Key Learnings from the Lecture Series
The first topic was about The Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer and the resource speaker was Maam Gamaleila Dumancas.
She discusses the intellectual property rights which was mandated by R.A 8293 also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, and Technology Transfer mandated by R.A 10055 known as the technology transfer act of 2009.
I have learned that an Intellectual Property is a creation of the mind, it could be an invention, literary and artistic work, symbol name, image, and design.
Protecting your intellectual property is like owning a piece of land, you can; regulate, valuate, monetuze, transfer, exclude others and take ownership of your property.
Why protect your intellectual property?
-to prevent competitors from copying your trademark, technology, or product
-to avoid wasteful investment in Research & Development and Marketing
- tocreate and enhance corporate identity and increase the company's market value
facilitate negotiations of licensing, franchising or other IP- based agreements
These are the Intellectual Property Rights:
1. Patents
2. Utility Models
3. Industrial Designs
4. Trademarks and Service Marks
5. Copyright and Related Rights
6. Lay-out Designs (Topographies of Integrated Circuits)
7. Geographic Indications
8. Undisclosed Information (Trade Secret)
9. New plant varieties, as provided in Republic Act No. 9168
Miss Alice Caballeda the third resource speaker discusses the Startup Ecosystem.
The speaker discusses the answer to the questions; Why there's a need for ecosystem?
Who are part of the ecosystem?
How can i take advantage of the ecosystem?
To take advantage of the ecosystem we should explore and connect; be informed of the agencies that support startups or entrepreneurship, identify your needs as a startup, connect through incubators and accelerators, join startup competitions and locale events, and support ecosystem initiatives.
I have learned that an ecosystem is an environment where one's role is important in the creation and achievement of something. Examples are plants, animals, and organisms playing their roles, working together to support/form a bubble of life.
A startup ecosystem are the group of people, playing their role, interacting, working together to develop or support startups.
Start up Journey was discussed by the fourth speaker Ms. Doreen Gersava.
Maam introduced a company and the journey of how it started, the virtualahan.
The Virtualahan employs an award-winning impact formula that empowers Persons with Disabilities, solo parents, and other communities to be employment ready. Through its digital skills training program, employment support, and well-being sessions, talents are equipped be competitive online professionals and entrepreneurs.
I have learned through Maam Doreen the importance of creating a startup that will change lives, that will improve the lives of people that is something that we should look for or make.

Blog 2
Facing rejection head-on can not only reshape your outlook on life but also serve as a valuable learning experience. I was able to do an activity on the palaro week at Central Mindanao University as we were tasked to do a rejection therapy video. I asked 6 strangers with a question answerable by no; having to use their phones and asking for a 20 pesos. 4 of them said no for some reasons but 2 said yes to my request. Upon requesting those favors, I explained to them that my intentions were solely for educational purposes and that they didn't need to take it seriously. Upon hearing this, they smiled and said it was okay, which somehow relieved myself and made me feel better from the embarrasment.
We were also tasked to do another interview the Empathy Map which was a part of Market Validation. But before that, we did the Marshmallow Challenge and we were one of the groups who failed with the activity. We were so focus on making our towel tall without considering how heavy the marshmallow might be. It made us realize how team building is very important and to know that the foundation should be strong. It was related to our next activity, the Empathy Map. We need to know what our customers think and feel about our product.
Many customers especially the agriculture students were very intrigued and enthusiast about our product, which is the Aeroponic Tower: Vertical Planting. We interviewed 10 customers in total, I was able to interview 3, within our target market and here's what they've respond to our product:
Upon interviewing they said that our product is very interesting and that they would surely purchase it once it will be available in the market as it has many benefits; they want a hassle-free way to grow fresh vegetables, we’ve heard them say they value sustainability and efficient gardening, that aeroponic towers make urban farming easy and makes them value more about their healthy lifestyle not just as students but also as residents struggling with less resources and a land to grow green goods.

Upon all the activities we've done, I have learned many lessons; The rejection therapy activity teaches valuable life lessons, such as resilience and a growth mindset that it is okay to get rejected because even the most successful businessman in the world were also, not only once, got rejected. Also knowing beforehand how our customers views our product is very important so we'd know what our products' standing would be in the market and also to gauge how viable our product or business idea is.

Blog 1: Vertical Planting: Growing the future
In the beginning of the introduction to GEE16 I have learned the importance of knowing how Entrepreneurial Mind subject can influence each individuals in innovating ideas on how to start a business. It contribute significantly on innovation and seizing opportunities without regards for the resources currently controlled. We were informed by our instructor on this subject that we will be innovating a start-up business and we will get to interview some students at Central Mindanao University to know their point of pain so that we can propose a solution to help them and make a way for us to be able to earn from it.
We were tasked to interview eight (8) students individually to know their problems in staying here at CMU and these are what their problems (point of pain) are:
1. Internet connection is very slow.
2. The hot weather inside the classrooms.
3. Shortage of classrooms.
4. Long distance of market to colleges.
5. Expensive entrance fee at university pool.
6. No access to wifis inside the campus.
7. Less resources for purchasing books.
8. Expensive and stale vegetables at the market.

The first interviewee was Princess Funchica, she struggles with the internet connection in the campus as it affects her daily and academic life. Having a weak internet connection inside the campus can be very frustrating and challenging.

The second interviewee was Janine Sale, she complains the temparature inside the classrooms as it makes here easily get dizzy whenever the temperature rises.

The third interviewee was Kristine Ramo, she said that the shortage of classrooms is one of her struggles because she has to go to other colleges to attend to her class and some classrooms are inappropriate because it doesn't have a blackboard.

The fourth interviewee was Sebastian Butanas, his point of pain was the distance of the market to the colleges. Whenever he wants to eat or buy or have something to print at in the market, he struggles so much because he doesn't much money to pay for the motorcycle rela.

The fifth interviewee was Dashiel Lepez, he said that the entrance fee at the university pool was very expensive at he struggles because he lacks resources.
The sixth interviewee was Kristine Ramo, having no access to wifis inside the campus, she wished to have a free wifi inside their dorm.
The seventh interviewee is Seven Salga, she struggles with purchasing books because some of her instructors mandates them to buy but she doesn't have enough resources to purchase.
The eight interviewee is Eril Abellana, she often craves to vegetables and she loves planting but she doesn't want to buy veggies in the market because aside from the distance to her dorm it is already not fresh and very unpleasant to her liking.

During the team meeting, In attempting to solve the internet connection issue, the option we consider would be purchasing a peso wifi for faster internet connection but it would be very expensive if we provide each colleges a peso wifi and it would be hard and very time consuming to generate an income with that because peso wifi takes months for you to regain your equity, same providing a thrift store which was rejected for having a weak business model and its very common nowadays. In the end we decided to choose the point of pain: expensive and stale vegetables at the market. So we come up with the idea of inventing an aeroponic tower for vertical planting for those who want to plant for less expense and having insufficient land to plant.
Hypothesis: Implementing an aeroponic tower system for growing vegetables will result in faster growth rates, increased yield, and reduced water usage compared to traditional soil-based methods. That is proven by the result of the interview we conducted. The result showed that they will support vertical planting business for the reason that it helps efficient crop growth and saves land space and effort especially since most of our target market are home gardeners and students who lives in a boarding house. This hypothesis suggests that the use of the aeroponic tower system is expected to have certain benefits, such as faster plant growth, higher crop yields, and more efficient water utilization, as compared to conventional soil-based agriculture. This hypothesis can be tested through research and nutrition analysis to gather evidence and draw conclusions.
Throughout the process, I have learned that it is very important to discover the point of pain first in starting a business and also determine if your product would click to your target market. I admit GEE16 is probably one of the hardest minor subjects I have taken but through this, I can enhance my entrepreneurial skills even more especially this subject is very inclined to my course which is Business Administration. I hope I can acquire more knowledge in this subject to foster development as a student entrepreneur, so that I could apply this knowledge effectively in the real world.
