Sanditon Cottage is a Regency cottage in the Windenburg countryside. Set at the end of a country road and bordering picturesque Lake Windenburg, this rural idyll is perfect for society Sims looking for somewhere to retreat to after the hectic whirl of a busy Season, to soothe overwrought nerves or escape from any scandals that might have befallen them.

I imagine this as a country second home, as I can’t see a well-off Regency family having a house this small as their primary residence. A lot of buildings referred to by wealthy people as ‘cottages’ are about five times as big as this one. I only just got it down to the largest tiny home size through creative alcove usage (it’s exactly 100 tiles).

There are a few items that are anachronistic for the Regency period: a radiator on the landing which you can easily delete, the sink and bathtub (although not the toilet! Flushing toilets were invented in 1596), the fridge and arguably the lights. I didn’t feel like any of the candle lighting options fit this build, so I’m going to say that the lights I used have candles under the shades. You could also play this as a Regency-built cottage in a later time period.

Some recommended CC if you want to make it more historically accurate for Regency gameplay: this basin by @peebsplays​, this ‘fridge’ by plasticbox, and this bathtub by @pandorasimbox​.

*I realised after I had already uploaded this that the toilet didn’t work for some stupid reason. The Gallery wasn’t cooperating to let me re-upload it but all you have to do is move the toilet forward a tiny bit using the Alt key and it works just fine.

Shibden College for Women

Shibden College is a women’s college at the University of Britechester. Established in 1869 by Lady Beatrix Villareal of Windenburg, the college has a prestigious academic reputation and boasts a library and historic dining hall, partially converted into a canteen serving hot and cold food. Most of the rooms are doubles, but less sociable students may opt for one of the single suites.

While everyone is very focused on tiny homes right now, I’ve become obsessed with a different kind of tiny home. I’ve always loved miniatures, and I just about lost my mind recently when I discovered the Thorne Miniature Rooms. They’re a collection of beautiful miniature rooms displaying European and American interior design styles, ranging from the 13th century to the 1940s (when they were made). 

As soon as I saw them, I knew they would be perfect as building inspiration. I built a room inspired by this 18th century bedroom. I say ‘inspired by’ because I wanted to prioritise making my build look nice on its own, rather than sticking as closely as possible to the original. Some things just don’t translate perfectly to the Sims! 

What I ended up with doesn’t look that much like the original, but I think it’s a pretty room anyway. The rooms also have a missing fourth wall, so I got to make up what went on that side of the room.

I would love it if other people wanted to try building something inspired by one of these! You can find beautiful high-res pictures of 68 of the rooms here. Some of them would definitely be more of a challenge than others (WHY CAN’T WE DECORATE CEILINGS, EA). If you decide to do something like this, tag me or tag the post  #thorne miniature challenge!

I just added your Simberly Park to my neighborhood and got to take a proper look inside. I love it so much! The little classroom in the kids bedroom, I died! Thank you for sharing it.

Aaaah I’m so glad you like it! The nursery is one of my favourite rooms, despite what a struggle it was finding toys. If you move a household in I’d absolutely love to see them 💗

Simberley Park is a beautiful Regency mansion for a wealthy family. Fully equipped with a whole floor of servants’ quarters and two discreet servants’ staircases so servants can access any floor of the house without disturbing family members by their presence.

Whew. I think this is the first time I’ve actually finished a build of this size. 

My favourite part of this build by far to make was the servants’ staircases, which let me have a lot of fun with the new(ish) stair modulation tool. It took a lot of wrangling, and several rooms had to be relocated entirely, but I managed to make it so that you can get from any floor in the house to any other floor (including the cellar) without leaving the servants’ staircase. I probably spent about as much time making Sims go up and down them in first person mode as I did actually building them.

I did my best to furnish this in as close to a historically accurate Regency style as possible, but there are a few unavoidable exceptions such as the taps (faucets), which weren’t patented until the 1840s. (Yes, this is the sort of thing I look up on Wikipedia while I’m building. Yes, I am fun at parties.) I wanted to make this a CC free build but if you use CC, I encourage you to replace the sinks and/or the bath with, for example, this awesome basin by @peebsplays​ and this bath by @pandorasimbox​. There’s a fridge in the kitchen for gameplay reasons but you can pretend it’s an icebox or replace it with a CC fridge equivalent.

I also had a hell of a time trying to find toys for the nursery, since the ‘Victorian’ doll’s house is a) enormous and b) has a modern swimming pool tacked onto it. (WHY.) I couldn’t even give them a teddy bear, since those weren’t invented until the early 1900s. In the end I went with a puppet theatre. I don’t know if those were a common toy in the early 19th century but I can’t see why they wouldn’t have been and these poor children need something to play with.
