Black Panther
T’Challa
Powers: Senses and physical attributes have been enhanced to superhuman levels by the heart-shaped herb. Master of armed combat.
His mother died in childbirth and when T'Challa was a teenager his father T'Chaka was murdered by Klaw, a Dutchman seeking to plunder the rare Vibranium metal unique to Wakanda, but T'Challa used Klaw’s own weapon to maim him and drive him off. T'Challa studied in Europe and America, then underwent ritual trials in Wakanda - including defeating his uncle S'yan, the existing Black Panther - to win the heart-shaped herb, enhancing his abilities and linking him spiritually to the Panther God Bast. Now Wakanda’s ruler as the Black Panther, he transformed his country into a high-tech wonderland. When tribal war broke out, T'Challa restored peace by condemning the Jabari tribe, and by picking Dora Milaje (“Adored Ones”) from rival tribes to serve as his personal guard and ceremonial wives-in-training.
He later joined forces with the Fantastic Four, to take on Klaw, and the Avengers, after initially joining to spy on them from the inside. For a while he was married to Ororo Munroe (Storm) from the X-men.

Valkyrie
Brunnhilde
Powers: Possesses all the superhuman attributes of Asgardians including superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, healing, longevity and the allspeak.
When Odin came to destroy Earth as it was tainted by the Serpent’s corruption he realised he needed to give man a paradise and chose Brunnhilde as his Valkyrie to take souls of warriors that perished in battle with honour and bring them to Valhalla. She led the Valkyrior for centuries, appearing over battlefields of mortal worshippers choosing which of the fallen were worthy of Valhalla.
Brunnhilde and her fellow Valkyries continued to gather heroic mortal warriors for Valhalla until roughly a millennium ago, when Odin was forced to cease virtually all intercourse with the Earth in accordance with a pact that he and the leaders of Earth’s other pantheons of gods made with extraterrestrial Celestials. From then onward, the Valkyries could only choose slain heroes from among fallen Asgardian warriors. Brunnhilde was bitter over being barred from choosing warriors on Earth and roamed Asgard in pursuit of something meaningful to do.
She was offered a life of adventure by Amora the Enchantress. For several weeks Brunnhilde accompanied the Enchantress on her conquests. Brunnhilde soon discovered Amora’s inclinations towards immorality and tried to end their partnership. In response, Amora entrapped Brunnhilde within a mystic crystal of souls. With Brunhilde’s body remained in suspended animation, her immortal soul became Amora’s plaything. Over the centuries the Enchantress used Brunhilde’s spiritual essence to give the Valkyrie’s powers to herself or to her pawns. The Enchantress usually used her magic to alter the recipient’s appearance to resemble Brunnhilde herself.
Samantha Parrington was bestowed with Valkyries power in an attempt to get revenge on the Hulk. Then Barbera Norriss was given the power and consciousness of Valkyrie to escape the clutches of Casiolena with the Defenders. Having nowhere else to go on Earth, the Valkyrie remained with the Defenders and became a long standing member of the group.

Ms. Marvel / Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers
Powers:  Flight, enhanced strength, durability and the ability to shoot concussive energy bursts from her hands.
Carol Danvers entered the Air Force upon graduating from high school to pursue her love of aircrafts and her dreams of flying. Carol was a top student at the Air Force Academy and ended up serving with the C.I.A., during which time she met and worked with Colonel Nick Fury.
During the course of a battle, Carol and Mar-vell (the original Captain Marvel) were caught in the explosion of a Kree Psyche-Magneton device. The energy bombardment somehow caused Carol’s genetic structure to be melded with Mar-vell’s. While Mar-vell was apparently unaltered by the event, Carol was now a perfect hybrid of Kree and human genes. In addition, she possessed all of Mar-vell’s Kree knowledge and training. Through this transformation, Ms. Marvel was born.
Carol has fought many villains during her career and also joined the Avengers. She has recently taken up the mantle of Captain Marvel.

Rocket Raccoon
Powers: Enhanced senses and expert marksman and pilot skills.
Hundreds of years ago, humanoids from an unidentified planet sought a world to use as an asylum for their outcast insane members, and settled on a planet located in the Keystone Quadrant. There, the psychiatrists created robots to care for their patients’ particular brands of insanity. For years they studied the functions and dysfunctions of the mind, writing their observations in the starship Gideon’s logbook until their funding was cut off and they were ordered back to their homeworld. As they left, they erected a forcefield-generating Galacian Wall around the star system to keep their uncured patients safe from the normal society that loathed them.
For generations the robots faithfully watched over their charges, whose children were born insane themselves, or affected by their insane environment. The Loonies, as they came to be known, created a religion worshiping the ancient Shrinks as gods, with straight-jacketed priests called the Good Humor Men venerating the logbook as their Bible, housing it in the Admissions Ward and performing rites to attain the Final Cure. Gaining sentence (due in part to radiation from a nearby star going nova), the supremely logical robots sought a way out from directly caring for their illogical charges. They played around with the genetics of the various companion animals left by the Shrinks and created a race of animal people to care for the Loonies while the robots retreated to their own side of the planet and began to work on a giant humanoid starship, and started to deduce how to shut down the Wall from the inside. Over time the planet came to be known as Halfworld, divided between the robots’ industrial half, and the verdant half occupied by the others, with the robots building toys designed by the animals to keep the Loonies entertained, and making other machines and weapons for the animals’ use only, and giving many animals requested cybernetic enhancements. Over time the animals created their own advanced society somewhat apart from the Loonies, with the major industry toymaking for the Loonies’ amusements, and the Loonies paying for services rendered with animal cracker currencies.
In later years, the Incredible Hulk (Bruce Banner) was transported to Halfworld via energies released during the destruction of the energy creature Galaxy Master. The Hulk met Quadrant guardian Rocket Raccoon and his partner Wal Rus, who tried unsuccessfully to figure out how the strange green human got through the Galacian Wall. When the head of Inter-Stel Mechanics, Judson Jakes, had the mercenary Black Bunny Brigade steal the Gideon’s Bible and held his ward, the otter Lylla, as a hostage, Rocket enlisted the Hulk’s aid to rescue both the Bible and his girlfriend. They invaded Jake’s orbital Spacewheel spacestation and rescued both the book and Lylla, but not before Jake’s chief scientist/toymaker, the tortoise Uncle Pyko, sent the Hulk back to Earth to prevent the Hulk’s presence from destroying the political status quo among the various Halfworld animal factions.
Rocket eventually left Halfworld and launched an expedition to explore space and its many worlds. Along the way he partnered with Groot and then the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Hulk
Bruce Banner
Powers: In his hulk form he possesses superhuman strength, durability, stamina, healing and resistance to telepathic attacks.
Supervising the trial of an experimental gamma bomb that he designed for the U.S. Defence Department at a nuclear research facility in New Mexico, Bruce selflessly rushed to the rescue of an ignorant teenager who had wandered onto the testing field as the countdown ticked toward zero. After shoving young Rick Jones to safety in a nearby ditch, Bruce was struck full-force by the bomb blast. He survived, but was irradiated by the deadly gamma energy. At first, Banner would transform into the brutish grey Hulk only at sunset, and revert to human form at dawn. Eventually, his changes into the childlike green Hulk came to be triggered by the release of adrenaline when he was intensely excited, no matter what time of day. The green Hulk possesses little of Banner’s memory and intelligence, and is easily enraged; making him a menace to society.
Bruce was initially hunted down by General Thaddeus Ross and the military but eventually found a way to treat his condition with radiation and was able to maintain enough of his own personality when he became to Hulk to control himself.
Hulk then became a pawn of Loki who tricked him into battling his half-brother, Thor. This plot was foiled, leading to Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, and the Wasp joining forces to form the Avengers and defeat Loki. As the groups mistrust in him became apparent, due to being manipulated by the Space Phantom, Hulk to quit. The Avengers began hunting down their unpredictable former ally. Hulk found an ally in the Sub-Mariner, and clashed with the heroes, Thor in particular, but Hulk was defeated and disappeared in the water, later resurfacing in New York seeking revenge.
Over the years Bruce Banner has both helped the Avengers and been hunted by various superhuman/government groups due the unpredictability of the Hulk. At one point the Illuminati decided to hijack a SHIELD space shuttle and send Hulk into space to a planet with no intelligent life forms. After a navigation error though he ended up on Sakaar where he was captured, became a gladiator and overthrew the current regime. He then ruled as king, married Caiera Oldstrong and together they ushered in a new age of peace for Sakaar. When the shuttle that brought Hulk to Sakaar suddenly exploding killing millions, including his wife, he swore revenge upon the Illuminati and returned to Earth.

Nebula
Powers: No powers. Cybernetically enhanced.
Nebula, feared across numerous star systems for her ruthless piracy, set her sights on Sanctuary II, the solar-orbiting satellite built and once used as a base of operations by the Thanos. She had sent a small band of her most trusted aides to Sanctuary II to repair its hyper-drive engines and teleport the station out of the solar system, but the activity coincided with the arrival of the hero Monica Rambeau (as Captain Marvel), who had been sent to investigate the craft by her team the Avengers. Nebula’s minions warped the satellite out of the solar system with Captain Marvel aboard and rendezvoused with Nebula. Nebula hoped to conquer the Skrull empire, at the time in the throes of chaos as their throneworld was destroyed by the planet-destroyer Galactus. Not knowing how to return home, Captain Marvel pretended to go along with Nebula’s scheme but actually helped the Skrulls evacuate the outpost world Nebula was intent on destroying. The Avengers eventually located their missing member and allied themselves with the Skrulls to oppose her.
Sometime after all this, while Firelord and Starfox were searching known space for Nebula, Thanos was reborn. One of his first tasks was to reclaim Sanctuary II. When he found Nebula, she claimed to be his granddaughter. He torched her body and left her on the brink of death, where she hovered until the affair of the Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos left Nebula to roam around his shrine as he battled all manner of beings to keep the Gauntlet. After Thanos defeated Eternity and left his body, Nebula claimed the Gauntlet and fully restored herself to life as she achieved omnipotence. She eventually lost the Gauntlet to Adam Warlock and was placed in the custody of Firelord and Starfox.
Later one of her crew freed Nebula from her cell on Titan, finding her in a catatonic state, and restored her through surgery to her former mental capacity (if not her former looks).

Thor Odinson
Powers: Possesses the conventional attributes of an Asgardian; extremely long life span, super strength, super speed, immunity to diseases, resistance to injury, greater endurance and durability. Due to the Allspeak he can communicate in all the languages of the nine realms. Thor also has the ability of flight and electrokinesis.
The son of Odin (king of Asgard) and Gaea (an Elder God) he was raised on Asgard by Odin and his wife Frigga alongside his adopted brother Loki. Thor grew in power and popularity and on his eighth birthday, Odin had the hammer Mjolnir created for him, enchanting it with powerful magic. Odin decreed that Mjolnir would be presented to Thor when his son had been proven a worthy warrior. After spending the next eight years training and performing heroic deeds, Thor was given the hammer and declared the greatest warrior in Asgard.
While Thor continued to engage in many heroic battles and adventures through the years, he grew headstrong and proud. On one occasion, Thor broke a truce between the Asgardians and their enemies, the brutal Frost Giants, nearly starting a war. To teach his son a lesson in humility, Odin sent Thor to Earth in the mortal body of a crippled medical student, Donald Blake. Stripped of his hammer, his powers and memories of being an Asgardian, Thor, as Blake, graduated medical school with top honours, gained a reputation as a caring family doctor and a brilliant surgeon, and opened a private practice in New York City. He worked beside a caring and skillful nurse, Jane Foster, and the two fell in love. After 10 years on Earth, Blake received a subconscious prodding from Odin to vacation in Norway where alien Kronans were preparing to invade Earth. Fleeing into a cave (which, unbeknownst to him, was also his birthplace) Blake discovered a plain walking cane in a secret chamber. When Blake struck the cane against a boulder, he transformed into Thor while the cane became Mjolnir. Thor fought against the Kronans and their invasion was thwarted. Tapping the ground with Mjolnir, Thor was able to transform back into Don Blake, holding the simple wooden cane once again.
Using his secret identity as Thor to fight crime and defend Earth, he eventually formed the Avengers with Hank Pym, Janet van Dyne, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, facing many foes together as a team through the years.
Recently Thor has become unworthy of wielding Mjolnir and took up his battle axe Jarnbjorn as a substitute.

Black Widow
Natalia ‘Natasha’ Romanova
Powers:  Government treatments have slowed aging, augmented the immune system and enhanced physical durability. Proficient skill in hand to hand combat and espionage.
Orphaned as a child when she was trapped in a burning building during an early attack on Stalingrad by enemy forces, Ivan Petrovitch Bezukhov, a Soviet soldier, found Natasha in the inferno and rescued her. Although Ivan kept a close eye on Natasha as she grew, by the late 1930s she had attracted the attention of Soviet intelligence, which began her training. Following World War II, Natasha was recruited to become part of the Black Widow Program, a team of elite female sleeper agents. Natasha studied as a ballerina to cover for her true occupation. She continued her education with the Red Room Academy, finally being appointed the title of the Black Widow.
The Black Widow was sent on several sabotage missions to the USA where she encountered Iron Man (Tony Stark) and romanced and manipulated Hawkeye (Clint Barton) into helping her with her orders.
After briefly being brainwashed into fighting the Avengers, she returned to Russia and broke all ties with her former superiors. When she returned to the USA, she divided her time between freelance work for Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. and informal assistance on Avengers missions.

Captain America
Steve Rogers
Powers:  Very high levels of agility, strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time.
Steve Rogers was a scrawny fine arts student growing up during the Great Depression. His alcoholic father died when Steve was a child, and his mother passed away from pneumonia after he graduated high school. In early 1940, appalled at Nazi Germany’s horrific atrocities, Steve attempted to enlist in the army. Failing to pass physical requirements, he was invited to volunteer for Operation: Rebirth, a project intended to enhance US soldiers to the height of physical perfection via the inventions and discoveries of Professor Abraham Erskine. Rogers eagerly accepted and became the first test subject. After injections and ingestion of the “Super Soldier Serum,” Rogers was exposed to a controlled burst of “Vita-Rays” that activated and stabilised the chemicals in his system. The process successfully altered his physiology from its frail state to the maximum of human efficiency, including greatly enhanced musculature and reflexes.
Rogers was assigned to serve as a counter-intelligence agent and a symbolic US hero to counter Nazi Germany’s propaganda successes head by the Red Skull (Johann Shmidt). In the closing days of World War II in early 1945, Cap broke through Nazi troops for his final wartime confrontation with the Red Skull, who was seemingly slain by bombing debris (but lived on in suspended animation). Days later, Cap and best friend Bucky Barnes arrived in England too late to prevent brilliant Nazi scientist Baron Zemo from obtaining and launching an experimental drone plane armed explosive device on it. Rogers and Barnes reached the plane, but when Bucky tried to defuse the bomb, it exploded in mid-air. Rogers was hurled into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic.
Years later, a team of super-heroes called the Avengers discovered Rogers’ frozen body in the North Atlantic, where he had been preserved since 1945, and was invited to join the Avengers as their first recruit.

Iron Man
Anthony ‘Tony’ Stark
Powers: No superhuman powers. Weaponry provided through the Iron Man armour.
As a boy, Tony was fascinated with building and controlling machines and by the age of 15 had entered the undergraduate electrical engineering program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and graduated with two master’s degrees by age 19. Tony went to work for Stark Industries, but showed more interest in living a reckless playboy lifestyle than using his engineering skills. At the age of 21, Tony inherited Stark Enterprises when his parents were killed in a car accident.
Tony personally attended a field test of his military hardware at one of his international plants; however, soon after his arrival Stark’s party was attacked by a gang of terrorists. During the skirmish, a land mine went off and lodged a piece of shrapnel near Tony’s heart. Taken back to camp, Tony shared a cell with Professor Ho Yinsen, a world-famous physicist and the two of them were forced to develop advanced weaponry for the terrorist forces. Knowing that he could not live long with the shrapnel so close to his heart, Tony and Yinsen built one of the battlesuits he had been developing, equipped with a magnetic field generator to prevent the shrapnel from reaching his heart and crude magnetic weaponry for defence.
Initially claiming the Iron man armour was his personal body guard, Tony went on to become a founding member of the Avengers and has held many positions within the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. over the years.

Thanos
Powers: Superhuman intelligence, strength, speed, stamina, near invulnerability, immortality, reflexes and abilities of healing and energy manipulation / control.
Born on Titan, Thanos was one of the last sons of A’Lars. Born with purple, hid-like skin and a massive body due to his Deviant Syndrome, his mother was driven mad and tried to kill him upon laying eyes on the baby.
As a teenager, Thanos excelled academically and began to dissect creatures in secret to gain knowledge, whilst also searching for answers to his abnormal genetic make up. Spurred on by a mysterious girl, his search for answers escalated into killing fellow Titanians, the first murders in the history of Titan. After murdering seventeen people he killed his Mother in the hopes of finding the key to who he was.
After leaving Titan he travelled the Universe mating with many partners and leaving them before the child was born. After embracing his murderous nature Thanos returned to Titan. Approached by the mysterious girl who had become a confidante, he tried to court her when she demanded that Thanos prove that he only belonged to her. Embarking on a journey to kill all of his offspring he razed every planet they stumbled upon. Revealing herself to be the physical manifestation of Death, the confidante drove Thanos mad as he gave into Death’s promise of romance. he then destroyed Titan, murdering all survivors, including his father, A’Lars.
In his quest for power Thanos was turned to stone by Warlock. After being resurrected by Death Thanos began a hunt for the Infinity Gems, having gazed into the Infinity well and discovered their true power. He retrieved the green soul gem from the In-Betweener, the red power gem from the Champion, the orange time gem from the Gardener, the purple space gem from the Runner, the yellow reality gem from the Collector and the blue mind gem from the Grandmaster. Putting them all together Thanos created the Infinity Gauntlet granting him mastery over all that is.
To appease Death, Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of the Universe’s population. As many heroes assembled to stop Thanos he overlooked Nebula who was able to wrestled the Infinity Gauntlet off his hand. Her first act was to reverse what had been done and return all of the heroes who had been trapped in the soul gem. The battle resumed until Adam Warlock ended up with the Gauntlet and ended the conflict.

Taskmaster
Powers: No known superhuman powers.  Possesses photographic reflexes though, which enables him to watch another person’s physical movements and duplicate them without practice, no matter how complex.
He discovered his unusual abilities in childhood when, after watching a cowboy television program, he found he could duplicate the rope tricks he had seen the actors perform. Growing to understand his ability, he saw a man perform a difficult backwards leap from a diving board; he duplicated the dive, but nearly drowned because he didn’t know how to swim. Afterwards, his mother called in psychiatrists who studied his ability, terming it “photographic reflexes.” He employed his talent several times during his youth for professional gain, most notably when he became a star quarterback of his high school football team after watching one pro football game. After graduating high school he contemplated becoming a crimefighter, but decided crime would be more lucrative.
He then began a program of observing the fighting techniques of various super heroes and their techniques through archival television news broadcasts to expand his combat repertoire. Initially committing several grand larcenies, he decided it was smarter to avoid risking direct confrontation with law enforcers, and used his stolen capital to establish himself as a combat trainer for aspiring professional criminals, specializing in producing henchmen for super villains and criminal organizations around the world. Designing a costume, he took the moniker “Taskmaster”.
Taskmaster has single-handedly held his own against both Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Iron Man (Tony Stark) in combat; while tempted to test himself against all the Avengers, he realized that he would not be able to run his business from jail and fled after the unfamiliar abilities of obscure robotic Avengers associate Jocasta threw him off balance.

Night Machine
Nikola Tesla
Powers: A quantum power source is inside him which is harnessed through a suit to grant powers of electricity blasts.
A Croatian inventor, Tesla was experimenting with ionising the Earth’s atmosphere when he realised that his scalar technology could produce giant bolts of lightning around the globe.
He later became the adoptive father of Leonid, a recruit of the ancient S.H.I.E.L.D. order. In 1956, Tesla and Leonid infiltrated the Immortal City of the brotherhood of the shield with the intention of tearing the city to the ground. Guiding Leonid to the Iter, Tesla unlocked the door that had stood locked for centuries with a key he had obtained on his travels. Ushering Leonid up the stairs, Tesla turned and battled the city’s guards turning them to ash with blasts from his suit. Going up the stairs Leonid encountered Leonardo da Vinci who flew him over the city on a floating platform, from where they heard the explosion when Tesla was attacked by Howard Stark and Nathaniel Richards.

The daughter of Hank Pym and his first wife Maria Trovaya, Nadia was raised in the Red Room after her mother wad kidnapped and killed on her honeymoon. Nadia began her training in the Red Room, even being trained by the Winter Soldier, and showed great aptitude for science. Her handler, believing this was genetic, informed her of her parentage and encouraged Nadia to emphasise her studies more. With a drive to leave the Red Room Nadia obtained a black market sample of Pym Particles and once mastering them used her new abilities to escape from the Red Room.
Upon her escape she travelled to see her father, ultimately learning of his death shortly before. Nadia then shrunk down and broke into Hank’s lab and used old Ant-Man suit pieces to create a new costume for herself, deciding to become the new Wasp, and vowed to earn the admiration of her fathers allies. After visiting the Avengers and helping them stop the energy blasts that were attacking the Avengers Hangar, she was taken to visit her Step Mother, Janet Van Dyne, by Edwin Jarvis.
Jarvis and Nadia met Janet on Long Island and two neutralised the threat of a Microverse bomb together, saving the President in the process. Janet then agreed to share the name of Wasp with Nadia, as long as she used it for good.
After the second superhuman Civil War, Nadia joined the Avengers. When Mockingbird informed Nadia that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s list of most intelligent humans listed women no higher than 27th she started G.I.R.L., an enterprise to assess Earth’s greatest female scientific minds and convince S.H.I.E.L.D. that their list was outdated.
