My First Semester Freshman Year.
As a freshman and this being the end of my first semester I have learned a great deal. These things I have learned will not only help me with the rest of my time here at VCU but with the rest of my life's journey. I have learned valuable things in the classroom but I feel like the lessons that taught me the most were my life lessons.
In school I got to learn a lot of about the body and people in my psychology class. The main thing I got out of the course was forgiveness. My teacher was a little wacko which made the class more interesting but when she was talking about forgiveness you could tell how passionate she was about it. The one thing that you should take out of learning about forgiveness is that in order to forgive you must cast empathy on the person who is being forgiven. It is extremely unhealthy to contain unforgiveness especially for you mind. Having to wake up and be angry everyday and dwell on things that has happened in your past only effects you and not the person who has made you feel these things.
Most of the things that I have learned in my personal life have come from my mistakes. Here are some:
Trying to study for a test only the night before will automatically make your grade at most a 75%.
Not cleaning your room on a regular basis leads to creepy critters.
Leaving your straightener on, on top of the microwave will make a shock.
Irons generally get hot within 2 minutes...so don't touch it.
lastly never leave the house without looking at the weather.. with my luck it always rains when I wear white.
But the one thing that I have learned and will always stay with me is, always stay true to yourself. No matter how hard it is and what is causing you to doubt your decisions, you are the only one who truly understands you. People will always judge you and may not accept the human being that you are but as long as you love and cherish yourself nobody can bring you don't. Being positive will make your days bright and negative thoughts are never welcome. My positive thoughts and actions renew my mind and soul.
Also thank you Mrs. Arrington for such an amazing first of many fashion classes. I am looking forward to my future and all the possibilities this industry will grant me! Have a great break

No safety pins- no buttons- no needle- no threads
In 1904 the T-shirt made its first debut in a magazine ad funded by the Cooper Underwear Company. In the ad you saw a cool sleek man with a handle bar mustache, cigarette in hand repping the new "Bachelor Undershirt". This was a new product introduced specifically for bachelors due to the fact that the had no wife to sew their clothes and they sure as hell didn't know how to sew themselves.
The army was the first to jump the gun...(literally) with t-shirts saying that all men should wear non-button undershirts under their uniforms. And so the t-shirts popularity began.
The garment got its famous name "T-Shirt" by author F.Scott Fitzgerald in his novel "This Side of Paradise". Where his character brings it along to boarding school. He was amused by the t-shirt and its shape.
In 1940's t-shirt really caught on in high schools and teenagers had "closets full" of them. They would customized them to fit their personalities by throwing on patches, fringe, and other fun things.
I thinks our nation would not be the same without the t-shirt. It plays a role in most peoples everyday life. They come fitted, loose, big, small, long sleeved, and in all different colors. People can dress them up with jeans, heels, and a cute clutch or scarf. Or wear a t-shirt with exercise shorts to work out in. T-shirts are universal and I'm sure there isn't a single American that doesn't own one.
I also find it amusing how the t-shirt came around. it is brilliant because it is very true that bachelors had no clue how to sew, so why not invent something that fits their lifestyle. T-shirts are very comfortable and accessible. They play an important role in this world today and I honestly don't know where we would be without them.

Are your kids "Dubble Trubble?"
A new London brand of organic cosmetics just recently entered 1,788 U.S. Target stores. This brands inspiration was ethical beauty and natural ingredients including organic botanical extract. The new Brand "Dubble Trubble" was introduced by David Gavin Jr. who says, “I come from a dynasty of hairdressers, going back four generations, from the days you had to cut hair with a top hat and tails in London." I find this very innovative and an important product in the beauty market for children because organic labels are very high in demand. Also I would say parents would feel comfortable buying this product from someone who has a rather large background with hair cosmetics. Gavin produced his first label in response to the increasing cries for natural and organic children's products. "After doing the research I learned a lot of the synthetics deteriorate a child’s immune system. It’s as important what you put in your body as what you put on your body.”
This line has five two-in-one shampoo and body washes with varying scents of: Bananaberry, Cherrybomb, and Watermelon. Also Cool Cucumber detangling spray is included in the line. The target market ranges from 3-12 years old. Its retail price is $6.99 due to each products gentleness and loaded antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and nutrients. Dubble Trubble will be exclusively sold at Target for its first year in America due to Targets new innovative and exclusive beauty product reputation.
I feel like this brand is going to be an instant hit once presented to the sales floors. Many parents of this generation are all about organics, nutrients, and what is "best" or "healthiest" for their children. So this product seems to fall under all of these categories.
