Ambrosius' surname is so darn funny, but do y'all think he lowkey hated it as a teen? Partly due to the jokes his classmates would make, but even moreso because that's quite the name to live up to. Not in terms of family legacy, but in the bedroom. 'Cause like, imagine being an insecure teen who hasn't had their sexual debut yet, and the most common pickup line you hear is "does the name fit? 😉" but you don't even KNOW if it does! And what if it doesn't?! What if your first partner is so dissatisfied with your performance that they go around telling EVERYONE how bad it was and you have to live the rest of your life hearing jokes about how your surname is false advertisement. That would be MORTIFYING.
Like, we know Ambrosius is secretly very insecure and vigilant of how he's perceived by others at the time of the movie, but that was definitely WAY worse during his teen years, 'cause that's really when all the insecurities get ya 😭
And then on top of that, the poor guy also has to come to terms with the fact that he's definitely not straight and is falling head over heels for his best friend
My Roman Empire is the fact that Ambrosius is one of the only knights we see who's actually spending the "Monster Attack" trying to help civilians. Most everyone else is busy throwing everything they have at the monster, but Ambrosius? He's out here trying to get everyone to safety. And it's not even to be heroic like Todd's reasoning for charging at the monster. He simply cares about people, and he's honestly not particularly passionate about the idea of killing monsters.
Which is what makes his character so darn interesting to me. He's supposed to be the poster child for monster killing, yet the only time he expresses any interest in killing a "monster" is when he thinks it'll save Bal.
Which also makes it even more obvious that Ambrosius cutting off Ballister's arm wasn't a conscious choice. He's not some trigger happy hero - he's a brain washed soldier who just heard his trigger word (metaphor/word play). The only other times we see him drawing a weapon towards Bal is when he has the weight of expectations from the Institute and kingdom on him.
Deep down Ambrosius never wanted to become a knight, but he already had the path paved for him. Luckily for him, he got to walk that path with Ballister, but once Ballister is removed from the equation? He loses all motivation. Even when Ballister seemingly kills the Queen Ambrosius' only motivation is the pressure of his legacy coupled with his need to keep Bal safe
As soon as tech is advanced enough, imma inject myself with superpowers :]
So, you're telling me that out of 8 billion people, not one of us has superpowers? I think the fuck not. One of y'all is Spider-Man and you're keeping that shit to yourself... and honestly, I don't blame you.
