The Lotus Album by Little Simz is so underrated. Hip hop pages did not talk about it much if at all 🥺. They don't want to give her credit for being the best, because they are sour. And she is an independent artists with control over her art.

Anyone here who listened to it, do you want to talk about it?

For context, if you haven't, Little Simz had to scrap 4 albums because they were produced by her long time collaborator who emotionally and financially abused her, so she could not use that music. Lotus is what she created from scratch with a new team after battling the heaviest period of her career, thinking she should just quit at this point.

Lotus explores themes of freedom, betrayal, rebirth, struggle, abuse and injustice. I am not versed enough to explain the kind of sound it is or the specific sub genre of hip hop, but it is a very good album, pls trust 😭

We don't forget, though. We know why Darrow is way too nice. It makes sense, it's part of him, it defines him as a character. It's just that people like Roque are disgusting and we complain for complaining's sake 😭.

I hope Roque is in the Vale seeing his race cannibalising itself and New Thebes nuked to hell by the Ash Lord, tho. He deserves it.

Roque should have been tortured with Oracle venom before the was allowed to die, though. Darrow is way too nice 😤

I mean I agree Roque deserves the darkest pits of hell, however I think that scene gives us a wonderful insight into Darrow as a character. I think we forget that he was born a Red way too often. He probably had friends die on him one too many times. He values their lives because they are alive, to him just them being alive means there's a chance for that connection.

The ditty today is “Peace” by Little Simz featuring Moses Sumney and Miraa May from the recent release “Lotus”.

It’s a tranquil oasis in an emotionally charged album that is impassioned with delightfully witty tracks such as “Young” and tracks full of swagger such as “Lion”. Simz is one of the queens of contemporary UK Hip-Hop, and “Peace” is a reflective track with themes such as practicing self-love, vulnerability, kindness, and grace during life’s turbulance.

It’s a fantastic album so give it a squiz if you haven’t yet!
