Episode 4 Release Date + Hiatus Announcement!

Episode 4 of Chapter One is releasing on 26 March at 12 PM EST! This might be my favourite episode yet, because the team did such an incredible job with everything! Thank you all for your continued patience and support.

After the release of Episode 4, I will be taking a long hiatus from Deadication. There is unlikely to be any progress for the next year. I am going to be putting my full focus on a different project (another Fanganronpa, if you’re interested!) for the time being and then return to Deadication.

Mini Progress Update

Here’s a quick update post since it’s been a few months since Episode 2 released. Roughly ten minutes of Episode 3 is done, and about 20-30 minutes is left. However, I can’t work much on Deadication for a while as I have been extremely busy the past few months with personal things, and I will continue to be busy until the end of May. The good news is, I will most likely be able to focus most of my time on Deadication after May, meaning that Episode 4 and so forth can come out pretty quickly after Episode 3 is released (but no promises!).

Update Post + Important Announcement

It says it right there in the picture—the second episode of Chapter One will be released on January 2, 7PM EST. Sorry for the delay, but it’s finally here!

That aside, I have something more upsetting to share. Deadication will end after the completion of Chapter One. This was an incredibly difficult decision to make, but it is unfortunately for the best. I won’t go into much detail as to why because the reasons are personal, but to summarize, my mental health is not good enough to keep working on Deadication.

What does this mean for future episodes? The entirety of Chapter One will still be released as planned. This means that the rest of Daily Life, the investigation, the complete trial and post-trial segments will all be released. Afterwards, Deadication will officially be over. There will be no Chapter Two.

I understand that this news might be sad and shocking for many of you, and I am sorry about this. I will still give it my all for the rest of Chapter One, and so will the rest of our crew!

Thank you for all of the love and support that we’ve received over the past few years because this project wouldn’t have nearly come as far as it did without you all. I hope that you’ll stick around till the end and enjoy what we have in store!

Update post!

This is the first update post since Episode #1 dropped a couple of months ago. Here’s a screenshot from the second episode!

Although it’s taken a while, progress on the second episode of Chapter One is going on slowly but surely. The core editing is already done, and the second episode should be roughly 40 minutes long, just like the first episode. All that’s left is to work on some sound, and then we’re all set!

When is Episode #2 releasing? Hopefully during this December, but unfortunately there are no guarantees. The reason Episode #2 is taking a while in the first place is due to some problems in my personal life. My health isn’t the best, so it takes a lot of effort to find the time and energy to work on Deadication. That being said, I’m trying to finish up this episode whenever I can.

Sorry that it’s taking so long, but thank you for supporting the project!

Chapter One, Episode #1 is premiering right now!

It’s been a long time, but here it finally is.

Chapter One Episode One is releasing this week!

The first episode of Chapter One will release this Friday on 24th July at 8PM EST!

It's taken a long time, but Episode One is finally here! This episode will be approximately forty minutes long. Please note that this release date is only referring to the first episode, and the next episode's release is undecided. Either way, we hope you're excited to watch what we've put together!

Update post!

Good news—as of now, all of the sprites for the first episode of Chapter One (and subsequently majority of the sprites for the entire chapter) are complete. The sketches of these sprites have been provided by @jcrowly as always!

The backgrounds are well underway too. Here’s a snippet of one of our new completed backgrounds in the image with Luna. A huge thank-you to @crinkledeyes, as well as our new background artist @wcender-art for their phenomenal artwork! Those pixel sprites you see in the nameplates were created by Destiny, and a shout-out to Rimu for helping me out in miscellaneous sprite and background work!

Please check out all of these artists, because none of this would have been possible without their hard work and… deadication. (I’m sorry.)

The first episode of Chapter One will be just above 40 minutes. Nearly everything is complete. All that’s left is finishing up a few more backgrounds as well as some sound bytes from the voice actors.

The next update you’ll see from us will be a teaser with the release date. It might be sooner than you think.

Artist Recruitment!

In a previous post we mentioned that backgrounds are our biggest hurdle right now, since up till now only Rai has been drawing backgrounds for Deadication. Having some help with that would speed things up a lot. That being said, we know that not too many people are comfortable drawing backgrounds, so I’ll immediately say that you do not have to sketch any backgrounds. They have already been sketched and lined. Here’s what we’re looking for:

An artist who can do base colours and shading in the style of our current backgrounds (an example is further below).

A good sense of colour choices—although we’ll provide certain colours and explain what we’re looking for, you will have some creative control over the background colours.

Here’s an example of our background style. Note that the style of shading is softer for flat structures, but is more detailed for trees, plants, etc. For other buildings, we often use gradients, and in many cases we overlay textures. So... the main work would be to base colour.

How to Apply

If you’re interested, either DM bazileaf#2234 on Discord or email dangandeadication@gmail.com, making sure to include the following:

At least one example of your artwork involving backgrounds/environments. The background/environment doesn’t have to be the focal part of the piece, but your example needs to show your skill with them. The minimum is one, but feel free to show as many examples as you want.

Links to social media platforms where you post your art.

Non-background Artists?

Currently we are only looking for background artists, because all of the new backgrounds featured in Chapter One will be shown within the first episode. After that, we will hold another recruitment for two specific positions: CG shaders and Closing Argument sketch artists. Details on that will come much, much later. For now, backgrounds are our main focus.

Update post!

It’s been a while (I’ve used this phrase thrice in a row...), but we’re still making progress on Chapter One, and here are some previews! It’ll still be some time before the first part of Chapter One is out, so don’t expect a release date any time soon.

However, what we can say is that the first part alone will be just above 40 minutes long, and majority of the video editing has already been completed. We’re just waiting on a few more sprites and audio clips and finishing up some backgrounds, and then we’re all set! A proper release date will be announced once we have all those assets.

Speaking of backgrounds, that’s our biggest hurdle right now. So far there’s only been one person working on backgrounds this entire time, so we need a bit of help to speed up the background process. There’ll be a proper artist recruitment post after this one, so be sure to check it out if you’re interested!

We’re getting closer and closer to finally releasing Chapter One. Until then, thank you for following and supporting this project!

Are cutscene segments like this hard to make?

The overall process for making these scenes is long, but the more people there are in a scene, the harder it is to make because I have to control the sprites of 16 people. When there’s less people present, it’s a lot easier to edit.

(That being said, I can’t wait for them to die so that my editing process becomes quicker >:D)

Update post!

It’s been a while since we last created an update post here. Here’s just a fraction of the things we’ve been working on! A big thanks to Rimu for helping to paint Naohiko and Hitomi in that graphic, to Destiny for creating everyone’s pixel sprites, and as always jcrowly for providing the sprite sketches.

We’ve got a bit more going on behind the scenes, but that’ll be a surprise for when Chapter One actually rolls around. The progress for that has actually been going smoothly—approximately 25 minutes of video editing has been completed, and that’s just barely half of the length of the first episode alone! Not only that, but the entire trial script has been sent to the voice actors so that progress on the trial can start immediately after Daily/Deadly Life is complete.

So... when is Chapter One coming out, then? We won’t be revealing any dates any time soon, and it’ll be out when it’s ready. As usual, please keep in mind that this is a fan project created by a very, very small group of people who do have to take care of their personal lives first. That being said, 2020 is one of the busiest years for 3/5 of our artists, so it’s pretty hard for us to work on Deadication non-stop. Rest assured that progress is still being made, it just takes a long time.
