“No, that’s quite alright.” Dana’s time in England had left her with something of an attitude that was too posh for this area. She had been trying to shake it ever since. “I’ll call him later. But thank you, Donna, for all your help.” She eased back on a red-soled heel, to head to the elevators.
‘ well, we both know i’m not about to go interrupt him while he’s with a client. but if you’d like me to step away from my desk so you can breeze right by and do it yourself, say the word. ’

“Oh, now I’m definitely not asking you, you surfer boy trapped in a lawyer’s body.” Dana can rise to meet his challenge, crossing her arms over her chest, fingers drumming against her biceps. She could ask him, easily, and no doubt Harvey would say yes — it’s nothing bad, nothing that would push his moral bounds.
He simply looks at her with a near deadpanned expression, a single brow raising as if to challenge her into saying it anyway. If he lacked any interest in the question before, there was certainly there now. The thing about Scottie was that– like Harvey– she kept a lot of things close to heart, making sure things were hidden underneath for whatever reason, no matter what they were.
“Are you saying you’ve just wasted your time?” He asks, again challenging, “Because… that would really be a bummer, huh?”

“Yeah, they do, but they don’t impact the surface like the big things.”
“ the little things add up, ya know. ”

“He’d tell me the truth, actually, rather than some sterile public relations tripe.”
Why she’s here, the real reason, is hers and hers alone. She may not even have told Harvey, if he asked, because she wasn’t entirely sure she should be here.
“Unfortunately, I’m not. I have a meeting at my firm.”
‘ you’re damn right about that. but is that really all you need from me? because i know if he knew you were here he’d tell you that himself. ’
still, donna glances at harvey’s schedule on her computer even though she’s got it memorised.
‘ he’s free after this meeting. ’

continued from here.
“I don’t count little things. I count the big things. Meteoric explosion big, things that change the entire landscape of your life.”

Donna’s not stupid, far from it. She’s whip smart and beyond excellent at picking up things others miss. Nothing is lost on Dana; she never really got her answer when she asked Donna that question a while ago. But she knows that Donna and Harvey have something Dana can’t even touch.
“Mess seems like a polite word for it.”
donna’s shoulders lift slightly in a shrug; it’s really not her place to put words into harvey’s mouth, especially with how messed up everything is. and she’s choosing to IGNORE the comment about how things are going with the carefully mending relationship between her and harvey.
‘ well, you know harvey – he’s handling it about as well as you’d expect. it’s kind of a mess. ’

Dana’s quiet for a moment, and then her gaze narrows. Damn him.
“Well, that might be true, but now I really don’t want to ask, so.”

Which is exactly the look I was talking about.
Let me guess: you want to ask something of me but you don’t want to be forward about it, so to cover it up, you’re being as neutral as possible.

“Huh. I heard otherwise.”
Dana is, as ever, cool and calm, and she lets her tone do the talking for her. Shifting her jacket around her shoulders, she doesn’t say anything about the nickname — something once only Harvey called her; shouted across a wintry campus during college, or in a cramped dorm room when he couldn’t find his sweatshirt.
“I wanted to see how he was doing during this whole..” She didn’t want to say anymore than she had to; she was hoping Donna would understand. “..thing.”
‘ you’ve been out of the loop, so i’m NOT going to give you my trademark eyebrow raise. harvey and i are like THIS. ’
she pinches her fingers together.
‘ what can i do for you, scottie? ’

That look’s got me a little concerned.
