âCouldâve fooled me. Suit yourself though, long as ye ainât runninâ away.â Finn wasnât going to argue with Danny. Heâd end up punching him and probably make him cry or some shit then theyâd be right back at the beginning again. âMatured.â Finn repeated the word like it was a foreign concept. He didnât even consider himself all that mature, despite being as serious as a heart attack half of the time. âRight. I can see ye reformed all your ways.â Finn let out a quick laugh. âThat eighties wannabe? Women actually like that kind of thing?â Fucking idiot wasnât even alive in the eighties. Then frowned when he said he didnât want to be home. âAnything to do with that shambling skeleton I saw smokinâ on your stoop the other night?â Heâd figured it was one of Dustyâs weird friends or something, but maybe it was something else.Â
-
âNah, I was only in Denver for like a day before you all showed up. No point running, huh? What if I had been with a girl and you just all busted through the door?â he could laugh about it now but that was definitely a low blow to his ego at the time, even though it should have been touching that Finn and Dusty even noticed he was gone. âI sure have, I will even get you the next round to prove it.â Danny said, straightening his posture into a haughty movement as he grabbed his wallet and used his other hand to flick Finn on the nose. âThereâs like two eighties wannabes, Kas and uh....Jock? Fuck knows, if women wanted to fuck a dude with long hair they could just fuck a woman.â he said grumpily. He supposed there was no point prolonging the inevitable, news would be getting everywhere about Bobby being back. âWish it was one of Dustyâs friends, man. Bobby turned up and because I was busy and Dusty was in a fucking cult or whatever, DJ just let him in. Been there the whole time.âÂ

It was as if they both knew this was a goodbye, making each lingering touch and longing kiss all the more meaningful. Dannyâs hands grazed over every inch of Emiraâs body as if his finger tips could etch the words into her skin, donât let me go, Iâll miss you. In many ways, they were. Each travel of his palms against her frame was deliberate and an attempt to memorize how she felt under them. Despite the farewell floating between them, unacknowledged and ignored, Danny was easily lost into the euphoric hit of his own dose of Emira, his pupils blown in awe and leaving just a brim of blue around the darkened hues. âI donât know why you gotta be so difficult.â Danny laughed but his voice had fallen into a heaviness, his breath sharpening as he felt the warmth of her palm wrap around him. âProbably, but you know I like hearing you say it.â he exhaled. Just from that touch alone, a small groan was elicited in response and he stifled it with a deepening kiss. Craving her, as if all of her would ever be enough, the two fingers teasing against her finally entered, curling while inside and encouraging to hear more of Emiraâs moans. Each steady pump from his fingers, in and out became quicker until he could brush his thumb with a teasing press against her clit all while refusing to release their kiss and eager to feel her moans muffle into his mouth.

Elliot doesnât think Dannyâs pea brain could comprehend that he was currently trying to gaslight in his definition of gaslighting. So he waves a hand at his oldest friend, as though shooing away a fly. âOr maybe theyâd just wanna just be left alone so they donât have to deal with idiots,â he snickers, rolling his eyes at Danny. âThe guy whoâs Ken is like on magazines, dickhead. Youâre not the same,â he shakes his head solemnly, clapping Danny on the shoulder patronizingly. âBut if it makes you feel better. Sure, Danny. You look just like him.â accompanied but dramatic emphasis and air quotes to mock him.Â
âI should thank you for the âââ heâs cackling at how stupid Danny sounds, even as his friend cuts him off because he can make fun of him further. âYouâre a fucking idiot,â Elliot shakes his head dismissively before arching a brow as Danny asserts his own dating app activity. âOh yeah?â Snorting, he takes another swig of his drink and pushes off from the wall. âYouâve got a real winning streak with rich chicks. First you think Aiyla likes you, then whatever the hell Emira is these days, but oh no, youâll definitely get lucky with a DuPont.â Werenât they fucking kajillionaires? âSheâs not that crazy,â Elliot defends without knowing why, before shrugging, âbesides, itâs not even that serious.â Especially not since she wonât fucking text him back, ânot like Iâm trying to marry her or anything.â The thought is almost laughable considering the type of ring Aiyla probably expects would cost more than Elliot makes in a year. And, like he said, heâs not trying to marry her or anything. Just get her to admit she liked him, trailer trash and all.
-
âOh my God, you are twisting my words Elliot.â Danny replied with a defiant passion, hitting one of his hands into the other and then using their praying position to point towards his friend. âI never said I was the same but we fucking look alike! Itâs like...a hint, alright? If I could afford dumb suits and shit, Iâd be him whatever heâs fucking called.â he calmed back down again, trying to resume an aloofness to the whole thing that he obviously didnât embody. âNah-uh, I donât want fucking...pity agreement, Cross.â he then uttered, scowling.
âYeah yeah, laugh it up. I fucking heard it, man.â he waved a dismissive hand to Elliot, turning his back slightly to him to hide his own laughter even though his shoulders were moving. Once again a decorated finger was raised at Elliot by the time Danny swung back around. âItâs like you donât even listen to me. Me and Aiyla kissed whether you wanna accept that or not but I, because Iâm a nice guy, stopped it from being anything else.â he then touched his own chest, truly a signal of his pride and humility. âEm is just Em, leave her out of this.â he waved his hand again, trying to move on so he didnât have to explain that it was something else he fucked up. Not even the first time with Emira either. âUhuh, well you sound like you wanna marry her. Give her some trailer kids, huh?â he teased, following suit by pushing off the wall and finishing his cigarette. âNot serious is just your code for sheâs still hung up on Danny.â he laughed.

They hadnât managed to talk for what felt like weeks because Bobbyâs presence was like a huge, atmospheric black cloud in the house. It was obvious what Danny wanted to say to DJ, but his eyes did all the speaking for him instead. He tried to avoid going home as much as possible since he didnât find ruminating in the similar feeling of his childhood very comforting. âHe here?â Danny whispered lowly when it was DJ who answered the door, his memory was escaping him and this was the third time he forgot his keys. He didnât wait for the answer as he entered, spotting the empty couch and his eyes scanning to the stairs for any movement around above them. The atmosphere Bobby left in his wake was so intense that it felt like he could be anywhere at any moment. âYou need to sit down, I wanna know what the fuck you were thinking.â he whispered again to DJ, despite all signs telling him they were alone. He gestured to the couch and paced near it, darting his vision to the front door a few times.

âI am, thanks for noticing.â Aiyla quipped, angling her head slightly higher because he was taller than her as she was sitting. She looked to the table as he gestured and rolled her eyes to look back at him. Was it just her being hopeful or was this date taking a while to get back to him? âObviously, preoccupied enough to be here talking to me.â she said flatly, gesturing between them. God, he was so annoying. Even more annoying when Elliot not so subtly reminded her that she was waiting for a date, and had been sat there watching him like a strange person. Who even did that? Definitely not her. âYouâre so funny Elliot. A girl can be at a bar for many reasons, not just waiting for a man. Youâre not an important part of why we do things.â she pointed. Which was true in many cases but it didnât exactly apply currently. âI think youâre hoping Iâve been stood up, arenât you?â she glared, just like she was hoping his date didnât return. Aiyla then daintily pointed back towards his table, that was still empty. âThere must be a line.â she mentioned softly, even with a smug grin threatening. There wasnât much she could say to Elliotâs annoyingly quick comeback and she scoffed, trying her best to not sound offended before she laughed. âWell, Iâm happy for you.â she said begrudgingly. âI hope for your sake, sheâs happy with a man who headbutts people he kisses.âÂ
â˘
Elliot bites back a grin at her snappy words. He thinks sheâs easy to annoy which is both entertaining and frustrating depending on the day. Heâs sure he can just be standing there and sheâd find something to pick at. But at the same time, he likes knowing he can get under her skin. âSheâll be back,â he says off-handedly, as if to say that the moment his date walks back through the doors, Aiyla will be a distant memory. If only it were that easy. Sheâs like a virus he canât seem to shake. He rests a hand on the bar now, angling himself so heâs blocking most of her view past him.Â
âYou just donât seem the type to idle, Aiyla,â he canât help the slight twitch of his lips, blue eyes full of smugness as he raises a brow, âOr do you usually sit at bars and send top shelf wine to random couples?â He scans her face before glancing over his shoulder and then back at her. âProbably,â Elliot agrees, resisting the urge to text his date in front of Aiyla as the minutes go by and sheâs still not returned. Because his idea of just passing by her at the bar until his date returned isnât looking so great if heâs caught waiting indefinitely. âAre you?â he laughs, âbecause you look about as happy as a funeral,â Elliot quips before his eyes narrow. âAnd hopefully your date doesnât care that you nearly bite peopleâs tongues clean off.â And yetâŚgiven the chanceâŚElliot canât say he wouldnât kiss her again.Â
-
Fuck yeah, a date with a figure skater. Danny even wore one of his best shirts, the word pussy across his chest with the u made of two fingers in a v and a tongue through it. Nothing was going to stop his excitement, even knowing the high prices at the resort bar didnât sour his mood. The only thing that did manage to stop his high was a text from Lily. âHi, sorry. I think this was a mistake. Youâre DJâs brother?â Fucking DJ. Of course the shortest Anderson had to pick fights with the tallest guy to exist. Why did Lily care though? Fucking bitch. Now he could see why so many people hated her, and maybe she really did bash that other skaterâs knee in. Foul was one way to describe Dannyâs mood as he got to the bar, but it changed into curiousness when he saw Hunter. He nodded a quick greeting but then followed the manâs eyes to Elliot. With fucking Aiyla. Could this night get any worse? Wait were they fighting? Danny was intrigued, leaning on the bar with a little grin to himself. I told you so was definitely on his mind but he wasnât going to interrupt. Wait...was this how they fucking flirted?

Even overshadowed by lust, neither of them could stop dimwitted or off handed comments to one another. Their laughter mixed perfectly with their desire and it had always been that way, naive and idiotic when they were younger, fumbling under bed sheets. Even years later, Dannyâs hands could travel over Emiraâs frame and know exactly when and where to touch her. She could do the same to him, the graze of her teeth at his jaw being a sweet spot that blanked his mind. There were no worries like there were before, it was just honest and raw want and need that controlled him. âWhy do you want me to shut up so bad, thought you wanted to watch a show?â now there was no sincerity in his tone, his voice was low and breathy before his teeth gently pinched around her nipple. His bright eyes locked back to hers as he then grinned around it, enjoying the sound of her reaction far too much.Â
Finally he moved away from her to remove his jeans, letting out a small laugh at her impatience. It felt good to be wanted and if he ever had the ways to word it, heâd know that being wanted by Emira was a different feeling altogether. There wasnât much time to dwell on it as his hands were smoothing over her frame eagerly and needy until his palms pushed against the inside of her thighs so he could settle between them, leaning himself above her just enough to kick his boxers from his legs. The kisses he gave her not only grew quickly, but became feverish as he blindly let his fingers pull the black lace that remained on her to the side. âI like these.â he commented between the kisses, glancing down quickly to the two fingers that circled against her heat, a small smug grin twitching his lips at the pool of excitement he could feel from her. âCome on, just say it. How bad you want me to fuck you.â

Axe retorted with an angry shrug. He didnât think it was any different but he guessed that was because he hadnât been in Dannyâs shoes. Unless they were counting parents. His mom would go missing all the time for no reason. That was another reason this whole situation made him even angrier. Ryan should have known better. That and he left him alone. Itâs not like they had any other family to fall back on. It was just the two of them. Luckily Axe had the club to fall back on if he needed support, which was going to be a long shot for him to admit. âDJ invited him in? He think he changed or somethinâ?â Seemed weird to do after all they been through with him. Mustâve got in his head or something.â That was the only conclusion Axe could think of. Either way it must suck and what he could feel he felt for them.Â
His eyes were still narrowed as Danny took his sweet time getting to the point of his question. âYeah, I guess so -â but Axe went quiet when the other blonde continued. His tongue rolled over his teeth as he fully absorbed the information he was just given. It made a clicking wet sound when he released them. âThat so?â Betrayal was an awful kind of feeling. One that seeped into your core and made you feel like a fool. Axe didnât like being taken for a fool. âThanks for giving me the heads up,â he added in an eerily calm tone. âGuess you never know who you can trust, huh?â Honestly he was debating going straight over to Kasâ right then and having a little heart to heart with his supposed best friend. But, then he thought that might be too easy. When he could just wait for Kas to come to him and ignore him until then. As far as Tovah went, well heâd need to think on that a little bit longer. He stood up and looked over to Danny. His whole body felt like it was on fire and it was slowly getting worse. âYou should get out of here, I got some shit I need to do.â Like head over to the ring and get his name in for a fight before all the slots were taken. He really needed to hit someone.Â
-
âI donât fucking know, none of us have fucking talked much since he started sleeping on the couch. Whole place feels weird.â Danny wiggled his shoulders as if there was the sensation of Bobby breathing down his neck as he talked. Always watching, that was something he almost forgot about, how encompassing the man was at any given time. Even with Danny fleeting between houses and refusing to go home, it was like Bobby could be in the corner whenever he glanced at it. âAll I know is DJ is a dumbass and heâs lucky we havenât been able to talk yet.â Not that Danny would do much other than say exactly the same thing. DJ was a fucking dumbass.
âYeah, I guess. But you were like off, right?â he shrugged, because now he was confused. That was the whole point of being off with someone, so you could fuck around with someone else? Danny wasnât much of a reader into emotions, he couldnât feel the shift in Axe and just figured the other blond was thinking. He scratched the back of his neck, looking at his friend with a fairly blank expression when Axe finally spoke again. âI just sat down?â he gestured with his other hand, and then the one holding his cigarette. But, he sighed, and knew trying to push your luck with Axe never went too well. âAlright, well, fuck me I guess. See you around.â he said lazily, flapping his arms once he was on his feet, before taking a casual stroll to leave Axeâs home.

âUh, I donât know if it was before or during a break but that doesnât count because she was always hung up on that giant hillbilly anyways.â Who she could have probably done way better than but Willow could see the appeal. She didnât want to address that topic any further anyways. Things were never the same between her and Cricket after that. Now it was all just nods and polite hellos before actively avoiding each other. âWhy do people keep mentioning him? Itâs like all you little Southside sluts are jealous of this dude. Maybe I should go see what all the fuss is about.â As if she wasnât a regular at the Broom Closet already. Especially since it was just a couple blocks over. Bowie and River sucked her in with their metaphysical prowess often. Maybe she should start putting rose quartz and tanzanite in Kasâ room or car. âI mean my friend Khalil custom designs deck art so Iâm sure he has a few and I know his roomie Lucky has several. Heâs always in here you had to have met him before.â Dude looked like he was perpetually stoned. It kind of reminded her of one her dads. âAw I would love that and shut up Iâm good with kids. You know Kenzie hangs out with River all the time, if anyone was going to give him a third eye it would be them.â She pointed out, hopping off the counter. âBesides I live a mostly chemical free life. I would probably cleanse his little system and get him loving vegetables.â
-
âRight...â Danny mumbled, officially too high and uncaring to even know who Willow was referring to. âI always thought Cricket and Kas were back and forth for a while, then you kinda...hopped on, and thatâs why Cricket was pissed because heâs an asshole?â Danny shrugged, hating how he sounded like a nattering woman so he raised his hands up. âI donât fucking know, Wills. You clearly got some kinda thing for him. And heâs an asshole so thatâs on you.â as if Danny didnât come with his own warning labels, but he thought they were clear enough for people to notice. âJealous!?â Danny was back in the conversation again, tilting his head at Willow before he laughed. âCome on, man. He literally has longer hair than most girls Iâve slept with. Is that what people like?â Dumb if it was. Everything Willow said about the custom decks sounded expensive and humbled Danny quickly, he just nodded but then looked around to try and fake being busy. âSounds cool.â he replied, knowing he wouldnât afford any of it even if he worked weeks of overtime. âYeah I think I know Lucky, he the L.A dude or whatever?â he shrugged but the idea of asking someone for something free made Danny pull a face. Heâd rather steal than be a charity case. He gave a lopsided grin then, not knowing half the words Willow even said to him. âThat sounds...weird? Cleansing kids. Ainât that what the Pope does?â

Elliot snickers at Dannyâs protest, raising a brow. âGaslighting is a word, dipshit,â heâs trying not to laugh because his best friend is clearly going through it but he canât help it when the other keeps insisting heâs like a fucking Barbie doll. âYou know Ken isnât real, right?â Elliot raises his brow at him. âLike you know heâs a toy, DannyâŚâ Maybe he thinks Ken is some sort of historical figure, but heâs pretty sure the only historical figure Danny might know is Marilyn Monroe. Possibly Pamela Anderson if they count the past thirty years.Â
Elliot waves away the smoke and flips Danny off before rolling his eyes.âYeah, I am actually, no thanks to you.â Because itâs his pictures that people are swiping on. Not Dannyâs. Blowing out a puff of smoke, he casts a glance in Dannyâs direction, adding innocently, âthink Emira is too. Saw her picture the other day.â Heâs known better than to ask about whatever the fuck Dannyâs gotten himself into but if heâs gonna give him a hard time about Aiyla, itâs only fair he return the favor. Elliot intentionally doesnât say whether they matched or not. Or that he did swipe right on her but nothing happened. Heâs momentarily distracted from these thoughts by the arguing couple now passing them, the woman looking like she might explode or cry and honestly, Elliot doesnât envy the man because if being around Aiyla has taught him anything, itâs that women arenât logical. âIf thatâs true, you really think youâd have a better chance than me?â He snorts, watching as the woman stops walking and bursts into tears, screaming even louder at him and something about picking up clothes off the bathroom floor? Yeah. Women make no sense. Like how Aiyla will jump his bones at the most random times and then not answer his texts for days.Â
-
âI never said it wasnât a word,â He did. âI just said it isnât real. Like how can someone make you think something did or didnât happen? If that was real, theyâd be famous on fucking T.V or something.â Danny ranted, before staring at Elliot with a furrowed brow. His head shook a bit, more of an offended movement and mocking his friend than anything else. âUh, yeah. I know heâs not fucking real, asshole. The dude whoâs Ken looks like me and youâre a fucking blind piece of shit. All of you are, for not seeing it.â he was on the verge of losing his cool but quickly settled back down again.
âI know for a fact you wouldnât have posted that photo of you in the hat if it wasnât for me so shut the fuck up. You should thank me for the pussy.â He had no idea how strange that phrase sounded until it was already said, and he held a faded tattooed palm up into Elliotâs face. âI fucking heard it, alright?â he almost yelled, stopping Elliot form getting there first. The mention of Emira being on there made his hand drop, but then in true Danny fashion he shrugged his shoulder. âIâm on there too.â he mumbled petulantly and a little sour. Had she blocked him and thatâs why she wasnât coming up as near her? âI got a date too, only fucking downloaded it the other day. That DuPont girl, who bashed a knee or something.â Danny was up for a challenge most times, as long as he knew heâd win, otherwise heâd call the challenge stupid. Which was exactly why he scoffed in Elliotâs face about Aiyla. âAlready had her on my couch in my t-shirt so Iâm winning. Plus, sheâs bat shit crazy like that bitch.â he gestured to the couple. âSo, if you wanna be that dude then go for it. But you wonât get far.â

âYe look broke as fuck either way,â he shot the defense down. No matter what when it came between choosing who to believe out of Danny and Odessa, he was going to choose Odessa. He would also justify anything Odessa said at that point because sheâd yet to be irrational when it came to business. âAmen.â He agreed and swallowed down the shot. Then again, it depended how much alcohol he had or who he was talking to. There were times he felt like a regular chatter box, but there again he could just be talking a normal amount. Heâd hate to see what it looked like when him and Gabe got together. Or even Hunt after a bottle, if they werenât beating the shit out of each other. âVery funny. How about ye just take care of whatever problemâs come up? As long as it ainât woman problems, Hunt and I will back ye up.âÂ
-
âAh fuck you.â Danny hissed, because he could never keep quick remarks going. Finn, the usually untalkative one seemed to have a few good one liners at the ready which pissed Danny off to no end. At least there were free shots for Danny to drown his misery, and he did two in quick succession, squinting at Finn through the burn. âIâm handling it, the fuck?â Danny said sourly, gesturing to himself. âIâve matured, thanks very much.â he added, because he thought he had. If others didnât see that then, it wasnât his problem, right? âMe and Kenz are...fine. Iâve got no woman problems because Iâm not Kas fucking Morrison.â Said with a bitterness. âJust donât wanna be home, thatâs all. Boring there.â Bobby there, actually.

Multi-colored eyes rolled up to where Danny stood and he took another hit off his dab pen. âAre you takinâ his side right now? Dude could have at least made an attempt to reach me, send me a fuckinâ sign or some shit, fuck man.â Axe clenched his teeth and worked his jaw, exhaling the anger that was boiling up in him. It wasnât Dannyâs fault, he knew that. It was the betrayal he felt. âI thought he was dead,â and the grief for the brother he mourned that was alive the whole damn time. âThey best leave me and my house out of it. I ainât done nothinâ to any of them besides cuss his ex out for banginâ on my door yellinâ for him. Didnât believe me he was gone, I guess.â Fucking too many of them out there. âI just stay away from Jett. Him and Kas can keep fightinâ it out.â Heâd keep watching it though. There was already one giant he had to take on in the fights and he would rather avoid another one. Axe scoffed and shook his head. âPiece of shit, sorry man.â He would offer to trade him, but Ryan was nowhere near as bad as Bobby. âYâall should just take him out, run him out of town like they supposedly did to Ryan. Weâd all back you up.â The Anderson boys might be a pain in the ass now and then but most of Southside would have their back. Axe frowned at the change of subject. âStay away from Tove. Why?â His first thought was Danny was trying to hit it and honestly couldnât be too far off. âAnd itâs the same as itâs been she hates me, then she canât leave me alone, then she hates me again. Depends on the day at this point.â He would rather her just be there with him but she had some stick up her ass about whatever.Â
-Â
âObviously not, but better he had a reason right?â Danny said back with a clueless shrug. âDusty just gets up and goes because he feels like it.â he then laughed and in Dannyâs small brain he figured if Dusty actually had a reason to keep leaving it wouldnât be so bad. âJust when I think Dust has died, he shows up with some new tattoo or some weird story, like nothingâs a big deal.â He supposed it wasnât a big deal if his brother kept coming back, but two years was different. âI hope he stays this time, Ry I mean. Doesnât fuck you around again.â It was probably the most sincere Danny had been for a while. âI wonât say shit if I see the Jones kids at Boots, let you two figure that one out. Youâre brave keeping him here when they find out, though.â he gave Axe a quick slap on the shoulder in support. Danny clicked his tongue, knowing he had thought about doing it to Bobby all over again but life was different now. He had Koda, DJ had the diner and even though Dusty said he didnât care doing life inside, Danny didnât want that to happen either. âWell, if Deej wasnât a dumbass and invited the fucker to our house, we couldâve done something but nobody listens to me. They all think Iâm stupid or something.â he shrugged. He laughed slightly at Axeâs reaction, exhaling some smoke and preparing for wherever the conversation went next, because judging by how protective Axe seemed it probably wasnât going to go well. âRelax, man. I like brunettes.â he said, and apparently Elliot fucking did too but now wasnât the time to get pissed about Aiyla. âSo yâall are like...off, right now? Thank God.â he breathed out a sigh of relief. âWillow got all in her head âcause she saw Tove leave Kasâ trailer and was saying itâs cheating or something.â he had no idea what counted as it. âJust girls being girls, probably wanted to hop on Kas or something. Fuck knows. I stopped listening.â
