“poems & poems & poems & poems & poems & still there is not a way to wrap up this feeling, give it to someone else so that I may be done with it. reader, you can have all these words, all this ache. I’ll call you darling in my dreams if that is what it takes. I am done with always being the poet- when do I get to be the poem?”

“..Aur ab main, main apne aap se darne lagi hoon. Kisi se mohabbat insaan ko bohot kamzor kar deta hai, bohot bebas, majboor. Aur mujhe inn saari cheezon se nafrat hai. Lekin uske bawajood, tum meri zindagi ka markaz bante jaa rahe ho. Tum mujhse poochte ho ki mujhe tumhari kya baat achchhi lagti hai. Main tumse yeh kaise kahoon, ki mujhe tumhari kaunsi baat achchhi nahin lagti? Apne irdh girdh tumhara ghumna. Mere wajood se naa hatne wali, tumhari gehri nazrein. Tumhare har waqt ki tawajjo. Tumhara jaan chhidakne wala har andaaz.. har baar. Jab tum mere maa baap ke liye, ehtraman khade hote ho, toh main tumhare saamne jhukne lagti hoon. Aur kya kuchh nahin? Ek chhote se ghar ke iss pankhe wale kamre mein, tumhari yeh gehri neend. Mineral water bottle ko dhoond ne ke bajay, nalke ka paani peelena. Hand wash chhod ke, ek saste saboon se haath dhona. Apni plate ko, meri maa ke haath ke pake khaane se baar baar bharna. Par main yeh sab tumko kabhi nahin bataungi. Tumhare har wade par hasungi. Tumhari har baat ka mazaak uraungi. Tum mujhe sang-e-marmar samajhte ho, toh samajhte raho. Main tumhare saamne ret ki diwar nahin ban sakti. Mujhe toot jaane se khauf aata hai..”

I wasn’t asked to a single dance in high school and didn’t have a serious romantic relationship until I was 22. And like, yeah that shit hurt when I was younger. I had a lot of fears that I was unlovable and that I didn’t deserve to be happy. And every time I would try to talk to anyone about it, the conversation became, “you’ll find someone”, when it should have been, “you don’t need a relationship or a date, you’re lovable & complete & beautiful on your own”.
So yeah, please normalize young people not dating, and please stop shaming them for it. There’s more to life than romance, despite what the media wants us to think.

Why I loved Premam so much...
Tumblr media
If you know me personally, you know I’m a huge cinema lover, to the point where I over analyze films; and usually the movies I love aren’t your typical Indian movie. Premam is a movie that is really close to my heart for several reasons. *If you haven’t seen the movie stop reading now*
1. It’s a very simple and low budgeted movie. It wasn’t a commercial film at all. You know this by how simple the cinematography is in the film. The director really tried to show the beauty of Aluva as it is.
2. Most of the cast included new actors. They gave so many people an opportunity to be a part of this film. Shabareesh Varma (Shambu) wrote the lyrics for 8 out of the 9 songs. Alphonse Putharen (the director) played the role of Rony, Celine’s fiance, the one character that was most disliked in this film.
3. The 3 heroines in the film were not glamorous actresses. They all have a  natural beauty that attenuated to a diverse crowd of women. Anupama Parameswaran (Mary) has very thick hair and Sai Pallavi (Malar) has very prominent acne and a not-so-feminine voice.  George (Nivin Pauly) defends all these women from his friend Koya (Krishna Shankar) by saying that we all get pimples and reiterating that she is still beautiful even with those “flaws”. Alphonse could have had her voice dubbed but he really wanted this movie to be as natural as possible. How many films have you seen where the actresses are women you would see normally in society? Kudos to Alphonse Putharen for picking actresses that a normal girl can relate to and giving so many girls more confidence about their “flaws”.
4. Alphonse made a great attempt to make the audience feel like they were part of the film; throughout the film I personally felt like I was also one of George’s friends. The joking nature and comedy hit home for me on many levels, I was indeed a backbencher right along with them.
5. Nivin Pauly’s acting was outstanding. His facial expressions were original and natural. As he began the first stages of a simple crush to full-fledged love for Malar, she wasn’t the only one that fell for his young charm. You cannot help but notice the way he smiles when he feels embarrassed, how his heart breaking pulled my heart down along with his multiple times; it was all just too real.  It’s one thing for an actor to give a memorable dialogue, but to convey memorable emotions and body language to the point of chills and tears, that’s where the love for a character is. The film did an excellent job of creating and depthening George’s love life, trials, and tribulations. It wasn’t important to develop the female characters, which in itself gave room for the audience to ponder a little. In terms of the music and composition, we see very little focus on female singers, female thoughts, solely to keep everything revolved around George’s thoughts and feelings.
6. The main reason I loved this movie is because it was relatable to my own life and others when it came to love. High school is when you have your first real infatuation (George likes Mary) but usually that never goes anywhere. Then, in college is when you fall in love (George falls in love with Malar). That usually is the person you think you will spend the rest of you life with. But, like the first sometimes that doesn’t work out. Then, there’s the person you actually end up marrying (Celine- Madonna Sebastian) and all along they were always the perfect one for you even though at one point in your life you didn’t think anyone else could be more perfect than “Malar”. Your “Celine” will come into your life no matter what the situation is. No matter how much you love “Malar” and want her in your life the right “Celine” will alway find you.
7. Some people think that the film was too long and unnecessarily dragged. To those people who believe this, I don’t think you understood the cinema well enough. Everyone can agree that Mary’s story and relationship development with George was short and simple. But, Malar and Celine was a bit longer. Malar’s story being long is understandable. The audience falls in love with her innocent, easygoing, and charming personality. You really hope that her and George end up together and you are sad when Malar has her accident can’t remember George. But then you meet Celine and she is so nice and sweet. You start falling in love with her character as well and you don’t quite forget Malar but she starts seeming like a distant memory. But, at the climax of the film as an audience you are tore apart between Malar (because she was George’s true love) and Celine (who is even more perfect for George- Koya makes that comment since they both had bad spelling/grammar in their letters). As an audience when you realize Malar regained her memory you just want her to tell George but you also know that its a bad idea because his life has moved on with Celine. The end was very bittersweet and cause the audience to feel upset that he is not with Malar but happy that he is with Celine. And maybe that’s exactly what the director wanted to leave this note on; that real life is never just black and white instead there are a lot of uncertainties and bittersweet moments…
