regardless, which the enginge v2 did NOT start with) I find it hard to maintain hate about it, even if I am a hater about it.

Vocaloids an engine not a genre title labeling synthetic voices, technically, though the word is used for both! Other engines include SynthesizerV, CeVio, UTAU, and quite a few others (but usage popularity + knowledge of these engines drops off hard after those names)! Vocaloids the most popular obviously though, as they're the old juggernauts with the queen of all the synths (nearly) exclusive to them; Miku!

That nearly is something I think a fair amount of people missed the news on; see, companies unrelated to yamaha (vocaloid engine creators/owners) manage their synths, and crypton (owner of miku, len/rin, kaito, meiko, and luca) went and made their own engine (piapro studios). Miku NT as the specific bank is called is actually pretty poorly received, but there's a vocaloid version announced for 6 (current engine number for vocaloid) in addition to an NT update, which I think is out already?

This turned out to be a lot about miku but she is the queen bee, love or hate her she's THE cornerstone of why we're at where we're at with voca-synths :)

I kept forgetting to respond to the GUMI favoritism accusations 😭

Don't get me wrong she's great but there's some English vocaloid georg going on, out of every popular vocaloid (that were originally in Japanese because that's just where the popularity Was and thus what was getting made and used for the most part) with an additional English voicebank, GUMI easily had the cleared English by a wide margin for a very long time

English native vocaloids also just straight up struggled to so much as match GUMI's popularity (let alone miku's) for a very long time, so she's got a very long and LARGE history of use for English songs as opposed to most anyone else, so she's very entrenched as the go to, which entrenches her further, etc.

Not to say nobody else ever got or gets used obv, and none of this touches the difference between a vocaloid and a SynthV bank (one that I'm abiding by in this conversation) but both of those are probably over clarification. Anyways for vocaloids specifically this is a vFlower and Dex stan, who'd love more copium about Po-Uta's ability to gain some footing but knows better ✌️
