to beret or not to beret
Feeling crazy inspired by my super cutie beret bandit @desthefashioneater ❤️ I took this photo outside of my house, cause you know natural lighting is everything! My ring light held my phone cause it’s the only tripod I have lol and I snapped with a little Bluetooth remote the ring light came with. Out here trying to make it work y’all! This beret is from target and you best believe it still has the tag on it cause I just was NOT sure! —- Never in my life thought I’d look this cute in a beret 😜 —- What’s a look you’ve always wanted to try but just couldn’t bring yourself to try it? 🤔

work with what you have
My husband’s new job requires him to travel a ton. I left earlier this week to visit him in South Carolina. Y’all... there’s literally nothing here. I come from a city where there’s constant movement, people, lights, color. Nothing is slow, everything is fast and there are millions of businesses. South Carolina doesn’t even have a Chase or an Ikea. Also, majority of the people here are pretty conservative and my crop top wearing self got plenty looks. I think it’s safe to assume I felt super out of place and it made me appreciate my city more.
Nikko works in liquidations so he basically has to go around emptying out a ton of out of business stores. At the store he usually has this big ol’ dumpster waiting for him outside, since he has to toss out a ton of stuff. I was walking by the dumpster, which at this point is full of plastic, and I immediately thought, oh shit! Photo shoot! Nikko usually takes my photos but he’s just been so busy with this job that I’m basically a one woman show.
When you’re starting up and don’t really have the funds, you have to do a lot yourself. I don’t have $200 for a photog, $150 for a MUA, $150 for a hairstylist, or hundreds for a stylist. You gotta make it work. There are tons of things we can access for free/cheap. YouTube make-up & hair tutorials, and amazon basics for tripods, Pinterest for outfit inspo, and so many other options. A lot of us already know this information but we lack the patience to learn and the motivation to at least try!
Working with what we have is the best way to start up. When you start at the bottom, the only way to go is up. At the bottom we learn so when situations arise at the top, we always have a way to keep it pushing.

Work with what you have - October 2018
Hi! My name’s Dani and when I sit for long periods of time, my jeans crush my belly and leave marks. This is NORMAL for a large percentage of people and for the longest time I tried to hide it because it was embarrassing. Once I started wearing crop tops I was like ok so how am I gonna hide this? Clearly I can’t. This look that I’m giving myself in the mirror is a look of acceptance of my true self. Marks on my belly, stretch marks on the sides of my belly and my thighs, a big ass spider vein on the front of my left leg, dark armpits, and so many other ‘imperfections’ that make me a REAL person. Imperfections do not equal less than y’all. What we call imperfections, are actually pieces of who we are and the story that our body tells. We should all work on embracing them a little more, they work hard to make us unique 💖

in the nude
This is something I’ve never been embarrassed of or shy of. I really have no issue with being naked, tastefully posing naked, or changing in front of others. I know that’s not for everyone, and I do what I can to respect others of course. I recently posted a picture however on my Instagram and I was surprised at the results. My caption read:
“ What if I told y’all I wasn’t meant to be here? My mom was 14 hours in labor with me, to then have an emergency c-section cause I 💩’d inside her, to then realize I had the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck TWICE. To be grateful for this life, is an understatement. Then, 19 years after that I was given the honor of creating my own human. Our bodies are magical ✨ My body held and made a whole human for 40 weeks. Tyler is my heart and soul. Our bodies are actual walking miracles! They heal themselves, the create, build, work harder than anything else. To not love or accept your body for what it is, is to completely disregard all of the choices, epidemics, and shifts that had to happen in order for you to be here at the very moment looking exactly like what you look like.“
Whenever I do anything, it’s never with the thought of, “Wow I’m gorg and everyone should see me.” I’m not trying to shove me down anyone’s throat BUT I will always try to shove light and positive messages. I don’t just do shit to do shit. I posted that photo in hopes that someone out there can see we only have one life, we have to accept who we are and thrive off of that. I wasn’t supposed to be alive but I AM. I’m not sorry for who I am nor who I’ve become. I had a lot of love on this photo and really beautiful comments from great friends. I also had a lot of other people that I know, not like the photo, and unfollow me. I’m actually 100% okay with that. I actually prefer it. I know an equal amount of conservatives/liberals and I know I’m never going to make everyone happy. That’s not why I’m here either nor why I do what I do.

the mujerista
Coming back from NYFW, I sat down with my girl Mari from The Mujerista to answer a few questions about the industry and it’s coming changes, also to discuss the representations of latino’s within the industry.

agency casting calls
I went to a Casting this morning, and I wasn’t as freaking out as I was with Chromat. I actually didn’t put as much pressure on this one as I did with Chromat. So anyway, I get up early, get dressed, wash my hair, put on very minimal make-up and leave. When I say minimal, I mean minimal. A small size of Drunk Elephant’s Umbra Tinte Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30, a dab of Glossier’s cloud paint in the shade husk, a swipe of Benefit Cosmetic’s Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter, brushed my eyebrows and left! Got there early for being a Miami native actually.
Tumblr media
I walked into the Mondrian Hotel feeling super confused cause I thought their office was in a separate building. Walked upstairs as they were just putting the sign out and they lead me to the waiting room doors. Walked into a beautiful room with a ton of beautiful looking people. Swapped my Converse Chuck Taylor low top sneakers for my Steve Madden chunky heel Carrson Sandals and waited speaking a bit to the people around me. The same sign lady from earlier walked in, introduced herself, and she started saying:
“In efforts to not waste anyone’s time, and since we already know what we’re looking for, if I give you a business card please walk out onto the balcony and we will take your digitals. If I don’t give you a card, we thank you for coming out and appreciate your time.”
So she approached the first row, out of the 4 rows on our side, and gave everyone a business card. Then the second, third, and fourth, my row, not so much. We were dismissed and so was a lot of the other group. They kept maybe 7 women in total out of the 24 people there.
That was probably one of the most efficient and considerate casting I’ve ever been to. A yes or no on the spot, no patiently waiting by the phone for days to hear back. I know I didn’t get the opportunity but I was still happy with the outcome. I met some cool people and again witnessed so many people gassing each other up and calling each other beautiful. I also connected with other models and we all shared contacts in efforts to help one another. Sure, it wasn’t the outcome i was expecting, but I walked out with much more!

A NYFW Street Style Gallery Dedicated to Plus-Size Women
Let’s be honest: the best part of New York Fashion Week is the street style — if you're thin, that is. Historically, street style galleries have focused almost exclusively on thin, straight-size women. For NYFW, InStyle offers a street style gallery dedicated exclusively to plus size people — the ones who struggle to find fashion like the kind they see coming down the runways, but want to express themselves through clothing all the same.
Ya girl comes in at #38! What a freaking honor!!!

NYFW SS19
Jeez where to start. First off, I think it’s safe to say this is a dream. A dream come freaking true. Like yo... from February until right now, I never in my life thought that I’d be in New York in September for NYFW. Just saying it back, I still don’t believe it but it happened.
WOW. What a trip. My friend Kenia and Bex were there with me from Friday the 7th until Sunday the 9th. Kenia and I walked around all of Friday almost as soon as we landed. We dropped our stuff off at the hotel and shot out to soak up the city. Walking around on Friday to the different stores it really made me realize how much I want to be a model and to be known.
Tumblr media
Kate Spade has gorgeous stores y’all. Like for real, it’s just beautiful. The employees are also dressed to the T. There was this one girl we really hit it off with. We spoke to her for a bit, mainly about Kate Spade of course and she gave us each a small perfume sample, and some confetti. The second Kate Spade store we went to was literally 4 floors. WHAT. We stood on the cutest little balcony and as we were leaving we got the cutest free bag! We were clearly in awe of the kindness at there stores cause ya girls had no money to actually buy anything lol they probably knew
Tumblr media
After we went to Gucci and another 4 floors of pure glory. I was able to see the  Gucci belt and the Gucci purse of my dreams at the Gucci store and triple confirmed the cobalt blue velvet one is the one for me. On the 3rd floor they had perfume bottles of their new perfume Bloom, and it reminded me so much of my grandma. If you know me, you know I had a moment.
Tumblr media
Louis Vuitton is as beautiful as I remember it. We first walked over to the perfume area and honestly, high-end perfumes are just the way to go. The last so dang long, it’s worth every penny. Also, we met the greatest dominican and I was like weppaaaaaaaaaaa we out here! (I’m not dominican, but I love when people are real and don’t act all bougie all the time). As we walked around the store, I noticed the texture of my red backpack 🎒 is still being used and that made me really happy.
Tumblr media
Fast forward to Saturday morning, we get all sorts of dolled up (like honestly, look at this picture, who am I?) and heard over to Curvy con. As soon as we get off the car and walk towards the entrance, there’s this awesome looking photographer, which I later found out that she’s Lydia Hudgens, who approaches me and says, “I love your vibe/look! Can I take your picture?” In my mind I’m like yaaaasss this is exactly why I’m here! She asked me for my Instagram handle and what brand I was wearing. Later on I find out she had taken over ASOS US’s Instagram that day and she was shooting for InStyle mag!! Holy shirt balls!
The Curvy Con totally rocked! From the moment we walked in we saw so many awesome brands! The first brand you walked into was an upcoming force y’all! Tamara Malas is NOT playing around. Her styles are so dang cute! You actually wanna wear this stuff y’all I promise. You’re not ready!
Tumblr media
We walked around and saw so many great brands participating. JcPenny, Old Navy, Loft, Eloquii, Carol’s Daughter, Simply Be, Mod Cloth, Celebrity Pink, and many more. Each brand gave out their own free item which was sweet and each rep was so kind and easy to talk to. We walked upstairs and they had 4 different back drops for photo ops which was obviously IG worthy! Dia and Co were also providing guests with 3 free head shots which is really great. So many people have to pay all their coins to get some high quality head shots and they gave it for free and on the spot sent to your email. ⚡️.
Tumblr media
After Curvy Con, we went over to Spring Studios where the main NYFW shows were being held. We walked into the Christian Cowan show and instantly died. We were a few feet away from Lizzo, Drew Elliot & Mickey Boardman from Paper Magazine, Troye Sivan, and Christina Aguilera!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the show I stopped this awesome girl named Brianna and asked her to take a picture with me cause she was actually KILLIN’ IT and livin her best life at NYFW! We then stepped downstairs and got a million Evian water bottles, a complementary papyrus card, and I supported female founders by purchasing a 2 pack key chain from Neely and Chloe. We then spoke to a young lady named Rebecca whom worked for IMG, and I started telling her about Girl Blossom and she gave me her bosses card!! I currently have the senior manager of marketing for IMG in my wallet! WHAT?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then ate phenomenal pizza in Williamsburg, after seeing a good friends mural, D’ana of Covl, whom she collaborated with Trident gum on.
After, we attended the Curvy con after party where I met a few cool ladies! Someone told me that she knew I was an important person she just wasn’t sure if I was a model or influencer or actress, so that was pretty cool. Made me feel special or whatevaaaa. Overall the trip really taught me that I WANT this model life for real and that if i want it to happen, I have to create my own opportunities and MAKE IT HAPPEN.
