The Maltese Falcon (1941). A private detective takes on a case that involves him with three eccentric criminals, a gorgeous liar, and their quest for a priceless statuette.

The 1940s really brought it in terms of noir, crime cinema, and The Maltese Falcon is probably one of the better known representations of this. And worthily so too - it’s smart, dark, with a contorting plot that never feels too laborious. It’s a terrifically enjoyable film, and it’s a bit of a crime it wasn’t nominated for more awards. 8/10.
