In the balmy heat of the midday sun in Jim’s garden, Paul strumming at his guitar and humming that sweet little Connie Francis number, John contemplates asking. They’ve been chatting idly about using John’s money to fund a hitchhike somewhere, John curled around his guitar with his legs folded underneath him and making quick glances to Paul’s drifting fingers so he can mirror their arrangements.  “I was thinking Madrid.” - What John asks in '61, what John doesn't tell in '63, and what Paul finds out from Hunter Davies in '67.

Why I like this fic:

Because of the dark, eerie atmosphere that captures the early Beatles magic perfectly (when they were Liverpool's beloved secret...), because of the way Ringo's POV is written, and because of the ending. I'd say it's Lynchian, but it's also its own, undefinable, lovely thing. The friendship between George and Ringo feels so real, too. Read it to make sense of this rambling rec. You will not regret it!

Why I like this fic:

This is one of my absolute favorite au fics! There is no band, the year is unknown, but the love between John and Paul is there. Watching it grow is exquisite. The ending has stayed with me through the years and leaves you feeling warm and emotional and happy.

Beatles Rarepair Autumn is go!

@crepesuzette2023 and I floated the idea of a lowkey rarepair fest for September and guess what — it’s nearly September. So, here it is!

As promised: here is the extremely low key Beatles fest that at least two people (me and crepesuzette) definitely wanted!

There are no exchanges and very few rules. The only intention is to encourage a spirit of experimentation for autumn — as the Beatles would have wanted, obviously.
