every time I write a drabble it is just basically âstern mortal woman lectures Gilbert for taking terrible care of himselfâ

gilbert + music headcanons
Gilbert can play the piano, the violin, the guitar, and the flute. He rarely plays the flute and never played it until after the death of Frederick the Great; the great king would have never allowed Gilbert to show him up, so he wasnât allowed to play it until much later.
He primarily plays the piano for others, and the guitar for himself. He learned to play the guitar in the 1960s during the Cold War. The Stasi kept confiscating his guitars (heâd purposefully play censored American & English music on it), so he went through about one a year. He now has several acoustic & electric scattered around his properties.
With that in mind - if he plays his guitar for you? Itâs a sign of deep trust.
Gilbertâs favourite song is âAmerican Pieâ by Don McLean, and everybody knows this. He can play it both on the guitar and the piano and sing it in fluent English. He now mostly plays it in the presence of others when he wants people to leave his house, because itâs the fastest way to get people out the door. To him itâs a very personal song; having his own âDay the Music Diedâ in February himself.
Gilbert loves Broadway musicals. He will see as many as he possibly can. His favourite musical of all time is Cats, because of how wild and funky it is, followed by Wicked and Come From Away. He deeply resonates with Grizabella the Glamour Cat and Elphaba.
After Broadway musicals, his second favourite musical performances are ballets, particularly Russian ballets. He has probably taken several at least basic ballet classes to understand the basics.
Yes, he has seen that terrible Frederick the Great Musical. He has extremely mixed feelings about it.

I'm back from Saxony and Berlitz has so many mats in his fur I may have to shave his legs then he'll run away. How have you been and do you have a cigarette?
I am so sorry that you were in Saxony. That is a worse fate than Berlitz and his many mats. [Hands him an entire pack of cigarettes]
I am alive, if you can even believe it. I've been working out east and it's kept me busy. Did Saxony treat you well?

Francis raises his eyebrows as he finishes his cigarette. âNorwegian death metal?â There was deep amusement in his voice. âAnd what makes you think that I would do that?â He taps the ashes into a tray, glancing over at his full glass of wine. Oh well, that will have to go down quicker than expected. âWhy not Don Giovanni with me, darling? Would that not dazzle the people even more?â Regardless, he shifts his phone to the other hand to start finishing that wine.
He pursed his lips. âYou donât have to sing along, but you can be supportive. I can hit those throat noises surprisingly well.â He gave a face when he realised how that might come across. âFine, Iâll cleanse my pallate with Don Giovanni. Either way, the crowd will be starstruck. Iâd prefer to have a few drinks in me before we get to that point, though.â It wasnât as if he haddnât been drinking all afternoon, anyways.

starter for @aux-armes-citoyens
âGet your coat on and meet me outside in five minutes. I have karaoke at a local bar, and I promised a local drag queen weâd just sing Norweigan Death Metal tonight.â He pauses, getting his own coat on. âI think sheâs single, if thatâs what youâre into. I can introduce you two. Iâve never seen her without fishnets on.â He winked. âEither way, you and I are definitely dueting tonight.â

Starter for @ehrendame
Heâs been relegated to hanging out in her office, against either of their wills, because nobody else wnated to deal with him. He hated his compulsory âyou have to be in Bayern because we said soâ days.
âSo what do you think would happen if like, we ate a chunk of radioactive stuff?â He stares at her. Do you think weâd like, explode and then reconform, or do you think our bodies would just forever fight off the radiocativity?â he pauses. âWhat if ita lready is? Sister, what if weâre actively radioactive?â Please give him something to do.

It should be every late December/early January, but I can send you flight details if you prefer
The worst part is moving the dogs, we have to go through all this paperwork for them
You donât need to give me all those specifics. Just general timeframes are fine.
[a long pause]
Iâm very sorry, by the way. That I havenât...been a very good brother to you. Iâm happy for you - that youâve created a family for yourself.

âno, my girlfriend broke up with me and Iâve been comatose with heartbreak. Then my priest kicked me out of mass so I had to ambush him from the bushes near his house and he complained.â Heâs making grabby hands at Gilbert for love and cuddles
âThatâs very sad. Was she human? You should know better - those always end in heartbreak, one way or another.â Gilbert signed and moved closer to hug him, patting his back. âDo I want to know why you were kicked out of mass, and why you ambushed him? Francis, thatâs the kind of thing that I do when Iâm drunk. Thatâs never a good thing.â
He takes a long drag on his cigarette.

Heâs very glad Gilbert has asked. âSince Iâve had a kiss from a pretty ladyâ
Gilbert looked at the camera. He should have known better. Actually, he did. âBeen a while, hm? Are you on some kind of spiritual journey? or are you simply losing your special ability to woo anyone whom you seek?â
He takes a long drag on his cigarette.

A long, dramatic sign.
âToo long...for what?â He was afraid of the answer.

How do you prevent and stop temper tantrums in children?
"Well when I was a kid, the go-to was to just beat the shit out of them, and then I turned out extremely traumatised and emotionally repressed, SO I thought to fix the problem with Ludwig by being overly harsh with discipline which made Ludwig in turn rage a war against all of Europe for fun, SO I think the answer to that is just to be kind and, I don't know, teach them about emotions or something. That's what I try to do with the interns. It's about the same thing."

Imagining teenage Gilbert going to America on 1778 to escape Gay Thoughts only to be invited to one of Baron von Steuben's many MANY extremely homoerotic parties and have his identity crisis get even worse

Trust me, I know how that feels. [That part is mumbled] Well, Iâm glad youâre getting it figured out. Thatâs a weight off my shoulders. Just give me a heads up whenever youâll be...moving around.
I come back frequently enough, I canât work when Iâm ill, after all.
But itâs very unpleasant to be ill in a foreign country

âIf anyone is supposed to embody a party, it is me after all.â He did succeed in having her crack a small grin up at him after it was clear no harm was meant. âIt was peaceful and, if youâd pardon my pun, âmonaconeousâ. All things must come to an end and what better time to emerge than before the holidays? Now, how can I cure that case of ennui?â
He slowly smiles at her, gaze calculating. âI donât think that you would be interested in veing involved in my own cure. That is...well, that is for me to take care of for myself. What is your cure for your own? What ar eyou looking for in this....interesting time?â
"Suddenly things seem a lot more interesting around here." There is a grin in her voice and even a glint in her glasses lenses as she pushes her frames up her nose. CĂ©cile may have been quiet, certainly, but she had never truly left.

Right, right. [He nods seriously] Well, you know that I am always your second in times that you arenât able to be there when itâs urgent. Iâll be spending more time in the homeland, anyways. Just make sure youâre not gone long enough to suffer homesickness.
For now. Matt can stay outside the country longer than I can, but itâs that orâŠ. Well, thereâs no good way to do it. We canât take years away from our homes

Weâll stay at least a year, maybe more. Iâm starting university again, so I might stay in Berlin to work on that
Just a year? [He looks surprised] So is your plan to just jump back and forth between Canada and Germany...indefinitely? [A pause] Well, alright. At least I know.
