In the anime, Saien Manabu (Kyouju) appears for the first time before Akira loses to Hiruta, it is up until Takao arrives and challenges Hiruta to a match that Manabu is able to postpone until the next day, is that Manabu introduces himself.

En el anime, Saien Manabu (Kyouju) aparece por primera vez antes de que Akira pierda contra Hiruta, es hasta que Takao llega y reta a Hiruta en un encuentro que Manabu logra posponer para el siguiente día, que Manabu se presenta.

In the anime’s first season, Manabu never mentions his original name and rather he introduces himself as Kyouju, which translates to professor. In the manga however, it is up until RISING that we get to see that when Takao met Manabu at school, thanks to his nerdy fascination with beyblades made him think of a college professor and hence giving Manabu his nickname: Kyouju.

En la primera temporada del anime, Manabu nunca menciona su verdadero nombre y simplemente se presenta como Kyouju, que significa profesor. Sin embargo en el manga, es hasta RISING que se nos muestra cómo Takao conoció a Manabu en la escuela y gracias a su fascinación con los aspectos técnicos del beyblade, Takao dice que parece un profesor de universidad, dandole así su apodo: Kyouju.

Anime goes away from the manga since the start, I have been trying to figure out the best way to compare these differences, but also had some stuff to care about and just moved out, so I had to pause for a while, but now I have more time to continue with this little personal project.

El anime se aleja bastante del manga desde el principio, he estado buscando la mejor manera de mostrar estas diferencias, pero también había tenido que ocuparme de algunas cosas y acabo de mudarme, así que tuve que hacer una pausa, pero ahora tengo un poco más de tiempo para seguir con este pequeño proyecto personal.

While Takao runs from the park to make it on time to his battle against Akira, the neighbor district’s champion, we can see Akira and some kids waiting for Takao. This never happens in the manga, since Akira doesn’t even exist in it. As Akira mentions once Takao gets there they’ll be able to figure out who is the true beyblade champion, we see Hiruta for the first time, calling Akira’s beyblade weak.

Akira then challenges him to a battle after mentioning how confident he is. When Takao arrives, the battle has not only ended, Hiruta has taken everyone’s beyblades and tells his “rules” to Takao, revealing he intends to have all beyblades in the city and that he has most of them already.

In the manga however, the plot for taking everyone’s beyblades is shown on the plot chapter with the unnamed Shell Killer whose appearance was used for Nobuo in the anime. Hiruta’s first appearance is in chapter one, after Ryonnosuke makes Takao train with him and tells Takao he can go if he lands a hit in him. After Takao takes advantage of Ryonnosuke’s distraction after the incident with the flowers, Takao heads to a local tournament; Takao wins block B and will face in the finals the winner of block A, Hiruta.

Mientras Takao corre del parque para llegar a tiempo a su batalla con Akira, el campeón del distrito vecino, vemos a Akira y otros niños esperando por Takao. Esto nunca pasa en el manga, ya que Akira no existe en él. Cuando Akira menciona que en cuanto llegue Takao, podrán decidir quien es el verdadero campeón de beyblade, aparece Hiruta por primera vez, llamando débil al beyblade de Akira.

Es entonces que Akira lo reta a una batalla mencionando lo confiado que es. Cuando Takao llega, la batalla no sólo ha terminado, Hiruta ha tomado los beyblades de todos y le informa sus “reglas” a Takao, revelando que intenta quedarse con los beyblades de toda la ciudad y que ya tiene la mayoría de estos.

Sin embargo en el manga, la trama de robar los beyblades de otros, se muestra con el miembro si nombre de los Shell Killer en el capítulo piloto y cuya apariencia fue usada para Nobuo en el anime. La primera aparición de Hiruta es el el capítulo uno, después de que Ryonnosuke hace que Takao entrene con él y le dice a Takao que lo dejará irse si logra darle un golpe. Después de que Takao toma ventaja de la distracción de Ryonnosuke gracias al incidente con las flores, Takao se dirige a un torneo local de beyblade; Takao gana el bloque B y se enfrentará al ganador del bloque A, Hiruta.

In the anime Takao completely disagrees with Hirutas ways and this ends on him challenging Hiruta to a battle and with a little intervention from Manabu, they set the battle for the next day by the river.

In the manga however, Hiruta was about to step on a kid’s beyblade and Takao lauched himself to save it, making Hiruta fall off, this cause them to start arguing and nearly fighting each other until one of the tournament’s workers tells them to stop and that the final is about to start.

En el anime, Takao está en total desacuerdo con los métodos de Hiruta y termina desafiándolo a una batalla, gracias a la intervención de Manabu, acuerdan que la batalla se lleve a cabo al día siguiente en el río.

Sin embargo en el manga, Hiruta estaba a punto de pisar el beyblade de un niño y Takao se lanza a detenerlo, causando que Hiruta se caiga, esto causa una discusión entre ambos que casi termina en un una pelea hasta que uno de los encargados del torneo les dice que se detengan y que la final está por comenzar.

Also in the manga, Hiruta opens his vest while arguing with Takao revealing himself as a member of the Shell Killer, during the pilot chapter we could see a glimpse of it leader as a shadow and after Hiruta reveals himself as a member of them, we see the face of their leader, who will later be introduced to be Hiwatari Kai.

También en el manga, Hiruta abre su chaleco revelando ser un miembro de los Shell Killer, en el capítulo piloto se muestra un panel con la sombra de su líder y después de que Hiruta revela ser parte del grupo, se muestra el rostro de su líder en un panel, quien más adelante será presentado como Hiwatari Kai.

In the anime, finally Nobuo and Takao’s beybattle unfolds in the park, one of the boys watching them is who gives the beybattles rules and explanation of the game to the other, serving to do the same to the audience.

Takao is confident on his skill and with a single move he takes Nobuo’s beyblade flying off the stadium, Takao catches Nobuo’s beyblade and gives it back to him explaining is not just a game, he shares a bond with his beyblade and practices everyday to get better. After this, we see Takao running late to meet Akira, who is the beyblade champion in the neighbor district (Japan “neighborhoods” are called districts.)

In the manga however, the battle goes completely different, Manabu, who has already been introduced in the manga a few pages back in the same pilot chapter, points out that the Shell Killer’s beyblade (since Nobuo is a name only for the anime) is stable despite Takao’s attacks, while Takao’s beyblade stamina is disappearing rapidly and this ends up in Takao losing not only the battle, but his beyblade as well.

En el anime, finalmente la beybatalla entre Nobuo y Takao comienza, uno de los niños mirando la batalla es quien le da una explicación general del juego y las reglas al otro, sirviendo para hacer lo mismos con la audiencia de la serie.

Takao está seguro de su habilidad y con un solo ataque manda el beyblade de Nobuo volando fuera del estadio, Takao atrapa el beyblade de Nobuo y se lo devuelve explicando que para él no se trata solamente de un juego, él y su beyblade comparten un lazo especial y practican todos los días para ser mejores. Después de esto vemos que a Takao se le hace tarde para encontrarse con Akira, quien es el campeón del distrito vecino. (En Japón, los “vecindarios” son llamados distritos.)

Here we have one of the hugest differences between the manga and the anime. After the battle, Takao chases down the Shell Killer member wanting to beat him down and get revenge for taking his beyblade, but he is stopped by a hooded person who will later be revealed to be “Shippu no Jin”, also known as Kinomiya Hitoshi, Takao’s older brother; who says to him: “Find revenge using your beyblade, not your fists!”

Es aquí que tenemos una de las más grandes diferencias entre el manga y el anime. Después de la batalla, Takao persigue al miembro de los Shell Killer, deseabdo golpearlo para vengarse de que le quitara su beyblade, pero es detenido por una figura encapuchada quien más adelante se revela que se trata de “Shippu no Jin”, también conocido como Kinomiya Hitoshi, el hermano mayor de Takao; quien le dice: “¡Busca venganza usando tu beyblade, no tus puños!”

Also before the battle in the manga, we have a small glimpse into the Shell Killer, including Kai’s silhouette, at the moment of the release of the pilot chapter in Japan, Kai was the antagonist in the GameBoy Color’s video game.

In the anime, Nobuo challenges Takao to a beybattle, this is the moment during the anime where we get introduced to battles and rules, in the manga this introduction happened already in the pilot chapter.

In the manga however, Nobuo is a Shell Killer member and is Takao who challenges him to avenge all the children’s beyblades he has taken, basically Nobuo is taking beyblades the way Hiruta did in the anime.

En el anime, Nobuo reta a Takao a una beybatalla, este es el momento en el anime donde se nos presenta cómo funcionan las beybatallas, en eñ manga ésta presentación ya pasó durante el capítulo piloto.

Sin embargo en el manga, Nobuo es miembro Shell Killer y es Takao quien lo reta para vengar los beyblades que le quitó a los otros niños, básicamente Nobuo le quita sus beyblades a los demás de la misma forma que Hiruta lo hizo en el anime.

In the anime, after Takao escaped from training with his grandfather, he runs into Nobuo and two unnamed boys, shortly after we know that they are friends with Takao after they take him to the park.

While in the manga, Nobuo never mentions his name, he appears as a bully in the park and he appears during the pilot chapter.

En el anime, después de que Takao escapa del entretenimiento con au abuelo, se topa con Nobuo y dos niños cuyos nombres nunca son mencionados, poco después se nos muestra que los tres son amigos de Takao después de que lo llevan al parque.

Mientras en el manga, Nobuo aparece en el capítulo “piloto” del manga y nunca menciona su nombre, aparece como un chico malo que molesta a los demás en el parque.

In the anime, we see Ryonnosuke approaching the family sword after Takao leaves, he briefly mentions that Takao’s dad and brother are always away because of their archeological research and that Takao’s mom passed away (but never says her name), he then smiles as he mentions that despite all that he’s grown into a cheerful boy.

While in the manga, we see Ryonnosuke looking at the sky remembering Yoshie, Takao’s mother, and says as if talking to her, that her younger son has become a healthy and kind boy, but he is a little bit too energetic.

En el anime vemos a Ryonnosuke acercarse a la espada familiar después de que Takao se marcha, brevemente menciona que el papá y hermano mayor de Takao siempre están fuera por sus investigaciones arqueológicas y que la mamá de Takao falleció (pero nunca dice su nombre), después de esto, sonríe y menciona que pese a esto, Takao es un niño energético y alegre.

Mientras en el manga, vemos a Ryonnosuke mirando hacia el cielo recordando a Yoshie, la mamá de Takao, y dice como si hablara con ella que su hijo menor, se ha convertido en un niño bondadoso y saludable, pero que tiene demasiada energía.

In the manga there are some little details we don’t get to see in the anime for these scenes between Takao and Ryonnosuke, one that I consider very important to understand Takao’s character, is that while he and his grandfather are having their kendo practice fight, Takao notices Ryonnosuke is about to step un a flower and stops him from doing so launching his beyblade against Ryonnosuke’s bamboo sword, breaking it, then Takao mentions that he almost stepped on the flowers that were his mom’s favorites.

En el manga hay algunos pequeños detalles que no venos en el anime sobre estas escenas entre Takao y Ryonnosuke, una que considero importante para entender mejor la forma de ser de Takao, es que mientras él y su abuelo tienen su batalla de práctica de kendo, Takao nota que ryonnosuke está apunto de pisar una flor y para evitar que lo haga, lanza su beyblade rompiendo la espada bambú de Ryonnosuke, después de esto, Takao menciona que casi pisaba una de las flores que eran las favoritas de su mamá.

In the anime when Ryonnosuke is giving Takao the lecture about their ancestor to try an motivate him so that he starts taking his kendo training seriously, Takao sneaks and runs away from the dojo.

In the anime however, when Ryonnosuke gets distracted talking about the ancient family sword technique, Takao sees an opening and touches his grandfather’s head with his sword; with this, Takao makes the point against grandfather, who just told Takao if he at least landed a point (hit), he would be free to go. That’s why Ryonnosuke looks surprised in the panel where Takao’s sword touches him.

In both versions Takao goes away running.

En el anime cuando Ryonnosuke le está dando su sermón a Takao acerca de su ancestro tratando de motivarlo para que empiece a tomar en serio su entretenimiento de kendo, Takao se escabulle para huir del dojo.

Sin embargo, en el anime, cuando Ryonnosuke se distrae hablando de la antigua técnica familiar con la espada, Takao ve su oportunidad y toca la cabeza de su abuelo con su espada de bambú, logrando obtener el punto (golpe) Takao sobre su abuelo, quien le había dicho a Takao que de obtener un ponto (acertar un golpe), lo dejaría marcharse. Es por eso que Ryonnosuke se ve sorprendido en el panel donde la espada de Takao toca su cabeza.

En ambas versiones, Takao se marcha corriendo.

In the anime, we have the scene where Ryonnosuke tells Takao (again) about the family relic, “the sword of the blue dragon”, which is their pride as the Kinomiya family.

Ryonnosuke tells how one of his ancestors forged the sword he used to kill a powerful dragon, whose soul lives inside it.

In the manga, the sword does not exist, but Ryonnosuke tells about the ancient technique “Dragon Heart Sword” taught for generations in the Kinomiya family as their special sword technique, which is used by focusing energy to defeat enemies.

En el anime, tenemos la escena dónde Ryonnosuke le cuenta a Takao (de nuevo) sobre la reliquia familiar, “la espada del dragón azul”, la cual es el orgullo de la familia Kinomiya.

Ryonnosuke cuenta como uno de sus ancestros forjó la espada que usó para matar a un poderoso dragón, cuya alma vive en la espada.

En el manga, la espada no existe, pero Ryonnosuke cuenta sobre la técnica ancestral “Espada corazón de dragón” enseñada por generaciones en la familia Kinomiya y es su técnica especial, la cual se usa enfocando la energía para derrotar a los enemigos.

The very first scene in the anime we see some random beyblades in a battle, where in the manga, in the plot chapter we see Takao getting ready to “GO SHOOT!”

En la primera parte escena del anime vemos algunos beyblade en una batalla, mientras que en el capítulo “piloto” del manga, vemos a Takao con la frase “GO SHOOT!”

In the anime we are first see Takao with his grandfather training kendo in the dojo, this scene comes in the actual 1st chapter of the manga and we actually see them having a training battle.

En el anime, vemos a Takao por primera vez en el dojo con su abuelo practicando kendo, esta escena aparece después en el manga en el capítulo uno donde los vemos tener una pelea de practica.

In the anime Takao tries to escape training distracting Ryonnosuke, who hears the door sliding and stops him in his tracks. In the manga, on chapter one, we see Ryonnosuke scolding Takao for playing beyblade instead of practicing kendo.

En el anime, Takao trata de escapar del entrenamiento distrayendo a Ryonnosuke, quien al escuchar la puerta deslizándose, lo detiene. En el manga, capítulo uno, vemos a Ryonnosuke regañando a Takao por jugar beyblade en vez de practicar kendo.

In both, anime and manga, after scolding Takao, Ryonnosuke hold his grandson by the clothes, but in the anime he sits him in front of the family sword, while in the manga is where he makes him have a training battle.
