They walk inside different halls, passing some silent and discreet servants bowing in front of the housekeeper. Finally they reach a huge garden full of sunlight, with several fountains and orange trees. A little away from the Palace, a large building decorated with earthenware tiles stands at the very end of the garden. A few windows on the upper floor are visible, closed by opaque mashrabiyas. The housekeeper whispers: "This is the seraglio. This will be now your only house."

A violent rush of coldness hits Beyza, she wakes up suddenly. The morning sun is shining. Someone has thrown a whole bucket of sea water at her. She has a start and gasps, stands up, facing two laughing men that she recognizes from last night, and Eden, who laughs too. Behind them, leaning on one of the ship's masts, Marie, the captain, looks at the scene with an indulgent smile.
Beyza looks at her, shocked, as if she had been betrayed, and runs down the stairs, shy and embarrassed, to hide herself, her wet clothes revealing her body in an inappropriate way. Marie says: "Welcome on board, miss Beyza." Paul, one of the two sailors, the one with the bald head and no teeth, looks at her and asks: "D'you really think the princess'll do the trick, captain?" Marie looks at him for an instant, and nods: "I trust her." She turns her head to look at Eden: "What d'ya think?" Eden smiles: "She's uptight and special, but she's someone good." Marie nods in the direction of the stairs: "See if she needs help."
The second sailor, François, eyes opened wide, points a finger and says: "And who's that now? The Pope?" The three others look in the direction of his gaze. A tall man stands on the dock where the ship is moored. He wears a long black sailor's jacket similar to a cassock. He has very short hair and a long, full beard, making him look like a missionary ready to accomplish his duty: to evangelize a dangerous tribe of misfits and save their souls.
Marie bows ironically in front of him, then turns towards the guys looking eyes wide and speechless at the stranger. With a smile she says: "Guys, this is Pieter, new member of the crew, a valuable and experienced sailor who freely joins our association of gentlemen."
Pieter climbs calmly the rope ladder and leans to jump lightly on the desk of the ship, then walks towards them, like someone who has been part of the crew for years. He nods, looking at Marie: "Captain." He walks one more meter and faces Paul. "I recognize this tattoo. You've been condemned to be a rower on a galley." Paul smiles, showing his gums, and says with a cheerful voice: "Yes I did. We killed all the officers and sailed to hide in the West Indies. We lived in the wild forest of La Dominique island. Half of us died of their wounds or of fevers. I lived there for two years, in the mountains. The Carib Indians hunted us like wild beasts."

Like geishas, I am very discreet, capable of holding any conversation, of putting myself at the service of anyone wishing to employ me. I try to be decorative and sensual, learning to perfect myself in this role. I am passive and devoted according to your desires.
