One of my biggest surprises while reading Naruto Retsuden was that the author took the time to describe Iruka's relationship with not just Naruto, but also added brief descriptions involving most of the Rookie Nine.

Sakura and Sasuke are both explicitly stated to trust Iruka, with Sarada staying with Iruka for a month long homestay while Sakura and Sasuke are both away on mission.

Ino, Shikamaru, and Chouji turn to Iruka to look after their children when they themselves cannot be there to protect them while village is in danger, with Inojin, Shikadai, and Cho Cho all staying with Iruka and Sarada when all their parents are called to duty.

The fact that most of the Rookie Nine would entrust their Iruka Sensei with their most precious people implies not only a high level of respect but a close personal relationship as well. And it really warms my heart to see that Iruka is depicted as not only important to Naruto, but remains as part of his other students' lives as well.

Tidbits like these alone make Naruto Retsuden worth my while.

Also, Iruka watching over all the Boruto generation kids since they were ankle biters is now firmly part of my headcanon.

I've come to the conclusion that a big reason people seem not to understand Homura is that they confuse her main motivation as "Being with Madoka" as opposed to "Protecting Madoka"

The second might seem a roundabout way of expressing the first idea. By ensuring Madoka's safety, isn't Homura also securing a future at her side? And the answer to that is: well, not really.

In Episode 11, Homura herself mourns the ever growing distance between them in each time loop. It hurts her deeply, cuts her to the core, yet she is willing to march ahead as it is if it means Madoka lives.

Does she wish she could be her friend, a loved one? God, yes. Is it necessary to avert Madoka's fate? No.

Homura only needs to be close enough to keep an eye on the situation while Madoka enjoys her days together with family and friends. Closing the emotional gap they've formed is not a priority.

During the moment she meets Kyouko at the Arcade in the Anime, she straight up tells her she plans to leave Mitakihara after Walpurgisnacht is put down, giving the city in her care. With her greatest foe vanquished and no immediate danger that would force Madoka to contract, Homura considers she is not needed anymore.

A similar moment that showcases the distinction is in Rebellion, while confronting Kyubey. Homura is prepared to dig her own grave, right then and there, so Madoka doesn't fall in the Incubators' clutches. They expected her calling out to the Law of Cycles, not for Homura to throw the last chance to see Madoka again for her protection.

Thus, when she clasps Madoka's hands, not allowing the Goddess to bring her along? It is not to make Madoka her girlfriend. It is not to keep her in a space where only they exists.

It is so Madoka wouldn't carry the magical burden anymore. And if that means shredding divinity and creating a gilded cage for the whole universe? So be it.
