#PenguinRandomHousePartner I've teamed up with @penguinrandomhouse to showcase Latinx & Hispanic authors for Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month. The best way to learn about someone else's culture is to listen, or rather in this case, read. The Latinx experience is vast and unique to everyone. I cannot speak for other Latinos but I can give you some insight on what I've gone through and what I believe.

The word "Latinx" has been very polarizing, but I don't think it should be. One of my recommendations is "Finding Latinx" : In Search of the Voices Redefining Latino Identity , by Paola Ramos. While I am cis Latino man, I use Latinx as a term of respect and solidarity. I see you and your story is just as valid. Being Latino is not just one thing and Paola covers how “Latinx” has given rise to a sense of collectivity and solidarity among Latinos unseen in this country for decades.

You can also learn about a culture through it's humor. That is why I also recommend God-Level Knowledge Darts: Life Lessons from the Bronx by Desus and Mero. I didn't realize my humor was a little off until I left The Bronx 😂 But that humor was born from the community and culture I grew up with. A humor born from the struggles of marginalized people.

Why do we laugh about certain things? It is a great way to understand where we came from.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month to my Hispanic / Latino/x panas out there. I started Dandy In The Bronx not only as way to show case my love of suits and The Bronx, I also didn’t see a lot people who looked like me doing this “influencer” stuff! Representation matters. Growing up, I never really saw people who looked like me in the media I consumed. I wanted to change this. When I was a teacher, the first school I taught at the majority of my students were black and Latino. They all wore uniforms so I felt that as a Latino male teacher , I should come dressed up as well. Set a good example, you know? I wore two and three piece suits to teach preschool! I knew I was doing something right when one of my students wore a tie clip to school! I’ve since left teaching to grow my brand but I hope I’ve been able to continue to instill that inspiration to more people. My goal? I want YOU to see yourself in my content. No Blazer, No Problem. Today I’m styling a @davidoutwear leather (PU) jacket. This one is known as BONANZA 💥 Honestly, my favorite thing is that this jacket looks like it actually fits me lol I feel that every time I go shopping for a leather jacket it’s either very bulky, long or both. However, this brand does go up to 4XL. This is vegan; Made with Premium Crafted Leather (PU). PU leather is an artificial leather material made with split leather (that’s the fibrous part of the hide left over from making genuine leather) which has been coated with polyurethane (hence the name “PU”). Besides being less expensive, PU leather doesn't absorb water, making it easier to clean and maintain. It also does not dry out, no matter how long it is used. I’m wearing a size small here. WELCOME to Dandy In The Bronx! I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by @oneikatraveller on NEW YORK LIVE about style tips for the more "modest man" 😎. I'm so happy you joined me, so I wanted to share some facts about myself and what you could expect from following Dandy In The Bronx. - Born and raised in The Bronx, NY. Specially, Hunts Point! I went to Cardinal Hayes high school. - I try to showcase the Bronx as much as I can in my content. If you are a small business in the Bronx, feel free to reach out! And yes, I still live in The Bronx. - I used to be a preschool teacher. I got into suits because I wanted to show my students a positive male Latino role model. - I didn't always used to dress this way! Everyone has an origin story… a bedrock account of the transformative events that gives the protagonist purpose. To celebrate the release of #SnakeEyes, the G.I. Joe origin story for the title character starring @HenryGolding, I wanted to share my origin story. Did you know I used to be a preschool teacher? I have my Bachelors in Early Childhood Education and my Masters in Literacy Education. The plan was to be a teacher for life. What got me into menswear were my students. They wore uniforms so I felt I needed to be a good role model for them, especially as a Latino male teacher. The kids don’t see a lot of people that look like them in positions of authority, especially in a suit. I feel that representation matters! I started posting about my looks on social media and people like you started to read and follow me 🤯 One day a brand slid into my DMs and wanted to send me a free tie… I was floored! However, I quickly learned that this wasn’t necessarily a in kind gesture; this was a kind of marketing… influencer marketing. The brand saw I had an audience and by giving me product, I would be giving them a free advertisement. I learned that people get paid for this. It was time to investigate. I put a pause on my teaching career and took some classes in digital marketing to learn more. Fast forward and now you are here. Reading this. Full time. Dandy In The Bronx. When @snakeeyesmovie reached out to me, I was very excited since I grew up with G.I. Joe but the icing on the cake was that Snake Eyes was getting rebooted with Henry Golding as the lead. I love seeing more Asian representation and leads in big budget movies. Snake Eyes is one of the original and most popular members of the G.I. Joe Team! This photo series is inspired by the new Snake Eyes movie and my love for ninjas and anime. Fun fact, in college I actually did some kenjutsu (umbrella term for all schools of Japanese swordsmanship). I have a few Shinai (kendo sticks for you pro-wrestling fans) and bokken (Japanese wooden sword) that I take out to practice with occasionally. Modeling work for @petermanningnyc. While I do wear suits 99% of the time, I do wear… casual clothing… from time to time. For me, the more basic the better. Solid colors, no logos, practical clothing that actually fits. I think I like Henley‘s the best because of the buttons and it makes it feel like I’m wearing a real shirt 😂 In terms of pants, joggers have been a favorite because of the elastic waist and that part at the bottom that’s also tight? This week, I stopped by the Lisa Von Tang Resort 2021 Collection & Film Premiere. It was nice to see familiar faces and catch up. I was actually very excited to go to this one since the team at @lisavontang gifted me this linen mask during the hight of the lockdown. Dandy remembers. Dandy always remembers.
