Subjectivity by Dayle Beazley
All beings are products of their environments and circumstances.
‘…An “I” or “me” [the individual; you or I] is always subject to forces and effects both outside of itself (environmental, social cultural, economical, educational, etc.) and within itself’ (Bennett, Andrew & Royle, Nicholas 2016 ‘Me’, in An introduction to literature, criticism and theory, Fifth edition. Pp. 151)
The term ‘subjectivity’ is in fact subjective, in the way that it can be correctly defined by rational thinkers in many different ways due to differing personal beliefs and opinions. Posts that I have shared all define the term slightly differently, while all acknowledging and understanding it’s general meaning.

Essentialism by Dayle Beazley
The belief that some things are essential to one’s being, and that without it, we would not be the same.
‘Among the properties that things have, some are essential; that is, they are those properties that make the thing what it is, and without which it would not be that kind of thing.’  (Lakoff, George, 1987, Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things.)
Gender and sexuality are important factors to one’s identity, with these labels being very essential to who we are. In today’s society, the argument often comes up against transgender and LGBTQ+ people, saying that they cannot identify how they choose and that they have to abide by societies beliefs, completely ignoring how important these factors are to one’s life.

Unconscious by Dayle Beazley
The unconscious mind hides things deep below the surface of our conscious accessibility.
‘An adjective for thought processes not present – or not visible- in the field of consciousness at a given moment in time.’ (Buchanan, Ian, 2010, ‘Unconscious’, Oxford Dictionary of Critical Theory)
Unconscious thoughts lie deep below, often shaping and manipulating our feelings, reactions and thoughts. On the rare occasion where these thoughts resurface, they will often appear in dreams, revealing one’s worries, fears, or desires, as well as through creative pieces (eg. artworks, novels, poems, songs, etc.).

Overdetermination by Dayle Beazley
Where even the smallest, least important things are given the utmost attention and thought, often in attempt to find a deeper meaning.
‘The idea that a single observed effect is determined by multiple causes at once (any one of which alone might be enough to account for the effect)’ (Reviews, CTI 2016 Approaches and Methodologies in the Social Sciences, A Pluralist Perspective )
Though unconscious thoughts can effect our dreams and creative pieces, we often over-determine things as something more. Simple human nature leaves us looking for deeper and more complex answers, when in fact, a feature of a dream may just be residue from the day, a distant memory, or another factor in one’s life.

Sensory Knowledge by Dayle Beazley
youtube
Most pieces of art aim to be aesthetically pleasing, appealing to one’s senses, and allowing their mind to discover more complex and thoughtful ideas.
The five basic senses - sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch- all add to the experience when we encounter art. When we read a novel or a poem, the writer will use descriptive language to appeal to their audience and to their experiences. When a musician - as shown in the video above (Liguori, PJ 2014, soft tones on a stormy evening) - creates a piece of music, they will use various techniques, patterns and paces to create an atmosphere and mood for listeners to enjoy.

Creative Influence by Dayle Beazley
Our lives, thoughts, and ideas are constantly influenced by external forces, which often leads to unique renditions of original pieces of art.
Every piece of art is inspired by something, whether that be a dream, a person or sometimes even other pieces of art. As a writer, I find that music and poetry help inspire me more than anything. A song could set a tone or say a line which allows my mind to create a unique story based from this song. Vincent van Gogh, one of the most famous artists in the world, has had thousands of pieces based from his art and his life- each piece unique and different.

Authenticity by Dayle Beazley
Tumblr media
The act of being authentic involves being your true self despite external factors, as well as expressing yourself, your opinions and your actions as you truly wish to.
“[Being] fully aware of both what [you] are doing and why [you] are doing it.” (Buchanan, Ian, 2010, ‘Authenticity’, Oxford Dictionary of Critical Theory)
Every post on this blog, or on my social media pages are representations of my true thoughts, ideas and opinions. All selected quotes or posts, I agree with. I’m not afraid to show my true opinion on things, and I’m aware of exactly what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. Though this blog has guidelines, I’ve made sure every piece of factual information is also true to my thoughts and opinions.

Creative Identity by Dayle Beazley
One’s creative identity is the declaration of one’s self through their creative pieces.
As an avid reader, I find that an author’s true opinion and message is typically shown through their work more often than through their interviews and social media pages. As a writer, I find that people are more likely to be open to opinion when it’s told through story. I feel that it’s my job to tell a story and make an impact and change, instead of allowing my readers to sit back as silent observers.

Fractured Identity by Dayle Beazley
People are not made up of one single identity, but are made up of several different identities, depending on the situation, environment or people around us.
From birth to death we develop new understandings and meet new people which change the way we think, hence opening our minds to several identities, any one of which we could assume at any time, henceforth leaving us with a fractured identity.
Throughout my blog, the posts I’ve shared differ in genre/type, each being one of that I like but each also differing in relation to the personalities/identities I assume around different people.
