I drew this ages ago but never posted it to Tumblr cause I forgot, whoops!! The previous post reminded me a lot about my concept of Remus being the older sibling as it lead to the idea of Roman being reduced to a helpless teary child in the hands of his brother in a possibld reunion.

History nerd rant here: I really like that Roman and Remus are specified to be a prince and duke. In a royal family context, a prince and duke were equals, the only time a prince was specifically over a duke was the crown prince or heir to the throne. The thing is that Roman is never specified to be a crown prince, he's just a prince. Which means that he and Remus are, in terms of royal titles, equals. It's a really clever way of messing with the audiences perception of them.

The main issue i have with the depiction of Janus in this way isn't if being ooc or unsympathetic, but how much this absolutely horrible villanified version of him only existed to push on ships.

Its such a horrible mishandling of something so serious and sensitive to discuss, yet its boiled down to some cheap angst and hurt/comfort. When you want to make the big step of addressing a story with a victim of SA, you better be prepared to do it right.

This fandom continues to push such harmful rhetorics and situations which leads to misinformation and worst case scenarios. Everyone knows a majority of the fandom is underage, and apart of me wouldn't be surprised if the people even writing these fics where underage themselves.

There should have been a louder outcry about this issue back then than ever, but it never happened and that upsets me.

Being a janus stan was not for the weak back when on "Can lying be good" was the only episode out of him.

Why was there so many fanfiction in this fandom that had Janus as a rapist? No like genuinely, why. When looking back and talking about thr worst fanfiction I've had the misfortune of reading (prinxiety in which Roman saves Virgil from Janus who is some abusive rapist), my friend began to recall their own memory of many fic or arts that has Janus be a physical and more often than not, sexual abuser.

So far now, I have recovered around 12 fics that centre around Janus sexually assaulting thr sides, and tho you can argue that its not a huge number, that was the amount of fics I found in just two hours. Imagine what more I could find if I went in deeper.

Worst of all, alot of these fics would very VERY heavily imply that a side was assaulted by Janus, so alot of these topics are not tagged properly. You cant just say "unsympathetic janus" and think that is enough.

I genuinely need to know why the hell so many of those fics existed when Janus was just a announced as a character in sanders sides. He barely had any deep development, was this so desperate hungry need for shippers to have someone play the role of villian in their cheap fantasy romance???

Starting off the week with a bang! The original "The Willful Child" Grimm's story ends with the arm retreating back into the earth after being struck by the mother, the child "finally being at rest".

This version goes a little differently. Because as we all know, repression does not work >:)

Ive been dying to ramble about intruality for so long!

They are literally part of my top three favourite ships in the entirety of sanders and their dynamic is just so damn appealing to me.

The main thing that always gets me about them is their perspective of the other. I dont think it would be too far fetched to say that Remus and Patton see the other in a just a diluted form of Patton being just a joyball goody two shoes type of guy from Remus's perspective, while Patton sees Remus as something entirely... wrong.

Now take the concept of these two having this very stereotypical impressions of each other and then put those two in an isolated scenario that requires them to dig deeper into the other only to find the complexity of their existence.

Patton isn't just a goody two shoes, hes a person who has a strict sense of morals and beliefs while also trying to unlearn his rather "conservative" way of thinking after being faced with the conquences of such repression. Meanwhile, Remus isn't just a guy that cause harm for his entertainment, he is someone quite literally created that way from possibly his first day of existence and expresses his purpose loudly and freely without the need to shackle himself.

These two are such a contrast of too much restriction and too much freedom. So the idea of them having to see how the other faces a dilemma in their own unique way is so fascinating to think about.

Moreover, another poetic irony of them possibly getting into relationship is always the judgement. How many fanfics and fanart are there of intruality in which the idea of the others being appaled, disturbed and even repulsed by the idea of Remus and Patton being together?

I know this is such a stretch to say but literally the whole foundation of their relationship will always seem to be overshadowed by the judgement of others, something that Patton himself would hate to face. They make such an amazing "burning want" "will they wont they" ship trope and I really wish people looked more into it!

I have tons of more things I wanna yap about regarding intruality but im drawing a blank rn so maybe next time!

Me, as though I’ve been in the throes of conversation with another person for hours: “—that’s the thing about [insert topic here]—”

Anyhow, to make this post inaccessible, I shall talk about the unpopular Sanders Sides ship Intruality (Patton/Remus).

That’s the THING ABOuT IT… it’s a crackship. Even though none of the ships are in any way feasible in the series, it’s most widely considered to be the least feasible. So, the content is mostly just silly content. They’re an odd couple. Oooo the buttoned up (but not too buttoned up) sweet papa man and the literal trash gremlin??? Kissing?? Scandalous! But oho! You failed to realize… they’re both silly guys.

Bug. But what about the angst? There is angst that prominently features both characters, but not a lot of it centres them also boning.

You can go the obvious route of “Patton needs to come to terms with the Goblin Man” and just take it to its logical extreme: “so he can kiss him on the mouth” . Or you could take a Remus POV approach… have him coming to terms with the fact that he actually wants to be with Patton, and it’s not just a daddy kink joke that has gone stale. He wants to… ugheh… he wants to hold hands with him and make him laugh? Disgusting!!!

And ya know. The angst part. Have these two deal with the fact that Thomas’ Morality caused the split in his Creativity into “Good” and “Bad”. Remus would obviously not be mad to exist, but to be created for the sole purpose of being shunned? Oof. And, on top of that, he wants to rub noses with the guy whose fault it is? Ugh! And Patton feels that good ol Catholic Guilt about being tempted to make out with Remus when he’s supposed to be making it up to Remus! Ooooh boy we’re in it.

I love the silly guy content… but I also think they should get a divorce arc. Every ship gets one. I need Remus taking the air fryer in the divorce.

I would loveeeeeee some one-sided loceit where Logan develops feelings for Janus unexpectedly after the opportunity to have heart to heart moments about a topic with Janus, which makes him see the snake in a whole new light. This leads to Logan wanting to spend more time with Janus because he's never had the chance to have such meaningful conversations with another side before, and that further leads to him accepting that he has feelings for Janus.

And all of that to be stripped away when he realises that those talks he shared with Janus were just simple discussions to the snake. What he thought was something so deep and impactful was just small talk.

Add on to make it worse, Janus having feelings, but for someone else to make Logan even more miserable than the one chance he had at finally accepting feelings was meaningless and in vain.

god. janus sanders really is a character of all time, just in terms of concept. when you were a little kid, you did something wrong, and you got so scared of getting in trouble that another little guy was born inside you. and he loves you. and he wants you to stay safe. so he tells you to lie now, take care of yourself now, keep yourself safe. but all the other little guys inside you hate him. he's too mean, too selfish. the little guy that was born from your desire to do good and be good hates him the most, because you're a little catholic boy, and lying is bad. and you're a good boy. so everything inside you that isn't good has to be shut away.

he knows he's not wanted. he creates his own place to stay, a hidden corner where he can't hurt you. because all the others say that he'll end up hurting you, and he can see how scared you are of being a liar, so he lets himself be forgotten. hidden away. this is how he shows his love: by hiding himself, and every subsequent unwanted part that grows inside you, from you. if knowing about their existence is too difficult for you, then he'll hide them all. he loves you. you don't even know his name.

he watches you grow, still unaware of his existence. the others make their presence known, felt. you let them take the reigns, most of the time. he sneaks in his own little influence here and there; small, harmless lies, only when necessary, so you won't even notice. and in the meantime, he acts as a herder of sorts for all the other parts of yourself that you've subconsciously cast away. he keeps them in line. he sympathizes with them, yes, he knows what it's like to be unwanted. but letting you see them would hurt you, and he loves you. so he keeps them there, in the shadow, unknown and unseen, just like him.

one of them, one of his little dark, unwanted things, doesn't want to be hated anymore. he wants to make himself known. he wants a seat at the table. and, in an ultimate slap to the face for janus, he gets it. virgil gets everything that janus was denied from the start. acceptance. power. control. his effort is acknowledged, his necessity is embraced. he gets a seat at the table. he doesn't have to hide anymore. and janus can't help but resent him for that. maybe it's a good thing, then, that the hatred is mutual. not even his own cattle, the ones he kept safe, the ones he kept out of thomas' way, can stand his presence. fine. none of it matters. as long as you're safe, it was all worth it. he loves you. you still don't even know his name.

janus was always thomas' protector. even when none of it was ever seen or acknowledged.

i find his mixed motif really interesting too, because before we knew his name, we only knew him as deceit. the snake. the ancient serpent deceiver, the biblical snake of eden. but then we hear his name. janus. ianus bifrons, two-faced janus, god of beginnings, passage, transitions. i think that his name being revealed was very much the start of thomas beginning to see janus for who he actually is, instead of the heavily modified version of him that he's been seeing, courtesy of his catholic upbringing.
