Darcy Vane Task 006:

Childhood memory: growing up, Darcy and her parents lived on a small ranch in a small town in Tennessee. Her favorite childhood memory is from when she was 13 and her dad came home with a horse special for her. She named him Amanaki which is Polynesian for ‘hope’ being he was rescued from and abusive home and was a bit skittish at first but with a little time and patience the pair were virtually inseparable. He is now 21 years old and living back home on her parents ranch which she visits as much as she possibly can with her kids and every time she sees him, without fail, he gets excited and starts dancing as he makes his way over to Darcy.

       hearing the blonde’s comment about how many boys she was surrounded by, mary louise couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head in amusement. ❝ sounds to me like you are outnumbered. ❞ she mused playfully. ❝ that’s definitely one of the reasons. it also helps that my fiancée nora is an angel. ❞

“I was very much outnumbered at one point,” Darcy admits, soft laughter falling from her lips. “Butn ow I’ve got Everleigh, my sister-in-law, Talia, and my sister, Athena, now too. Thank god for all of them. Well, if Nora is anything like you then she must be absolutely darling.”

“Oh I take no offence to it. They’d much prefer me dead, but here we are” the warlock taunted, clasping his hands together, before Darcy offered hers. He glanced towards her outstretched hand, before eventually returning the gesture, unable to stop himself from noticing the magic that coursed through the witches veins as he tightened the grip momentarily, before releasing. “The pleasures mine and, I can always pass a message along.”

“Must’ve done something pretty bad to make them want you dead,” Darcy hums softly. Smile remained against her lips as he took her hand, brows furrowing slightly as his grip tightened for a moment before he eventually released it and she pulled it back into herself. “Could you just tell her that Darcy was looking for her if you see her? Let her know it’s about Everleigh?”

“Oh, I do not miss that” Cordelia mused softly “I swear Aria used to grow overnight.” The thought of the party still caused for her blood to run cold, knowing the toll that it had taken on her daughter. “I’m good, things are… good. How are you doing?”

“It’s insane how quickly they grow,” Darcy spoke, amusement evident in her voice as she shook her head. “Half the time I consider giving them coffee, try and stunt their growth. I think we’re alright. I mean it took us some time to kind of- I don’t know come to terms with things again, Dex especially. Having to relive that again really fucked him up, you know?”

       hearing the other’s commentary, mary lou couldn’t help but laugh along with her. ❝ boys are a mess. ❞ she told darcy playfully, shaking her head in amusement. ❝ there’s a reason that my fiancée is a woman. ❞

“Oh don’t I know it,” Darcy quips, soft laugh falling from lightly painted lips. “I’ve got a husband and two sons back home plus my husbands brother. I don’t blame you for swinging for our team. So much less stress to be completely honest.”

The familiar voice caused for a smile to ease against Corey’s lips as she turned to face the other and gestured towards the bags “I could say the same, shopping? in this economy” she teased.

“Yes, well, three growing kids means they’re constantly growing out of their clothes and shoes so here we are,” Darcy muses with a laugh, arms lifting bags slightly before letting them drop back to her sides. “How are you? I feel like I haven’t seen since the party at the compound.”

“Ouch” Cassian taunted, hovering his hand against his chest as he added “i’m sure if I had a heart, that would have hurt it.” His gaze narrowed towards the witch, “Cassian. I’m not particularly well liked, so I won’t take it personally.” With a sigh and a shrug the warlock mused “i’m sure she’s fine. Cordeaux’s usually are.”

“Again sorry, your siblings aren’t exactly the- family stories/history sharing kind,” Darcy spoke apologetically, smile cracking at corners of lips as a soft laugh left her lips. “Oh, yes, I’m sure, a complete stranger only knowing you by the pictures she’s seen from her friend would really break your heart.” Hand was offered to the warlock, soft, almost innocent-like smile following. “Darcy,” she quipped. “Well, if you do see her, will you let her know I was looking for her? It’s kind of important.”

Athena’s jaw tightened as her sister apologized for her demeanor and all she could offer was a shrug in response. She wasn’t sure what she had really expected from their meeting so she wasn’t quite sure why it felt like she had gotten her hopes up only to be struck down. “You think I wouldn’t have come back for you if I could have?” Athena asked honestly, leaning forward on her elbows as they rested against the table. “They knew I would have done anything to protect you. Just like I always did. They told me if I ever so much as called you that they would hurt you and I just… I couldn’t bare the thought of something happening to you because of me.”

“But they hurt me anyways,” Darcy retorted. “You expect me to believe that you were naive enough to think that staying away from me meant that they wouldn’t hurt me? After finding out what they did to you? How they lied about your death?” She wasn’t sure why all of sudden emotions were stirring inside of her, the idea that Athena had just left her there to suffer a fate that could have prevented causing for her heart to clench tightly in within her chest. “Do you know how scared I was,” blonde questioned. “Terrified to step a toe out of line, to show any emotion. I was scared of my own power because if I couldn’t control it, the punishments...” Voice trailed off as the witch shook her head, painful memories brazen in her mind as she attempted to force them down, swallowing thickly as allowed her gaze to settle on her digits in front of her, picking at the material of her jacket. “I’m sorry, I’m just... This is a lot,” Darcy admits softly.

Brow lifted as blonde watched the interaction, soft laugh easing from lips as she gave a shake of her head. “Boys,” Darcy hummed. “Will they ever learn to take a hint? Probably not. Will it ever cease to not be entertaining to watch them get to turned down? Definitely not.”

The DSA were really outdoing themselves with their means of propaganda, which seemed to be covering every single street corner of the city. ‘Yeah, I don’t think so’ Cordelia muttered beneath her breath as she came to a halt ahead of a particularly vicious advertisement. With a quick glance towards her surroundings as an attempt of discretion, the witch rose her hand and with a flick of her wrist, a bolt of electricity hit the billboard and immediately destroyed its message.

“Living life dangerously these days, I see,” Darcy quipped, arms decorated with various shopping bags, brow perked towards the other witch as a playful smile toyed at her lips.

To say that Athena was appalled by Darcy’s reaction would be an understatement. She didn’t expect for them to have a happy reunion by any means. But Darcy seemed more focused on the fact that their parents lied about Athena’s whereabouts and less on the fact that they left their teenaged daughter out on the streets with nothing more than a backpack under the mere worry that she would tarnish their reputation. It felt like the wound in her heart that she had long since sewn up was ripped open and filled with salt. Even though every fiber of her being fought it, the blonde quickly reverted back to her old ways and rebuilt the walls that she and Elijah had been trying to tear down. “Yeah, well I’m sure they’ve lied about a lot of things. Might as well add that one to the list.”

To say her relationship with her parents and coven was strained was a massive understatement. Their ways, she had grown to find, were medieval to say the least and Darcy herself wanted nothing to do with that. Leaving the coven when she had turned out to be the best thing she could have possibly done, picking up hunting jobs here and there and ultimately meeting the man she calls her husband. It didn’t change the fact that she felt completely and utterly betrayed by her parents. She had grieved her sister, cried for her, longed for her knowing she would never get the chance to see Athena, she had watched as her parents themselves grieved her or so she thought. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be so,” Darcy’s words trailed off for a moment, gaze lowering to her hands that were busy picking at the sleeve’s of her sweater. “Cold? I guess? I just... I don’t really do the whole... Emotional thing?” Darcy’s gaze rose to meet her sister’s, silence between them for a moment before her gaze lowered again. “How come you never came back for me,” the blonde questioned, heart skipping a beat in her chest as she bit back the pools that were threatening to flood her eyes. “You knew how they were and you just left me there- just left me with them.”

Athena had her suspicions of how their parents explained her disappearance. But the confirmation that they basically tried to erase her existence was like a knife in her heart all over again. But it explained why her sister had never come looking for her after all of these years. “They wanted me gone that bad I guess.” Athena admitted sadly as her gaze fell to the coffee stirrer she continued to nervously play with. “They didn’t want a daughter who couldn’t control her powers tarnishing their reputation within the coven. So I guess they figured the easiest way was to just…. get rid of me.”

A silence remained over the witch as her gaze stayed trained on Athena, void of emotion as her sister spoke. She had become alarmingly good at masking her emotions from an early age, the only person who ever truly got to see her vulnerable was Dex and even that had taken some time. It was instilled in her from a very young age, emotions made magic uncontrollable and her parents weren’t going to be having any of that. “Makes sense,” Darcy stated, well-versed in just how important their role within the coven had been to them. “They wanted power and respect, I just can’t believe that they would lie about something like this.”

“No, no. Stay.” Talia insisted with a laugh as she finished dicing the onion. “I just wanted to show off my fancy new cooking skills. It will be nice to have someone around that I trust holding a knife though. There was no way I was letting that one help out with chopping the vegetables.” she mentioned, motioning her head toward their oldest son. “The kids taught me all about YouTube today.”

Soft laughter eased from the witch’s lips moving herself into the kitchen as she tied her now vibrantly red hair back into a messy bun, hands settling against her hips as she glanced around the kitchen. “Well it smells amazing so you must be doing something right in here,” Darcy mused, gaze following Talia’s gesture towards her eldest, more laughter rising in the air as she shook her head. “Yeah, probably should’ve warned you about that one. What can I do to help? Oh did they now?”

Dex subconsciously leaned into the attentiveness of Darcy’s touch as she teased her fingers through his hair, reminding him that he desperately needed a haircut but that was beside the point. His digits continued to run back and forth against her thighs, before resting still as he sought comfort from his companion. His wife’s evident amusement caused for Dex’s lips to twitch as a soft sigh eased from his throat and his eyes followed Darcy as she edged herself closer. “Maybe I was just blinded by how badly I wanted kids” he replied softly and by no means meant that negatively. “I don’t wanna let them out of my sight, but they’re just gonna get older and pull away from us and start doing stupid things” he murmured, before rubbing his digits against his temple. “You know, it’s a wonder that me and Ryker made it this far, the amount of stupid she we got up to. I look at our kids and I see Ryker in Matty, me in Alex and Carmen in Eve.” The wolf shook his head, lifting his hand slightly before repositioning it against Darcy’s leg. “I see us in them and I remember how badly the world tried to beat us down and I worry about the same thing happening to our kids. I’m supposed to protect them and it wasn’t the world that put them in danger that day. It was me, Darce. I bring danger to this doorstep every day.” Dex sighed restlessly as his eyes found Darcy’s “Doesn’t matter whether i’m a cop, or a hunter… anything bad that happens to them kids is on me.”

Brows furrowed at the words that slid from her husband’s lips, a momentary moment of insecurity surging through her as he digits ceased their movements at he nape of Dex’s neck as she glanced at him inquisitively. “Do you regret it,” Darcy questioned lightly, not sure she really wanted the answer. “Neither do I but the closer we hold them the stupider shit they’ll do as they get older. Maybe you’re right. Maybe we should move.” Blue hues followed his digits as they rose to rub at his temples, falling quiet as he spoke again before reaching for his hand, soft digits enclosing around his own as she pulled the back of his hand to her lips, a gentle kiss pressed against the skin before placing it against her chest. “Hey, the world is going to beat our kids down,” she promised, attempting to ease his worries as her free hand rose to trail down from his temple, stopping to cup his jaw. “Baby, our kids have ten times better than you three had. Their parents absolutely adore them and would never in a million years let a damn thing hurt them. Are we going to be able to protect them from everything? No. Are we going to try to? Absolutely. Dex, honey, what happened that day was not your fault. You really couldn’t have known that guy was going to run the late and we’re all fine, no more worse for wear. Anything bad that happens to the kids is on both of us. You aren’t the only hunter in this family and while I may not be a cop, I am fighting in a supernatural war, quite literally the main body guard for the one and only living tribrid. I bring just as much as danger to this doorstep as you do but nothing, i repeat, nothing is going to harm our children. Over my dead body.”

Talia found herself in the kitchen preparing dinner when she heard the door open. She wasn’t much of a cook. She had managed to learn how too do the basics and could cook a mean grilled cheese. But after one of the children showed her the beauty of YouTube, she had spent the day watching cooking videos and managed to pick up a few tips and tricks. Turning towards the door, she frowned slightly. “You’re home early. I wanted dinner to be a surprise.”

The smells that filled the air as she stepped into the home pulled a broad smile against her lips, bags dropping onto the dining room table as she moved into the home, kids running to hug her in greeting as Talia’s voice cut through the air and blue hues rose to find her, amusement quickly pulling against her features. “Well hello to you too,” Darcy quipped playfully, glancing over her shoulder at the door a moment and the back at the young woman. “I can leave again if you’d like.”

It took Cassian a moment to bother looking into the direction of the voice before eventually admitting defeat and doing so with a sigh. “I always hated that nickname” he grimaced before looking at Darcy directly with an amused expression "no. I can’t say I have, but unless she has been minorly inconvenienced, i’m sure she’ll appear.”

“Yes well she doesn’t exactly talk about you so I never actually got your name,” Darcy admitted, a sheepish grin pulling to her lips. “And Wes isn’t a really big talker either so... I apologize. That’s what I’m worried about. A lot’s happened and I can’t get a hold of her so now I’m worried she might’ve just disappeared again.”

To say Athena was nervous would be an understatement. Thoughts were racing through her head of every way this meeting could go that she couldn’t keep them all straight. She sat at a cafe table, fiddling with a coffee stirrer before a voice snapped her out of her trance. “Hey. I- uh, wasn’t sure what you wanted or what you drank…. or i would have grabbed you something.”

“Oh no that’s fine I didn’t expect you to,” Darcy offered with a soft laugh as she slid into the seat across from the blonde. “I uhm, I’ll get something in a minute. I just- Have a lot of questions. I thought- My whole life I thought you were dead. That’s what they told me. That’s what everyone told me but you’re very much not dead and I’m just- I don’t understand why...”
