Something I've started to wonder is if gmmtv prevented people who are open about being in a relationship from being in a branded pair? Take Kapook and Neo for instance. Up until recently, I had just been assuming both didn't want to be in a branded pair. But now that Kapook appears to be starting to get into one with Ciize only a couple months after her breakup with her boyfriend, I wonder if this is something she always wanted to do, but couldn't. The breakup and the new pairing with Ciize could just be a coincidence that they happened one after another, but maybe not. And then there's Neo. Who loves being in BLs but has never been in a branded pair. I just always assumed that was his preference and thought that it was cool that went against the mold like that. But now I do wonder, with the popularity of Only Friends, was it possible that he would have liked to have paired Mark but couldn't because of his open relationship with his girlfriend? And then did that have an impact on the story itself since they are the only couple who didn't end up together?
And I've also started to wonder how much GreatInn's popularity has been dented by the awkward obvious-but-not-open-about-it boyfriend situation Inn is doing. and also if Khaotung used to be seen out and about with his ex girlfriend a couple of years ago, and was known by many thai fans to be dating someone other than First did that put a dent in their popularity as a pairing in those initial stages? Of course, I don't know any objective metrics about GreatInn or Firstkhao's relative popularity; the idea that they are underrated and not super popular domestically is just a general feeling amongst their fandoms.

The journalist as vampire metaphor brainworms are wriggling in SO deep. I’m so obsessed. Daniel was already exploitative ofc and now that it’s been literalized through him subsisting off (marginalized) blood he’s taking stories by force. I just know he’s using that mind reading for evil. They’re doing such exciting stuff with his character.
And I love that he’s clearly not done being the audience stand-in, what with all the painting Louis as a liar. They’re callling out a very specific sect of fans I fear.
Me, excitedly: they’re letting them all be bad people!! 😍
I’m SO excited to delve into the themes of Daniel Being An Asshole. I cannot emphasize how much Daniel being correctly pinned by Armand as essentially exploiting Louis and his story even as Armand is correctly pinned by Daniel as… [gestures vaguely to his whole deal] is integral to my enjoyment of DM, and Daniel as a character. Because he IS a white outsider with relative privilege, and he IS constantly using racially charged language to break through Louis’ narrative and to knock him off guard. As much as he’s doing this for Louis, as much as he gains respect for Claudia and Louis throughout the narrative, he was also a weak human using his STRUCTURAL advantages to try and gain equal footing. And also he’s just lowkey a shitty old white man. The SRK comments towards Armand. Interrupting the prayer. Calling him rent boy. Calling Louis specifically a pimp. ‘Equal in the quiet dark’. The cracks about Claudia and her assault.
Peepaw sucks bad in a VERY specific way that a lot of old white journalists do. And it’s not a huge leap from eating people’s lives to sustain his own assent to eating PEOPLE to sustain his lifestyle. Consider how he published his journalism about the AIDs crisis and then presumably re-closeted and presented himself as straight, allowing his ‘insider’ status to profit him without suffering the consequences.
My favorite line in QotD describes Daniel as a perfect hunter. He and Armand are both the insect that’s eaten a thousand lives.

He looks nice, but when no one's watching him, his glance is even scarier than a ghost's. Really? Then why ask about him? I feel like when he's around, you feel more like a person.
word of honor rewatch (7/36)

in this fantasy world, theres no homophobia or sexism! but the governments are still patriarchal monarchies and everyone still adheres to the standard nuclear family, two things that have absolutely no relation to homophobia and sexism whatsoever

I think everyone saying them cutting the kiss that's in the manga from this episode of 10 things I want to do before I turn 40 is homophobic is jumping the gun. That's something I'll evaluate when I've seen the whole show. It's episode 3. Of a 12 episode show. they are stretching a 7chapter (if I remember correctly?) manga into 12 episodes. It would makes sense that they need to move some stuff around for pacing and tension. I understand not wanting a kiss in ep 3 of 12 cuz ya know tension is good.
I hear the sunspot for instance is a show that is hampered by the homophobia of its creators. The second half they pump the breaks on the central romantic relationship and it makes that part of the show really not work cuz it cuts the momentum and kinda makes no sense. But this change might actually contribute to tension and momentum of the story. It's not something you can judge till you've seen the whole thing.

Sure, a few of the BL actors have been gay for pay, but if you follow the actors' socials, you'll realize how many more of them have to butch it up for their BL roles--call that masc for money.

okay so they aren't going on hello saturday apparently.
The crazy thing about Revenged Love is it has escaped the one drawback of the currently operating CBL loophole. The current loophole that's being used is airing the shows internationally and then relying on chinese people to watch them illegaly. The problem with this is that it's just really hard to get a mass audience for something that is not available on any legal streaming service in a country. Most people in any country don't know how to pirate nor do they really care to. VPNs are not easy things to get to work in China. So the viewing numbers remained small, the shows and the actors didn't get hardly any attention. Like sure they got a loyal cult following, but not a following that puts them on the map in C-Ent. CBLs of the past year or so have stayed low budget and not really made any waves. But Revenged Love is POPULAR. The actors have gained MILLIONS of followers over the past few weeks. There are rumors that they are appearing this week on Hello Saturday. With a few more (officially sanctioned) dramas under their belt, they will have been launched into mainstream traffic star actor success. So now, what downside is there to this loophole? Cuz revenged love just escaped the one downside.

Even though Hira and Kiyoi don't explicitly engage in kink in the show (have yet to read book 2 and 3), there's just something so kinky about their dynamic and definitely gets hints of how sub-y kiyoi is. Like hello the desire to be pampered? The way he opens his mouth and waits for kiyoi to feed him? Then of course the bathtub scene in Eternal where he explicitly asks to be dommed (+ some CNC?). There's more examples I'm sure, but just the way this show is kinda the kinkiest I've seen without explicitly depicting them engaging in it. I'm sure there's a lot more about in the book, but I've only read the first one.
