         Tikki’s attention already was pulled away from her snack–a gourmet cookie that she had insisted to Adrien was too lavish, yet eagerly had taken anyway–when her holder flopped down. His weariness had not gone unnoticed by her. It was only when he fully beckoned to her that she lifted from her perch on a shelf, bringing with her the half eaten cookie, offering him some of it.

         “Defeating Hawkmoth was never going to happen overnight, Adrien.” She squeaked out, setting on his stomach. “I want to be able to rest, but we aren’t any closer to finding Nooroo.” There was a sad look in her eyes as she shook her head. “You’ve been very strong though. I’m proud of you.”

          adrien smiled softly, accepting the bit of cookie from the kwami.   “thanks, tikki.”   he popped the piece into his mouth, savoring it for a second before continuing their conversation.   “i know your right. and i love this gift i’ve been given --- i love protecting paris with you and lady chat.”   he smiles again, thinking fondly of his partner in fighting crime.   “i guess what i’m saying is... i wish the stakes didn’t have to be so high, that’s all.”

         “and i’m sorry about nooroo. i can only imagine how hard it must be to have a friend missing and in danger like that.”   adrien almost shuddered at the thought of it. he really doesn’t know how he’d handle a situation like that.

         tikki’s last words really moved him --- he really hasn’t heard that much in his life.   “and thank you... i’m just doing the best i can.”   he smiled up at her, poking her face gently.   “it’s not just me, though. you’re a big help, yourself.”

         a smile spread across adrien’s face as he handed marinette her sketchbook pen back.   “sure, marinette. i couldn’t let you just lose something you need.”

         sometimes he wondered why she seemed to stumble and stutter and mess up her words around him. he knew she was clumsy, but he seemed to amplify this trait of hers. he didn’t mind it though --- awkward or not, marinette dupain-cheng was still one of the best people he had ever known.

         “and my morning has been okay so far.”   he shrugs, sticking his hands in his pockets.   “but it is still early!”   he laughed before turning to elbow her arm playfully.

         “ fair, ”  he shrugs as he glances over at her.  “ honestly, i didn’t really study for it. ”  adrien admitted, laughing nervously as he stood and packed up the last of his things.  “ what about you --- how do you think you did? ”

         because of his double life, so to say, adrien’s grades may have been starting to suffer a tiny bit. he knew it would be bad once his father found out about it, but it thankfully hadn’t gotten to that point yet.

Felicia ran her fingers through her hair before grabbing her bag. Another boring day had finally come to its end and she couldn’t be more thankful. A pop quiz in trigonometry and a huge chemistry test today had put her in a rather sour mood. She huffed as she started to talk out. She saw Adrien and shot him a look. “How do you think that test went today?”

🌸◜          Marinette was upstairs, working on a big sewing project. It was something important and she really needed to finish it but, she kept getting distracted. It seemed that tonight was no different because as soon as her father had asked her to take out the bakery trash before they closed up for the night, she unknowingly walked right onto a certain kitty’s prowling grounds.

               The cool night air felt nice against her skin and the wind gently sifted through her silken onyx bangs.Once she’d tossed the heavy trash bag into the nearby dumpster, Marinette prepared to return to her room for the evening and continue her work. That was, until Chat Noir appeared; his voice caused her to turn her head. Those familiar green eyes made her smile but it piqued her curiosity. What was he doing just roaming around at night without her?

               “Chat Noir?” Well, now she had to engage him. “It’s very peaceful but, shouldn’t you be enjoying a night in? Wouldn’t tonight be like, I don’t know, a night off for a superhero?” She was trying to sound as uninformed as she could. Being a civilian around him when she was actually Ladybug became increasingly difficult the more he came around. He was starting to grow on her a little, even when she was transformed but, it was still strange that he seemed to like hanging around her civilian self as well.

         “  a night off from fighting crime, yes, but superheroes never really get time off.  ”   chat grinned as he leaned against the wall behind him. the truth of the matter was, he doesn’t really like to be at home any more. over the years, the place has started to feel too much like a prison, and the paris night air has never made him feel confined or small and neither has marinette. so, needless to say, she was always someone he didn’t mind running into.

         “ what about you? ”   chat asked as he crossed his arms over his chest.   “ don’t you have school tomorrow? ”   of course, adrien knew this information to be true, but he figured that it would also be a safe assumption for chat noir to make sense the two have met each other a couple times before.

          “  i know,  ”     chat grins, shifting his position in order to sit more comfortably on the rail next to her.     “  but cat’s are nocturnal, ya know. i’m just not tired yet.  ”     he looks over at her, green eyes gleaming ever so slightly.

          “  what about you? why are you up so late?  ”     he asked before looking back out in front of him. if he had to guess, he figured her being out on her balcony this late might have something to do with the view. paris really was beautiful, especially at night. he sat quietly, just staring out at the city he loved as he waited for her response.

          well, this was not how adrien had imagined (or hoped) that marinette’s birthday party would have started. of course, there had to be same crazy akuma attack on the city to delay him (and everyone else) from having everything ready on time. the cake wasn’t finished, the decorations weren’t all completely set up yet, and mostly everyone was late because they were running around trying to get everything ready. so, adrien volunteered to wait in the park for marinette to explain everything to her (and, he may have needed an excuse to go off by himself in order to fight said akuma as well).

          so there he was, waiting for his friend in the park, when he heard a commotion coming from behind him. he heard a greeting and his name as well as he turned, and a smile stretched across his face as his eyes landed on the birthday girl.

          “  hey, marinette. happy birthday!  ”     he smiled, taking a few steps towards her as well.     “  i’m here to let you know that everyone is on there way,  ”     he started, a hand  reaching up to scratch the back of his neck.     “  there were some timing complications because of the akuma...  ”     he sighed, shaking his head a little bit (he loved being a superhero, but sometimes, he wishes there wasn’t such a great need for them).

          looking down at marinette, he noticed that she seemed to have run into a couple of complications herself --- one of them being that she wasn’t wearing any shoes. a smile found its way to his face again.     “  ya know what? while we wait, we should probably start opening some presents, right?  ”     he suggested, reaching across the table to pick up a gift wrapped in pink paper.     “  and since i’m the only one here, let’s start with mine.  ”     he held it out to her, happy he decided to get her red slide-on shoes with black polka dots on them (he just hoped alya had been right about marinette’s shoe size).

Marinette bounced on her heels, today was the worst day for her to be late: her own birthday party. She was supposed to be there fifteen minutes ago, and as she waited for the subway to arrive at its destination, it was clear, she was not making it to the park on time. 

It was Mari’s sweet sixteen, she was super excited, her whole class (including Adrien!) was supposed to be there, and thanks to a stupid Akuma attack, her dress was ruined, she was late to her own party, and she felt extremely tired. 

The door finally opens, and she gets off the subway, noticing right then, her heel broke, wonderful. She lets out a deep sigh, before taking off her heels and trudging up the stairs and towards the park. Stopping as she sees the location she was supposed to go too, each picnic table was empty, and there was no one else around.

Well, almost no one. Adrien was there, and Marinette felt her face heat up in embarrassment instantly as she sped walked over. “H-Hi Adrien!” She squeaks out, avoiding his eyes.
