One of my favorite thing about Hot Fuzz is how Nicholas cares so much about every single minor offense anyone commits EXCEPT for the graffiti. He literally could not give less of a shit about defacing public property specifically for some reason.

Also I'm fairly certain the only reason Danny himself never got killed by the NWA was because he was Franks son. Like, the literal first thing he did in the movie was get drunk and almost run Nicholas over/back his car into the fountain. Basically every other person who causes even minor issues ends up getting killed, with Danny as the sole exception.

It links to him moving to Stanford and meeting Danny and how their relationship (romantic or platonic) will help guide him to switching off

Oh wow.
I was rewatching Hot Fuzz and I just realized they knew Nicholas won against Michael. That's why they tested him with the 'Narp?' question. And Danny put the pieces together before he went to see Nicholas. I think that's when he decided to fake a stab to the chest to get Nicholas out of there.
