dozens of model numbers are being recalled, and this is only a few of them. for a more complete recall announcement and complete list of recalled coolers, check the CPSC or health canada link.
Name of Product: Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers Hazard: The tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards. Remedy: Replace Recall Date: February 13, 2025 Units: About 1,060,000 (In addition, about 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico)
the problem here is the handle. it was designed in a way that has caused a lot of injuries. all of the reported injuries were in the united states. according to the full recall listing, this recall only affects coolers manufactured before january 2024.
The date of manufacture is imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year of manufacture inside the circle.

here is how to locate the date of manufacture.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled coolers and contact Igloo for a free replacement handle. Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations. Sold At: Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s and other stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, Igloocoolers.com, and other websites from January 2019 through January 2025 for between $80 and $140.
yeah. some people had their fingers amputated. and considering they were able to make better handles, these should have been designed better.
keep as many of your fingers as possible! check your cooler!
for a full list of models being recalled, check out whichever link is most relevant to you!

a phrase that kinda bothers me when talking about women's historical roles in europe is "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear it so often, those exact words in the same order even. and once you learn a little more you realize that the massive gaping hole in that list is fiberwork. im not an expert and have no hard numbers, but i wouldnt be surprised if fiberwork took up nearly as much time as the other three tasks combined, so it's not a trivial omission.
it's not a hot take to say that the mass amnesia about fiberwork is linked to the belittlement of women's work in geneal, but i do think there's a special kind of illusion that is cast by "cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children." you hear that and think "well i cook and clean and take care of children (or i know someone who does) and i have a sense of how much work that is" and you know of course that cooking and cleaning were more laborious before modern technology, but still, you have a ballpark estimate you think, when in fact you are drastically underestimating the work load.
i also think that this just micharacterizes the role of women's work in livelihoods? cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the children are all sisyphean tasks that have to be repeated the next day. these are important, but not the whole picture. when we include all kinds of fiberwork—and other things, such as making candles or soap—women's work looks much more like manufacturing, a sphere we now associate more with men's work. i feel like women's connection to making and craftsmanship is often elided.

The death of a conspicuously humble and compassionate pope at dawn of Easter Monday, after completing his Holy Week duties (prioritizing prisoners and children) and -- one can only presume -- rebuking a member of the church who has been making himself loathed and infamous by violating or ignoring the teachings of the gospels...
It's not the first time in the last few years that I've thought "medieval chroniclers would be going wild over this," but medieval chroniclers would really be going wild over this.

Hey did you know there's a tell all book about the behind the scenes of Meta and the author is forbidden from promoting it?
The good news is however that it's already published and can't be stifled and whoever didn't sign the NDA can promote it as much as they want.

Months after a viral haka was performed in New Zealand parliament, the controversial bill that sparked it has now been defeated. The Treaty Principles bill sought to redefine the which is New Zealand's founding document. The bill was brought by ACT Party leader David Seymour, who believed the current interpretation of the treaty gave more rights to Māori people than non-Māori New Zealanders. After two years of debate and nationwide protest, the bill was voted down by all but one party.
