I love it when my vocabulary spreads like a disease. Sharing a lexicon with friends is normal, it’s expected. I’m getting my coworkers to say things like “cutiepie” and one time I overheard one of my middle aged managers who is usually very monotone in the way he speaks say “yaaaaaay” in the exact tone that I do.

So, you know how certain Christian missionaries are trained to act in a very obnoxious way, so that most people they preach to will reject them outright, so they feel like the world hates them for being Christian and they can only be friends with fellow Christians? You know that thing?

I think as activists, we sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves whether we're acting like those missionaries. I think this type of behavior is a little more ingrained into our society than some of us realize, and some of us have internalized it without realizing what it's actually meant to do.

ok i know this was absolutely not the point of this post but i cannot stop staring at the fact this person bought THREE of the TotK amiibo instead of ALL FOUR and the one they left off was SIDON???????? the most popular of guys??? plus if you were gonna leave off anyone it would logically be Yunobo not even in a "ppl don't like him" way but because he was the one amiibo not up for preorder at all. like. wtf am i looking at????

the thing that's frustrating about twitter is that everyone seems to feel the need to be the smartest person in the room but never stop to consider that maybe "the people who think the switch 2 (and it's games) are too expensive and we should wait for the price to drop" and "the people who not only bought the switch 2 at launch but also spend over 1000 dollars on games and accessories (including fucking hogwarts legacy of all things)" probably are completely separate groups of people your conflating because you want to seem like the only rational adult with consistent opinions on the internet.

shipping isn’t about what the writers or actors say is or isn’t romantic. shipping isn’t even about romance a good percentage of the time. shipping is about seeing The Dynamic and going absolutely hog wild in your mind and your friends dms about it.

i cannot keep quiet about this anymore.

if you're in the US or Canada and interested in learning a language using a free app please get a library card and download MANGO. it's very good and extremely free with a library card (there are many public libraries and universities using the service, so make an account and use the search feature here to find out if there's one near you).

mango currently has 72 available languages and dialects (that's right! different courses for french or canadian french! spanish or latam spanish!). it's set up basically like an audiobook with text. the idea is that the narrator explains the words while you read, and you repeat after them or say the translation out loud when prompted. there's a daily review where you go through flashcards. you can also use the flashcards at your leisure and create your own. at the end of each chapter there's a listening comprehension quiz and a reading comprehension quiz. i cannot emphasize how effective this all is. and it's free with a card.

if you're not in the US or Canada and/or looking for something more like duolingo (don't use duolingo btw tldr they fired translators and replaced them with "ai"), then try BUSUU! it only has 14 languages atm but the lessons are really descriptive and effective. it also has a feature where you can correct other people's open-ended speaking/typing exercises. you set your fluent languages, and exercises by people learning those languages will appear in your feed for you to correct. you can even add others as friends! and, much like duolingo, it has a streak and leaderboard system for you to strive for, minus the guilt-tripping owl.

busuu is free (you watch ads to unlock lessons and they're all skippable after like five seconds), although it also has paid premium/plus versions (i don't use the paid version—the language courses are available for free, and the ad system is Really unobtrusive).
