Kinda like how humans look at a freshly born baby who looks like an alien and get all mushy over the baby
Are baby centaurs born with “fairy slippers”?
( basically the weird, squishy tentacle things on newborn foals hooves that keep them from harming the mom durning pregnancy & birth)
I don't see why not! The baby centaur's parents remove them shortly after birth though, and if they are not removed they will just fall off on their own after a while.
Other peoples are usually creeped out by these weird fleshy hooves, but centaurs find it totally adorable!

Why do I think that aquatic/semi-aquatic birds predated on Inkling/Octoling ancestors? Also, many of the arising Mollusks ALSO got eaten by aquatic birds
Also, the Corvids could essentially have become full-fledged members of society here
Members that are menaces to society, but members of society nonetheless
Let’s Talk About the Animals in Splatoon 2
Specifically the birds, since we know 100% those exist. This isn’t Splatoon 3 i don’t care about the return of mammalians I pretend I do not see for all we know they’re gonna either slap some fur on everything or make the bunny concept return I dont care!!!
WE’RE GONNA TALK ABOUT BIRDS
All mammals are dead, yada yada we know this stuff. We know humans are extinct and the planet flooded killing everything else. I was recently hit with the realization at 1am designing aliens that hey evolution in birds would happen if the majority of predators and prey suddenly died out.
Slowly regressing back into dinosaur-like stature would probably occur. Not necessarily back to what it was originally, as not as many years have passed, but just enough that our birds look a liiiiittle bit more reptilian. That is to say, reptiles, amphibians and insects stayed without much change, with a few causalities in species and competition for land. But were not here to talk about those. We’re here for BIRDS.

Hard-Shelled Beaks.
Mostly taken from already large-beaked birds who scavenge for fruit, mollusks, crabs and others. Coastal region birds, with little to no predators for them and the mass resurgence of coastal creatures, these birds managed to grow into massive sizes. We’re talking ostrich sized. Tough as hell beaks that can break coconuts and strong legs. They became flightless, but are fairly docile and seen stealing from picnics on beaches fairly often.

Song Birds
Robins, finches, starlings, etc etc. All the small little guys. Since most mammals are gone that means mice, rats, rabbits, etc are all gone and the competition for food minimized. These guys evolved to take over that specific niche and remained small to accommodate for it. Their wings reduced in size and can’t do much anymore, but their beaks are their main weapon and specifically evolved for different food groups depending on species. They run fairly fast!

Hen Harrier / Hawks
The top predators of the bird world and stalking forests. Their main food source was said rodents and small mammals, with those gone they had to adjust to going for small birds instead. Since song birds became forest-floor critters, they evolved raptor-like stances for fast foot travel and chase but retained their ability to climb and glide long distances. Perfect little killing machines these guys.

Marine Birds (Duck, Geese, Gulls, etc)
Strength in number, their already often teeth-full beaks continued to grow out into truly terrifying serrating machines you don’t really want to come across. They became primarily aquatic, and their tails formed into rudders and feet widened for better swimming and ambushing prey from the water. It’s a beautiful day and you’re still a horrible, horrible goose with razor sharp teeth.

Corvids
The brains of the bird world, they learned better tool usage with now not only their beaks, but also frontal claws and feet. Compare them to microraptors if you will, the rats of urban cities that cause mischief on purpose. These birds are extremely social and can even be trained. You probably don’t want to anger a pack of these to come after you. Thankfully they’re scavengers, so they’re not bloodthirsty… yet. Doesn’t mean they won’t get into a grocery store to raid the food though.

Pigeons
Human domestication sure did a number of them huh. Perfect urban birds, perfect little dumbass machines. They remained fairly similar, still agile, still fast, scavengers and dwelling in cities and ruins. Still got dumb luck on their side to survive life, and also we see pigeons in the game as normal birds.

They look like lizardfolk!

Here is a sheet that I’ve made detailing the appearances and differences between Inklings and Octolings. (These designs are heavily inspired by @dogtoling and their awesome art PLEASE go check them out they’re so cool!)
Biology info under the cut: (buckle up it’s a long post)
Both Inklings and Octolings / being cephalopods, they have all of the hallmark traits of one (boneless, black beaks, ink, three hearts, blue blood etc.) However, neither species can breathe underwater as their gills have long since evolved into lungs, though these guys love to swim and do so often.
Both constantly change colour at will through the use of expanding chromatophores embedded in their skin. They change colour to indicate emotion most of the time. Inklings and Octolings have powerful suckers on all of their limbs, which they use to grip surfaces. These suckers are so strong that an inkfish could hang from the ceiling with just one hand or foot.
The ‘tail’ is actually not a tail at all, but rather another limb (and a strong one at that!). It is a recent and unusual development in their evolution, most believing it to have been the result of allopatric speciation arising when both species were separated geographically.
Also all of their limbs will grow back if they are lost, however it really hurts, y’know. Generally Inkfish will not cut their tentacles unless they need to, as it’s literally like cutting off one of your arms or legs…
Inkling / these guys are bioluminescent in lower lighting conditions thanks to symbiotic bacteria within their skin. A unique trait of Inklings is the long, clubbed tentacles that are lined with sucker-teeth. These tentacles are used for fighting and are quite dangerous. They also got a little bit of webbing under their arms.
Octoling / Unlike the inkling, the Octoling possesses a greater degree of control over their skin in the form of bumpy papillae, which usually appear when agitated. Another unique trait Octolings have is that their saliva contains tetrodotoxin, making them venomous. The victim’s symptoms will vary depending on their body mass, though for Inklings it will usually result in a full-body burning sensation, followed by paralysis for 3-8 hours. Smaller creatures will likely be killed by it though as the paralysis prevents them from breathing.

At best I'd take a picture, maybe take 1 or 2 coins out to look at before plopping them back into the pot
I don't know where to sell gold, so it's trash to me
One day you follow a rainbow and find a pot of gold at the end. After marveling at it, you eventually resist the urge to take any because you aren’t a thief. The leprechaun who owns it wasn’t expecting that.

The best thing humans have is an apartment filled with multiple generation families (EG immigrant families sticking together) with pets and the random bugs, rats, mice, and pigeons living there, and the snakes that decide to eat the rats, mice and pigeons
The animals aren't usually welcome, but still

We’re all thinking about sociable weavers like three times a day, right?

A most fitting placeholder
Evelynn Hearthflame, Divine of Destruction
Evelynn Heartflame was born in Evangeline to a typical farmer family in the middle 5th Age, oblivious to her future divine status.
She had a generally simple and calm childhood, although her family did report she had a pyromaniac streak even as a child, loving to burn small fires for herself.
DIVINITY
Sometime after her 6th birthday, Evelynn was granted divinity and all of its implications. This went generally unnoticed for 3 years, when her mother realized she hadn't aged a day since she was 6
As time went on, it only became more clear to her family that Evelynn was, indeed, a divine. Her mother was fearful for what would happen should she inevitably become an orphan, and, on her deathbed, made Evelynn's oldest brother, and the heir to their ailing father's farm, swear to her that he would take care of her after their father's death.
6 months later, Evelynn's father died of heart failure, and true to his word, Evelynn's brother Angelo not only took her in, he made his children take care of the young divine as well
Evelynn knew extremely little of her divinity for years, only knowing she was never growing and wasn't allowed to go into town, a rule her brother had made to his children to ensure she wasn't taken away from them by the Evangelite government or the World Athenaeum
Eventually, she was placed in the care of Angelo, her "uncle" who was her brother's great-grandson many times removed. Soon after she settled into his home, Angelo fell deathly ill and learned he had, at best, two years to live. The rest of their family was deemed unsuitable to care after Evelynn by Angelo's father, and so, breaking 600 years of tradition, took her to a DivineCon in Matuzu at the World Athenaeum, having her registered to get in
Here, Evelynn quickly befriended a divine named Skylie, and after learning of her family from Angelo, was adopted by the younger divine. Skylie quickly took to bonding with the little girl, teaching her basic magic and having her friend Saraia forge Evelynn a monster named Bishop, who quickly bonded with Evelynn while being highly aggressive to anyone other than Evelynn
Eventually, Evelynn learned how to make explosives, which made her already-pyromania-prone mind gleam with destructive intent: During the AFPINIOT War, she quickly used her limited explosives knowledge to destroy small warbands while refining her bomb crafting skills, something that got so out of hand Skylie had to ban her from using bombs recklessly
TRIVIA

Usual placeholder, this time showing how Bishop's head grows over the years
Pachycephalo Ostioruptor, Alias Bishop
Name: Bishop
Class: Monster, Saraian, Chess Egg Saraian, Mediumweight
PPL Category: 4. Very dangerous and hostile to peoples. Orders: Kill on sight
Bishop is the fourth identified Chess Egg Saraian, and the smallest by far: A mere 8 feet long and 4 feet tall. However, he makes up for this lack in size with overwhelming aggression, even to his creator Saraia. However, he shows unwavering loyalty to his handler Evelynn Hearthflame, a 6 year old human divine, who he lets ride him like a horse.
Made with pachycephalosaur fossils, rocks, satyr and minotaur skeletons, donkey manure and goat bile in a matrix of clay and chalk, Bishop is an extremely stubborn and aggressive creature, and befitting of the nomenclature Thick-Headed Door Smasher, is capable of damaging almost anything in his way.
Oddly, his head slowly grows a large dome between his eyes, starting from a flat, spiky surface to a large, smooth dome, with 6 inch spikes along the back of his head and 3 inch spikes scattered across the front of his snout. He is also covered in osteoderms all across his skin, and sports a tail lined with blade-like spikes
His arms are much less useful than his siblings, being unable to grip things efficiently, although her rarely needs to.
When being ridden by Evelynn, Bishop has a saddle with bags to carry the many, many explosives his master loves to have around

Typical Placeholder
Dracodaemonis Triceps, Alias Queen
Name: Queen
Class: Monster, Saraian, Chess Egg Saraian, Titan
PPL Category: 3. Generally hostile or exhibits chronic nuisance behavior. Orders: Imprison if possible, kill if necessary
Queen is the third Chess Egg Saraian created, and the most different in terms of personality and form. Unlike the others, Queen is much less aggressive and more prone to flee confrontations, and is much faster in the sky than the ground
She has 3 heads, the central one being the one most in control, and 2 pairs of wings, with a pair of legs which are used only to carry things, such as a gondola made for her to carry
Queen was forged from 3 live herons, azhdarchid pterosaur fossils, clay, chalk and copper wires, with the 3 herons surviving the ordeal as Queen's new heads
She is also capable of electromancy, using her 3 heads to control electricity to destroy her opponents

Placeholder, as usual
Imperatrix Daemonoregnosecundus, Alias Rook
Name: Rook
Class: Monster, Saraian, Chess Egg Saraian, Heavyweight
PPL Category: 4. Extremely dangerous and hostile to peoples. Special Orders: DO NOT ENGAGE
Rook is the second Chess Egg Saraian Saraia has ever made, created for her friend, the former Princess of Evangeline Skylie Hearthflame, who soon became the lone controller of the Imperatrix Daemonoregnosecundus, the Demon King's Second In Command
While much smaller than her brother King, at only 6 feet at the shoulder and 24 feet long, she is noticeably better at ambushes, due to her capability of flight, abilities of camouflage and invisibility, and much smaller size enabling her to hide in ways the much larger King cannot, not least being able to move into buildings without damaging them
She has vicious toe claws on the insides of her feet, vicious hands with similarly huge claws, and wings to fly - Not to mention her bite is extremely powerful and capable of breaking a human's skull. She is a very strong flyer, capable of carrying 4 mediumweight peoples while flying at a top speed of 60 miles per hour
Similarly to King, Rook can also breath fire, albeit differently: She can exhale blue fire in a thin beam capable of melting iron, spit a gout of flaming gel that explodes with enough force to instantly kill most peoples and shatter stone, or spray out the gel in an unlit form to later burn if needed, although the gel will dry out and become inert after several hours
She is also extremely intelligent, and can quickly assess a situation, usually resting unless she needs to come to action. She is also an efficient guardian, refusing to harm young children and keeping an endless eye on them
Children also appreciate her softness, as her feathers are inexplicably softer than even the most luxurious silks
This softness is unknown, even to Saraia, who admits to using dromaeosaurid fossils, clay, chalk, and eagle bones

Once again, a placeholder
Indominotyrannus Daemonoreganax, Alias King
Name: King
Class: Monster, Saraian, Chess Egg Saraian, Titan
PPL Category: 4. Extremely dangerous and hostile to peoples. Special Orders: DO NOT ENGAGE
OVERVIEW
Saraia's first monster, many deem King's creation a cruel joke on magic's part due to the success and power, yet great loyalty to the Scourge of Evangeline, of the Indominotyrannus Daemonoreganax, or Indomitable Tyrant Demon Lord-King.
Standing at a massive maximum of 36 feet and a maximum length of 72 feet, King is all-white except for red-black osteoderms along his back, red-black teeth infused with iron, and similarly-colored and infused horns, frill, axe-thagomizers and nasal boss.
As if the oppressive level of natural weaponry this living siege weapon has to offer weren't enough, King is all but immune to burns or any kind and can exhale massive white-fire flames in massive arcs to destroy anyone he needs to at a range
Despite being extremely dangerous to all, not to mention nigh invulnerable to all but the mightiest siege weapons and similarly massive monsters, King is... Rather peaceful when not wreaking havoc, and dearly loyal to his creator Saraia, allowing the red elf to ride on his head
King is also highly intelligent, and can strategize rather competently, although due to his indomitable nature he rarely needs much more action than annihilating everything in his path, although he often uses terror and his size to scare off poorly trained soldiers and especially animals, such as cavalry mounts

Damijana for Gaia's first 4,000 years:
Damijana for the last 2,000 years:

DAMIJANI HISTORY
Primal Age
Damijana is located on the western coast of Evik. But before it was a towering megalopolis of iron and concrete, this land was all lush forests and rocky beaches. The region was populated by a race of elves called the Boanningwad [Bwah-ning-wod], ancestors of the red elves.
The Boanningwad tribes lived in harmony with their natural surroundings, feeding themselves with forage from the forests and fish from the sea. They practiced small-scale gardening and hunting, but were not known to ranch animals. Their way of life was peaceful, as they had little contact with the minotaurs, centaurs, or other peoples of the region. They were even friendly with the local nymphs, who considered the Boanningwad to be fellow stewards of the ecosystem.
1st Age
The Boanningwad’s way of life did not change much throughout the 1st Age. They were somewhat confined to their forest, as the plains to the east were populated by hostile tribes of centaurs and minotaurs. But these heavyweight peoples had difficulty traversing the forest terrain, so the Boanningwad were largely left alone.
2nd Age
Three thousand years had passed since Gaia gave life to the Boanningwad elves. Tribes around them were growing and changing, yet these elves were still living the same way they always had, in the same location they always had, with barely any foreign influence. Their lifestyle was comfortable and sustainable, and so they felt no need to fix what was not broken.
They did not go looking for change. However, change was coming to them…
3rd Age
Western Evik began seeing its first foreigners trickling in from Noalen at the start of the 3rd Age. These foreigners–mainly human and dworfen–did not like the way things were going in Evangeline Kingdom and were seeking fortune in this exotic new land. They first made contact with the Boanningwad elves, who welcomed them peacefully and even helped them build villages nearby.
However, the Boanningwad had never met peoples like these Noalenders before, and they were caught off guard by how fast their civilizations grew. The Noalenders’ population rapidly multiplied, their colonies expanded several times over, and it was all thanks to the advanced technologies they had brought with them from their motherland.
This period was known as “The Dworfen Expansion” (Though this is a bit of a misnomer, as not all of the colonists were dworfs, but dworfs did make up about half of the colonist population).
This rapid expansion came at a cost to the natural environment. The Boanningwad noticed that the colonists were not living in a way that was sustainable long-term, while also destroying the wilderness around them. This naturally led to large conflicts, and the Boanningwad were forced deeper and deeper into the forests to escape the reach of the destructive colonies.
The colonists quickly made contact with the centaurs, minotaurs, and other peoples in the plains, and trading with them only helped their colonies grow faster. In less than 400 years, the colonists had built several satellite villages around western Evik with efficient trade lines between them. Many gaian tribespeople were impressed by their technology and ways of life, and abandoned their tribes to assimilate with the colonists.
By year 3400, western Evik was dotted with several large, productive settlements dominated by the Noalender colonists. A Great Kingdom called Evangeline had just risen back in their motherland, and this inspired the colonies to form their own Great Kingdom, which they called Zareen Empire.
Shortly after its formation, Zareen launched a campaign to enslave the Boanningwad elves, who had spent the entire age resisting assimilation into the colonies. This forceful enslavement gave a great boost to Zareen’s wealth and power on the world stage.
4th Age
Noalen was dominated by Evangeline Kingdom in the 4th Age, and this kingdom was undergoing major turmoil with wars, the Full Moon Genocides, and a rising Lindist Theocracy. These events drove large populations of Noalenders to immigrate to Zareen Empire.
Zareen saw a population explosion, and suddenly cheap labor was plentiful. The use of automatons was becoming more widespread as well, and these robots were getting so advanced that keeping flesh-and-blood slaves was becoming less profitable by comparison. Around year 4350, the empire decided that this was a good time to finally liberate the Boanningwad elves it had enslaved a thousand years prior.
However, the Boanningwad’s DNA had changed drastically due to generations of chemical exposures and medical experimentation. They no longer resembled their ancestors, but became a new race of elf all their own. This new elven race was uniquely burn resistant and immune to iron poisoning, though they had lost their ability to understand animals and had shorter lifespans than other elves. They became known as “red elves”, named for their unique blood-red hair and orange eyes.
Zareen feared it would be burdened by all these newly-released slaves, so it made them an offer: they could become Zareenite citizens, or they could live on a reservation in the Boanningwad’s old territory and become sovereign. Because they faced so much poverty and oppression in the empire, most of the red elves chose to forfeit citizenship in favor of sovereignty on the reservation.
However, this was no longer the lush forest their ancestors knew. The Zareenites had used it as a landfill for derelict machines, old ships and aircrafts, and random electronic waste. But the red elves had been forced to build and maintain such machines for the last thousand years, and they were educated enough to repair and recycle these components. They made the most of a bad situation, putting their sharp minds and special skills to good use.
Just 200 years later, around year 4600, the red elves turned this landfill into a Great Kingdom. This kingdom was called the Empire of Damijana, and now it was a serious competitor to Zareen.
5th Age
Damijana was built upon a Zareenite landfill. But one empire’s junk turned out to be another’s treasure, for the Damijani people had the skills to efficiently strip all this waste for valuable metals like copper, aluminum, and gold. They sold this scrap back to Zareen and invested much of the revenue into education. This decision paid off handsomely by the 5th Age, as this was the first and only Great Kingdom to achieve 100% literacy.
Damijana did not have a lot of natural resources to export, so it instead began exporting its knowledge. Other Great Kingdoms outsourced their bureaucracy to Damijana, and it became the paper-pushing capital of the world. In the early 5000’s, it was said that 80% of Damijani citizens worked in offices. They did everything from banking to writing legal documents to designing architecture for foreign lands. The empire’s highly standardized education system ensured consistent results from its population, and this kind of consistency was valuable to other Great Kingdoms.
In the 5330’s, the Zareenite Jayef-Ku Chemical Corporation developed a new all-in-one herbicide that promised to kill all weeds and insects on contact. The chemical worked remarkably well, and soon it was being used by every farm and homeowner in Zareen Empire. But after a couple decades of widespread use, crop yields were sharply falling, lawns were dying, and the soil just wasn’t rebounding anymore. Insects had all but disappeared and there were no worms in the dirt. This had a devastating effect on wildlife and many species went extinct, from fish to birds to mammals.
Investigators traced this environmental disaster back to Jayef-Ku’s herbicide, which had seeped into the groundwater and wreaked havoc all over the empire’s territory and beyond. The product was banned, but by then it was too late. Between the herbicide and all of Zareen’s other pollutive products and industries, its local ecosystem had been irreparably devastated, turning much of its wilderness into barren wasteland. The empire experienced a years-long famine before finally securing enough food imports to feed its people, now forced to import almost all of its food from foreign kingdoms.
The damage extended to Damijana’s farmlands as well, devastating its food supply, and all three Great Kingdoms of Evik (Zareen, Damijana, and Mogdir) went to war over this. This was known as the Herbicide War of 5365. In the end, many lives were lost on all sides and no cleanup effort was made, for neither empire would take responsibility for the disaster. A truce was eventually called, and Damijana was forced to import most of its food from other Great Kingdoms as well.
After the war, Damijana and Zareen were both experiencing economic strife. Damijana made a bold move and decided to set up a large mining operation on Slegelse Island, just off the western coast of Evik. This seemingly barren chunk of rock was home to a volatile volcano, which spewed magma and hostile pyriads. Damijana cracked down on crime in its lower sectors during this time, rounding up thousands of prisoners to send to the island. The prisoners were forced to slay the pyriads and mine the pyre crystals from their bones, which could be refined into highly valuable materials.
This risky maneuver paid off, and Damijana saw yet another huge economic leap by 5500. It had become the third richest Great Kingdom on Gaia, just behind Matuzu and Zareen.
As Damijana grew, its citizens and culture were getting harder to control. So, in the 5550's, Damijana created a government-sponsored religion called the Communion of the One and banned all worship of other faiths. The Communion pushes government propaganda as a faith, and its members use telepathy to literally get into peoples’ heads, ensuring their obedience. The religion has grown rapidly since its conception, and its influence has even begun to spread outside Damijana.
6th Age
By the 6th Age, Damijana was feeling trapped in its little corner of Evik. To the west was a vast sea, and to the east was several hostile kingdoms upon a barren wasteland. Equally hostile nymphs populated foreign continents, and they did not like Damijana’s pollutive technology. Damijana had grown so tall that it was nearly touching the stars, and it could expand upward no more.
When Chieftess Serafeen rose to power, she decided that the only solution was to expand beyond the stars and leave Gaia entirely. She founded Project Starlight in 5930, an ambitious campaign to colonize the moon. But no Great Kingdom had launched a successful space program before, and many believe that Serafeen is just wasting tax dollars on a pointless endeavor.

The heroes seem confused, as their King made sure the kingdom was safe from evil by sending brave heroes to fight said evil
"But does he ensure their families are provided for, should they die?" The villainess asks them, seemingly reading their mind (Oh wait, she was a known telepath and mind controller, she likely was), turning her thrown telekinetically to reveal many names of those she's slain. "Are children safe should they turn out to be monsters? I'll let you in on a secret: Every time a monster, child or not, is chased away, they come here and find support"
"Hey, the king always makes sure the people are fed!" The mage, also the princess in disguise, called out
"Oh, you sweet summer child, nobility has really softened your mind," The villainess sighed as if she were about to disappoint a child that she couldn't have just ice cream for dinner. "It only seems like that is the case as you've only seen generally wealthier villages..."
The villainess made a vision of a run-down village far off the beaten path of the kingdom, where several people are close to starvation. "This village is far from the high roads of the kingdom and the borders of my realm, and their harvest is almost entirely taken by tax collectors. I manage to alleviate those closest to the border by sending local surpluses to them," The vision changed again to reveal several peasants obviously in the borderlands receiving food from her dark knights
“A villain am I? When I demand loyalty from my minions I reward them with protection. My armies know I will provide for their widows. My workers are all well fed. The children will never know grown men chasing them away for being monsters. What has your king provided for your loyalty?”
