Hi Flansburgh! Sorry if this is a weird question to ask, but how do you feel about the way some of the fans treat you? I've seen some drama on Twitter about people calling you things like "John (homophobic slur)sburgh" or posting that photo of you kissing a man, along with other stuff. I just wanted to know if you were uncomfortable with it or anything, I'm sure all of us would stop doing it if you didn't like it. Thank you, have a nice day!

JF: I don't pay a lot of attention to stuff people say about the band (or me) beyond this page, so I am blissfully unaware of much of what you speak. I don't think it is really useful for me to track that kind of stuff very closely. As I and my band-mates have at times spoken out in ways some folks find unfitting a fellow in a band (with plenty of "stick to the music" comments generated), I guess those grumbles comes with the territory. Personally, I think speaking up and speaking out comes with being a citizen, but I do try to find a balance. I'm not a politician.

I grew up in an era where bullying and name-calling was far more socially accepted so in some sense I am acclimated to it, but those aren't my favorite memories. I have also been friends with people from the LGBT community my entire life, and while I have kind of allergic the notion of anyone declaring themselves "an ally", for this conversation I guess it is important to me, especially in this shitty moment for trans people especially, to be clear in my support for them.
