This is certainly a question for me to answer !

So, gender roles in Sparia don't really exist. Gendered titles do, but it all depends on what the individual prefers. The current Monarch's gender is personally undefined and they prefer ungendered terms, hence me calling them MC's parent as opposed to mother or father. As for the other parent, there isn't one ! MC was conceived with magic as an aid rather than with another person. The royal bloodline stays "purer" this way without the weird inbreeding that comes with "pure" bloodlines irl.

AUGH so sorry for not answering asks quickly, I've been having health issues 😭. Like, referral to a cardiologist and follow-up with my endocrinologist issues lol. I've been slowly chipping away at the google doc, but it's kind of low on the list of my priorities (Top being work for classes and my health)

But I'll answer asks when I can ! Today is a "sit on my computer and write" day, so maybe I can finally do a Snippet Sunday tomorrow !

Are MC's parents good parents? And did MC have a happy childhood?

MC had a relatively good childhood for being raised in what is essentially a tradition-run theocracy, but now that they have a taste of the outside world, they wouldn't want to go back. Ignorance is bliss, and what you don't know can't hurt you.

As for their parent, the Monarch raised MC on their own (well, not entirely. They had staff but that's no replacement for a parent), but being the sole ruler of Sparia, they didn't have much time to spend with their child, resulting in MC growing up super independent. Palace staff did their best to try and reign in a growing MC, but nothing could really stop MC from sneaking out to explore.

ROs heights?

Caidrith: 6'1 because tall dragon man 💕 He gets all his height from his mother.

Desily: 5'0, she is a fae after all. Fae come in different shapes and sizes, but pixies are typically short

Finch: 5'7, on the shorter side for someone with elf blood

Cere: 5'8 most of the time. She can change her height at will since she doesn't have a set form

Rycharde: 5'11 not including ears. Abnormally tall for catfolk, actually. Might have something to do with his homeland...

Merrick: 5'4 little merperson. Merfolk heights are dependent on what kind (?) they are. Merrick, being an anglerfish, is kind of small compared to, say, a shark, or swordfish.

What would the ROs be doing in a modern au?

For the sake of my sanity, we're gonna pretend that the modern AU takes place in the United States. Because unfortunately, I live there. Also, this was a lot of fun to think about, so thanks, Anon !

Finch - Either a professor at a college, a librarian, a state politician, or a mortician. Would always have wanted to have a career in music production deep down, though. I can see them frequenting painting bars and independent bookstores. I think they'd end up in my region of Virginia.

Desily - I think she'd make a fun daycare/elementary school teacher actually. Definitely moonlights as a drag king/queen. Probably also heavily into the goth or grunge scenes too. Might live in Montana, and if so, will frequent Glacier National Park.

Merrick - Wildlife conservationist, would probably work on a reserve and do rehab work with the animals. Can't say they'd have a favored biome but they would have a stronger connection to marine animals due to growing up on the coast, most likely in San Diego tbh. (I love tidepooling in San Diego especially.)

Caidrith - Bro is living in a landlocked state far away from any rivers or lakes. He doesn't like water, but he's so down with being active and shit on dry land. He's apathetic to most people but he'd probably would wanna be a lawyer or ER doctor so he can help people in their times of need. He's a sap at heart, really.

Rycharde - Any kind of first responder, hands down. He would've lost his family to an illness, so he wants to prevent that from happening to anyone else. I see him living in a more rural area on a farm with a big dog. Probably also goes bouldering frequently to stay in shape as opposed to going to a gym.

Cere - She'd probably have a job as a secretary in an office building, but her true passion would be piloting. She loves to be in the air (since she's an air elemental in the main story,) and also loves ornithology. She'd save up to go to an island in South America and just watch the birds. Lives in the New England region otherwise, most likely Connecticut or Massachusetts. Maybe even Rhode Island.

INFO / PLACES OF INTEREST

Sparia (Spare-ee-uh) - Your homeland, a highly traditional kingdom. Ruled by a monarch, with you as the heir to the throne. Magic is expected to be used only in ceremonial settings, and most citizens have never left the island. This is your old home.

Sacred Sea - A sea of legend, the Sacred Sea has perpetually calm waters. Rumor has it that when the waves stir up, disaster is about to befall the neighboring lands.

Solador - Notable locations: Dawnholde Institute for the Arcane. The land is constantly under a solar eclipse for an unknown reason. Very little flora can grow here.

Ormrgrad (Or-mer-grad) - Home to many dragonkin and ruled by the Emperor and Empress. The Emperor presides over the north, and the Empress, the south. Notable locations: Ormrgrad City, the capital. On the border of the north and south regions. Caidrith was born in the city to the royal family.

Northern Ormrgrad - Snowy and mountainous, few dragonkin make their home here, but the ones who do are very resilient. Many true dragons live in the far north.

Southern Ormrgrad - The desert region of Ormrgrad. Most dragonkin live here, as well as ground-dwelling dragons. Oases with settlements are scattered throughout.

Leodosan Wilds (Leo-doe-san) - A sparsely inhabited area with few cities, the Leodosan Wilds are home to most earth and water elementals. The few fae that reside outside the Fae Wilds are mainly benevolent, however, the farther south you travel, the more hostile the inhabitants become. Cere lived here prior to coming to Dawnholde.

Entrance to the Hells - The cave that leads to the first layer of the Hells. Many lesser infernals live in the tunnel network.

Fae Wilds - Birthplace of all fae creatures, though not all choose to stay there. The land is brimming with magic and the capital city is Islahaer.

Islahaer (Ee-la-hair) - The capital of the Fae Wilds. Many elves also live here, in addition to the few remaining humans from the Lost City of Echoport. Desily hails from here.

The Tainted Lands - Notable Locations: The Lost City of Echoport. An old, plague-ridden human kingdom. Few creatures live here now, and most of those who do are in constant quarantine. Rycharde was training to be a knight before the city closed its gates.

Lake of Lucidity - The lake in which all rivers in the area flow to.

Defiant Deep - The northern sea, filled with ancient monsters and deep sea merfolk. Few ships that set sail here reach their destination.

Ocean of Benevolence - Notable Locations: Merdae (Mer-day). The warmer, southern ocean that many civilized merfolk call home. Includes the royal capital, Merdae. Most merfolk in the capital are very rich, but the farther away from the capital they live, the less they have. Merrick comes from a small town 10 miles from the city.

NOT ON THE MAP

Aiszuth (Ice-zooth) - A run-of-the-mill human city with a thriving criminal underworld. The governor may appear to maintain power, but the true power belongs to the necromancers of the Undercity. Finch comes from the most renowned lineage of necromancers.
