We have met the five demands of the #EndSARS protesters – FG
Post We have met the five demands of the #EndSARS protesters – FG
The Federal Government says it has met the five demands of the End SARS protesters.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made the claims during a stakeholders’ meeting with members of the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) in Abuja.
Mohammed said the End SARS protesters had demanded the immediate release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families.
He said the protesters also requested that an independent body oversees the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct within ten days and the increase of Police salary to adequately compensate for the risks involved in protecting the lives and property of citizens.
The minister noted that the Federal Government was not only responsive to the demands of the End SARS protesters but was also very responsible in its handling of their requests.
He said, “As you can see, ladies and gentlemen we met the five demands.
“Some, like disbandment of SARS, were met immediately while we kick-started the process of meeting others that cannot be done with an immediate pronouncement.
“Despite this, the protest continued, and the demands kept expanding, until the protest was hijacked, leading to unprecedented violence characterized by killings, maiming, arson, looting etc.”
”The Federal Government was not only responsive but was also very responsible in its handling of the demands of the End SARS protesters” He claimed.

Post #EndSARS: We are prepared to face anyone who plans another protest – Police IG Warns
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Adamu Mohammed, in the recently concluded meeting with commissioners of Police, said that the Nigeria Police force is ready to deal with anyone who sponsor or take part in another protest across the country.
In his Statement he said during their meeting in the nation’s capital, Abuja with commissioners of Police, he stated that the force will not allow any type of the #ENDSARS related protest again in the country.
He added that; “Our constitution does not accept violent protests, so, I would advice those people that are planning to come up with another protest, if they have planned it to be a violent one, they should have re-think, otherwise, we are prepared to face them “We will never allow this type of EndSARS protests again. It was violent. Only Peaceful protest is allowed in our constitutions.
“When this process started peacefully, we provided security for them. We were moving with them to make sure they were not molested by any group of people and it was going on well until it turned violent.
“When it turned violent, they then attacked the people that were even giving them protection. So, we shall never allow any violent protest in this country again.
“We will protect this country from hoodlums. We’re to protect this country from violence, and we want every Nigerian to work with us.“We have also made a lot of arrests of those people that escaped from prisons. Some were arrested in Kano and Kaduna,” he said.

Post Diego Maradona: Argentina Star & Football legend, dies aged 60
The Argentinian football legend, Diego Maradona has died from a heart attack just days after turning 60.
He died at home, his lawyer said, just two weeks after having surgery on a blot clot in his brain.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time on the pitch, his life off the pitch was equally notorious – amid battles with drug and alcohol addiction.
Maradona won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986, having knocked England out of the tournament in a match which saw him score the famous ‘Hand of God’ goal.

NYCN Crisis: Plot to protest against Peace Corps establishment bill uncover – Millicent
Post NYCN Crisis: Plot to protest against Peace Corps establishment bill uncover – Millicent
The Peace Corps of Nigeria has alleged that it has uncovered plot by Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, his Board, National Executive Council and some past leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria to protest at the National Assembly against it’s Establishment Bill currently pending before the assembly.
Mrs Millicent Umoru-O, the Corps Public Relations Officer made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
Umoru-O said peace corps was not perturbed by any action taken against her, adding that it was instructive to note that, Prof. Dickson Akoh was not nominated to NYCN by the corps but his nomination was from the youth constituency in the North Central Zone.
She explained that Akoh contested and was duly elected into NYCN Board of Trustees.
Therefore, his well-deserved nomination to represent the Zone in the Board has nothing to do with Peace Corps of Nigeria.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria being the mouthpiece of all youth organizations and the generality of Youths in the country should rather protect the interest of Nigeria youths and not do otherwise.
The attention of the Peace Corps of Nigeria has been drawn to the plot already hatched by Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, his Board, National Executive Council and some past leaders of the National Youth Council of Nigeria who have been mobilised and sponsored into Abuja to engage lawyers with a view to meet with some legislators in the National Assembly.
And subsequently mobilize youths to protest at the National Assembly by against the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill currently pending before the 9th Assembly.
Let it be known that the Peace Corps of Nigeria have endured several institutional challenges in the last 30 years and have always emerged victorious.
The fact remains that Peace Corps of Nigeria vis-à-vis Nigerian Peace Corps Bill is in the hands of God not in the hands of individuals or groups.
It is however regrettable that individuals who are telling people that they have taken over the leadership of both the Board and the National Executive Council of National Youth Council of Nigeria can conspire against the Peace Corps of Nigeria, being an affiliate of National Youth Council of Nigeria or any other Youth organization, affiliated or not.
It is a clear indication that the intention(s) of those ganging up is beyond the interest of the generality of the Nigeria youths.
In a nation where strict adherence to the Rule of Law is observed, government institutions and individuals ought not to go against Court Orders/Judgments.
However, there is a substantive Order by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that Sukubo Sara-Igbe should stop parading himself as President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria and status-quo should be maintained in the council of Nigeria leadership.”
The PRO noted that the beauty of democracy was expression, if people have the power to protest, Peace Corps also have the power to make its position known via any medium.
” Having been duly informed with the fact of this matter, the leadership of the National Assembly, including the Clerk has been properly notified of the planned protest with attached evidence for their information and necessary action.
The National Assembly as a symbol of democracy in Nigeria will always preserve democratic tenets. If they hear from any protesting group, they would also give fair hearing to those been protested against, and then the truth shall be unveiled.”

#EndSARS: How Gowon looted ‘half’ of Nigeria’s central bank – UK Lawmaker
Post #EndSARS: How Gowon looted ‘half’ of Nigeria’s central bank – UK Lawmaker
The UK Parliament held a session on corruption and gross human rights abuses in Nigeria on Monday.
A member of the United Kingdom Parliament on Monday said former Nigerian leader Yakubu Gowon fleeced the country for half of what its central bank was worth before relocating to London.
Tom Tugendhat, chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee representing Tonbridge and Malling, said it was time to start sanctioning those responsible for Nigeria’s endemic theft and poverty.
“It is a tragedy that we are all witnessing. The pressure this time is not foreign colonialism, the pressure instead is corruption, violence and attempts to control.
“We need to call out corruption. We need to use powers we have in this country to stop those who are profiting.
“Some people would remember when General Gowon left Nigeria with half of the central bank, or so it was said, and moved to London,” Mr. Tugendhat said on the floor of the parliament Monday.
Mr. Gowon could not be reached for comments on Tuesday morning by the Gazette as his telephone number failed to connect after repeated attempts.
Mr. Tugendhat said UK “banks, sadly, have been used” to proceeds of ill-gotten loot of Nigerian politicians, saying it was time to begin targeted sanctions.
“The UK is in an almost unique position to actually do something against those who have robbed Nigeria,” Mr. Tugendhat said.
UK parliamentarians debated a petition on Monday over the brutal crackdown of Nigerian Army on #EndSARS protesters.
The lawmakers agreed that members of President Muhammadu Buhari and the military should be targeted for economic deprivation and also prevented from entering the UK.
The Buhari administration has insisted it committed no wrongdoing in its handling of the protesters, while the military said its response to the protests followed the constitution and extant rules of engagement.

#EndSARS: CNN Release Fresh Report On #LekkiTollGate Shooting Amid Sanction Threat From FG (Video)
Post #EndSARS: CNN Release Fresh Report On #LekkiTollGate Shooting Amid Sanction Threat From FG (Video)
Cable News Network (CNN) has released another report on the onslaught of peaceful #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos.
In its first report, CNN had in its investigative report alleged that it “uncovered that Nigerian security forces opened fire on unarmed protesters” at the Lekki Tollgate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
Petitioning CNN for the “immediate and exhaustive investigation into its report on the Lekki Toll Gate incident to determine its authenticity and conformity to basic standards of journalism,” Lai Mohammed, the Minister of information, noted that the TV station failed to show a balanced reportage but rather relied “heavily on manipulated social media videos.”
Thus, the Nigerian government may sanction the network.
However, in what appeared to be a daring move to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, CNN published a second report of the incident with more damning footage showing Nigerian soldiers shooting at the unarmed protesters.
While the fresh report showed protesters running as soldiers openned fire at the tollgate, the CNN report also revealed how the Commander, 81 Division, Brig. Gen Ahmed Taiwo admitted before the judicial panel in Lagos that his men indeed took live ammunition to the tollgate.
The CNN report, amongst other things, also highlighted the fact that Brig. Gen Taiwo’s claim is at variance with the Mohammed’s who had claimed that the army fired blank bullets.

US election: Trouble in Trump’s camp as legal team disagree
Post US election: Trouble in Trump’s camp as legal team disagree
President Donald Trump’s legal team has distanced themselves from conservative lawyer, Sidney Powell.
Powell, a lawyer recently recommended by Trump himself, may no longer be part of the team after she made multiple incorrect statements about the election voting process.
Powell had extended her conspiracy theories and vowed to “blow up” Georgia with a “biblical” lawsuit.
In a tweet last week, Trump had said that Powell was part of a team of “wonderful lawyers and representatives” spearheaded by Giuliani.
But a statement by Giuliani and Jenna Ellis, Trump’s frontline lawyers, said on Sunday that, “Sidney Powell is practising law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity.”
The statement may indicate trouble in Trump’s legal camp as they have lost multiple cases in efforts to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the November 3 presidential election.

Again, PeaceCorps Bill passes second reading in Senate
Post Again, PeaceCorps Bill passes second reading in Senate
The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, 15th December, 2020 passed for a second reading, the Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps.
The Bill, which was read the first time in the 9th Senate on Tuesday, 17th December, 2019 is being sponsored by former Senate Leader and Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume.
Leading the debate on Tuesday, Senator Ndume reminded the President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan how the Bill was introduced and passed in the 8th Senate when he (Lawan) was the Senate leader.
“The Bill went through all legislative processes, including Public Hearing and was overwhelmingly passed. The Bill also passed through all the same necessary legislative crucibles in the House of Representatives and eventually passed”, Ndume narrated. He explained the core mandate of the Corps which seeks “to develop, empower, and provide gainful employment for the youth to facilitate peace, volunteerism, community services, neighbourhood watch, nation-building and for other related matters”.Sen. Ali Ndume
Ndume added that, the Bill would “give statutory backing to the existing Peace Corps of Nigeria, which currently has over 187,000 members, comprising of regular staff and volunteers with well-structured network of branches in 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory”.
He stressed that, the Peace Corps of Nigeria, which came into existence in 1998, is an incorporated body by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). “Based on its laudable achievements over the years, the Peace Corps was accorded Federal Government recognition, through the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.Peace Corps of Nigeria
On the international scene, the Corps was equally granted a Special Consultative Status by the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)”, Ndume added. He urged his colleagues to support the Bill, saying, “the Nigerian Peace Corps, when established, beside engaging millions of our unemployed youths on permanent basis, has the capacity of complementing the functions of conventional security agencies in the areas of developing its members as supporting agents of social order by providing a second-line of public safety”.
Senator Ndume explained that the issues raised by President Muhammad Buhari as reason for withholding assent to the Bill in the 8th Senate had already been addressed in the new Bill. The Senate leader, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya, while seconding the Bill, urged his colleagues to give accelerated passage to the Bill, since it had already gone through the rudiments of lawmaking at both chambers in the 8th National Assembly.
The Bill had no objections. President of the Senate, Lawan, who presided over Tuesday’s plenary, therefore, referred the Bill to the Senate Committee on Interior, for further legislative actions.

Meet Onyema Ogbuagu, Nigerian-born Doctor Whose Research Helped Develop Pfizer’s #COVID-19 Vaccine
Post Meet Onyema Ogbuagu, Nigerian-born Doctor Whose Research Helped Develop Pfizer’s #COVID-19 Vaccine
A few weeks ago, the world witnessed what might be the fastest ever produced vaccine after Pfizer announced the production of a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has not only proven to be very effective with a result of above 90%, but it has also shown significant promise in preventing the virus in older people who are more at risk of being significantly affected by the virus.
According to National Geographic, the mumps vaccine is the quickest to have ever been developed. And that took four years, from collecting viral samples to licensing the drug in 1967.
However, in what is a significant breakthrough in the fight against COVID-19, the world has Nigerian-born Doctor, Onyema Ogbuagu, and his associates at Pfizer to thank for it.
The vaccine has been tested on 43,500 people in six countries and no safety concerns have been raised. According to Pfizer, it would be able to supply 50 million doses by the end of 2020, and around 1.3 billion by the end of 2021.
Following the announcement of a breakthrough by Pfizer, Dr Onyema, during an interview with ABC News, reiterated that the pharmaceutical giants followed due process in the development of the vaccine despite the speed at which it was produced. He assured the public that the vaccines were safe for use and would help achieve immunity against the novel coronavirus.
He said, “We are really super excited about the results of the vaccine trial as it was quite unexpected. We expected that the vaccine should at least have more than 50 percent efficacy which is where the FDA set the bar. But it is so heartwarming that the vaccines have been so effective. It’s great because having the vaccine would help us achieve immunity. If we have enough people who receive the vaccine and are protected against the virus, this could be the beginning of the end of the pandemic. Preparations are made both on the government end and the distribution network, including Pfizer who is working to have the vaccine stored at low temperature.”
Dr Onyema added, “While we have been celebrating a lot about having an effective vaccine and frankly we have run out of emojis. A lot of work really needs to be done to reassure the community and I hope I am doing that also which is why I am on the programme. So we are telling the public that even though the vaccines have proceeded at an unprecedented phase, it is being done carefully, thoughtfully and with the right amount of oversight so that vaccines receive emergency use authorization by the FDA and it passes through all the safety check to show that the efficacy numbers are real and that should really assure the public.”

Who is Dr Onyema?
Dr Onyema is the son of the former vice-chancellor of Abia State University, Chibuzo Ogbuagu. His mother, Stella is a professor of sociology. He then travelled back to the United States where he was born to intern at Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Elmhurst), New York.
After starting out as a fellow in the Infectious Diseases field at Yale University School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, Dr Onyema rose to the height of an associate professor of medicine at the Ivy League school. He has worked there for five years focusing on finding a cure for HIV/AIDS.
The Nigerian professor facilitated meaningful educational and research collaborations between faculty and trainees across institutions. As the program director of World Bank and HRSA-funded efforts supporting the Liberia College of Physicians and Surgeons (LCPS)–run Internal medicine residency training program, he oversaw the selection and deployment of faculty to Liberia and he was responsible for educational programs and activities aimed at strengthening the residency training program.
In response to the COVID pandemic, Dr Onyema is the Yale principal investigator on multiple investigational therapeutic and preventative clinical trials for COVID-19 including remdesivir (now FDA approved), leronlimab and remdesivir, and tocilizumab combination therapy as well as the Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine trial.

US election: No evidence of widespread voter fraud yet, says attorney general
Post US election: No evidence of widespread voter fraud yet, says attorney general
U.S. Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday said the Department of Justice had found no evidence of widespread voter fraud that could upturn the Nov. 3 elections.
“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have affected a different outcome in the election,” The Associated Press quoted Barr as saying.
This is contrary to claims by President Donald Trump, who lost to former Vice President Joe Biden, that the election was rigged against him.
His camping organisation is challenging the election results in key battleground states where its lawsuits have largely been unsuccessful.
In early November, the attorney general directed U.S. attorneys across the country to investigate allegations of widespread election irregularities before the results were certified by states.
He said in the AP interview that federal investigators had followed up on complaints, but had not found evidence to back claims of widespread fraud.
This news will certainly draw flaks from Trump, who said on Sunday that the justice department had been “missing in action” on the voter fraud probe.
“You would think if you’re in the FBI or Department of Justice, this is the biggest thing you could be looking at.
“Where are they? I’ve not seen anything. They just keep moving along and they go on to the next president,” the president said on Fox News.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, a star like his dad (Video)
Post Cristiano Ronaldo Jr, a star like his dad (Video)
The Juventus under 9s player already has the same goalscoring rhythm as his dad.
Speaking about Ronaldo is speaking about goals. Whether it is the 1st one, Ronaldo Nazário, or the second one, Cristiano Ronaldo, the lives of both of them have always been related to goals.
And the saga seems likek it will continue. The son of the Portuguese, at just 9, is now one of the top goalscorers in the Juventus youth teams.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has now scored 58 goals in 28 matches for Juventus under 9s.. and not only that, but he also sets up goals. He has set up 18 goals this year.
On top of that, the little boy’s game begins to resemble that of his father. So far, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr has much more than the genes of CR7. The media attention is deserved.
