Daisy sighed as flashbacks of winters at Hogwarts, a nostalgic smile on her face. She would trade anything to go back to those times at school, when the biggest problem awaiting her was whether she passed her Astronomy test or not. “I was always on high alert the moment the first snowflake hit the ground. Great times.”
The warmth Marlene had brought when she laid her head on Daisy’s shoulder was such a comforting gesture and she found herself lightly stroking Marlene’s hair. With things at the Order and her job, Daisy only hoped Marlene wouldn’t wear herself out. "I could only imagine, Florean’s must be packed this time of the year, hm? On the other hand, with no significant, err, events as of late—thank Merlin—everything at Mungo’s seems manageable enough.”
Marlene had missed the younger girl. It was impossible to be sad when Daisy was around but Marlene was definitely having a go at it. This Christmas had turned out to be one of the worst of her twenty years of life and that included the one when she was nine and she saw her mother’s boyfriend hit her. At least that one had ended happily, she couldn’t imagine this Christmas ending any other way than her being drunk and crying on her own.
“Well I thought it would unfair for me to join in, I’m such a pro at snowball fights. Do you remember what it was like at Hogwarts? Couldn’t set foot outside without someone throwing a snowball at you.” Marlene leant her head affectionately on her friend’s shoulder, letting her eyes close slightly and a huge sigh leaving her body. “I’ve been very busy, Daisy. What about you?”

“Oh!” Taking a step to the side so as not to block the sun, Daisy grinned apologetically at the man. “I'm sorry, it’s just that you have such a talent for it that I couldn’t help but stop and watch.” He seemed to be in an unpleasant mood, however, and she didn’t want to ruin his day further by wasting his time with how good he was since he probably already knew and/or didn’t even care what a stranger thought. “I hope you have a nice day,” she flashed him a sincere smile and settled down a bench right next to his, hoping it was enough space for him as there wasn’t any other vacant benches.
Open
“It’s called whittling,” he commented dryly, glancing up from the tiny, half carved figurine in his hand. When he chose the secluded bench of the park, he’d done so in order to be alone, but fate wasn’t on his side that morning. Despite the bitter cold brought in on the north winds, the grounds seemed to be bustling with a steady stream of people, one of which decided to pause by him to watch his work. “And, no, it’s not for sale.” He gave sarcastic little smile before looking back down at his hands. “Or is there something else you’re blocking my light for?”

“It was my fault, really. I really need to look where I’m going sometimes,” Daisy replied as she quickly bent down next to Dorcas to pick up whatever it was that Lucy had dropped. Too caught up in her conversation with Doe and agreeing that they indeed had to learn how to cook so they were at least sure w.hat they were putting in their bodies and, not to mention, much cheaper. But, alas, it was the holidays and one should never limit themselves when it came to food.
Grabbing the last of Lucy’s things, she straightened back up with the help of Lucy’s hand and beamed at the girl before attempting at a hug, her hands still occupied with the blonde’s stuff. It has been weeks since she’s seen her and was glad to run into her, albeit literally. ”Lucy, it’s been awhile. So nice to see you!” Upon releasing her however, she noticed that she was covering her lip. Furrowing her brows in concern, she turned to Dorcas, ever the trustworthy healer. “I hope it’s not too bad?”
Unfortunately for Doe, Christmas was finally over, which meant she had to wait another entire year for next Christmas. In her mind, this year had been a complete success. Everyone loved the gifts she had given them and she loved the gifts she received in return. Fortunately enough, she was able to savor the Christmas joy for another few nights until New Years was over.
This year, her New Years resolution (like most of the human population) was to start eating right. Not having the ability to cook anything caused a bit of a problem, but she eating take out 85% of the time was definitely not healthy. She was just explaining this to Daisy as they made their way down the busy sidewalk, when she accidentally bumped into someone, stumbling back a few paces as the other women.
“Oh Merlin…I’m so so sorry!” Dorcas gasped, her hand over her mouth when she saw the women fall. “Let me help you with these.” She said, kneeling down to help pick up the bags, finally realizing it was Lucy. They had lived together while in Hogwarts but hadn’t spoken in awhile. “Hey, goodness, I’m so so sorry!” She apologized again .

The moment Daisy laid eyes on this picture of the young Dorcas, she knew she just had to have a copy of it. It was just too adorable for her not to. It brought a smile on her face every time she saw the picture because it still looked so much like Doe now, even though her friend liked to believe otherwise.

Amelia looked so carefree and calm in this moment that Daisy couldn’t resist taking a picture. She looked different from the Amelia she has come to know and greatly respect during Order meetings and to see her with her shoulders relaxed and her eyes uncalculating was so refreshing for Daisy, because even the best of them had to let their hair down once in awhile.

Dirk,
These are lovely! I put on the bracelet as soon as I saw it and I’m not sure if I’m ever taking it off. To answer your question, I do like feathers, but I wonder if there’s a specific reason you thought of a feather-themed set for me? Nevertheless, it was a nice surprise and I truly love the trinkets.
My apologies for being a bit scarce as of late. Poor Mrs. Wood, my fellow Welcome Witch, has been ill and I’ve been working double shifts at the hospital. I will, however, be at Hogwarts and Sirius’ for the holiday celebrations. I’m looking forward to seeing you there and catching up.
Again, thank you so much for the gifts and remembering my birthday. I miss you too.
Until then, Daisy

Daisy,
Happy 20th birthday! I’d say that you’re catching up to me, but that’s not quite how age works, is it? I didn’t get you much - a few trinkets, really. I hope you like feathers? I can’t believe I didn’t check - bloody hell, Dirk, what in the world were you thinking??
Anyhow, all the best. I’m sure this year is going to be wonderful. Not sure what your plans for Christmas are looking like, I know that there’s a party at Hogwarts and Sirius is having a dinner. Hopefully I’ll see you then, yeah? Feels like it’s been a while. I miss you!
Yours,
Dirk

Daisy! It’s your birthday, and I can hardly believe it! You’re twenty now, so that means you’re two years away from being as old as me, but as still as young at heart as you’ve always been. I grew you some charmed daisies (along with a few other flowers, but the daisies are the most important right now) - I made some changes to their genetic makeup myself! After cut, they’re supposed to stay alive a lot longer than muggle flowers, so you’ll probably have them up until next year. But by next year, I’ll already have more grown for your twenty-first birthday, so you don’t have to worry about getting them replaced.
Come by around Christmas, yeah? I’ll make you some tea and we’ll have some biscuits. It’ll be grand, I promise.
With ardor and affection, Holly
Dearest Holly,
You’re the sweetest! Everything’s been so busy that I almost forgot that it was already my birthday! Thank you so much for remembering.
The daisies are absolutely beautiful (like everything in your shoppe is, which reminds me, I need to visit soon!) and very much appreciated. I have put them in a vase and am amazed and delighted to know that these will last me up until the next year. Now all I have to do is look at it whenever I’m missing you.
Tea and biscuits sound like a great idea. Thank you so much for the invitation and the flowers. They have brightened up my home, just as much as you have my life.
Lots of love, Daisy

Daisy’s uncertain if he was saying that to simply be nice, but she appreciates it nonetheless. It wasn’t always that she voiced her musings, but he has made it so easy. Letting out whatever thought she thinking felt natural. Either that or the alcohol was starting to do its magic. “I wonder,” she thinks out loud yet again, “what it is that made you stop thinking that way.”
She watches as he gets a shotglass for himself and pours another drink, his former glass in front of her, still waiting for her to empty its contents. She figures one more won’t hurt so she shrugs to herself and drinks it. He was right, the liquid slid down her throat much easier than the previous one and she only manages a small wince this time.
Somehow, when she hears his name, all she can picture are little rabbits and he looks anything but and she finds this the funniest thing in the world. She bursts out laughing before she can stop herself, covering her mouth because of how rude she might seem when it was such a nice name and she was sure it was short for something wonderful. Yet now all Daisy could picture were bunny ears on top of his head and enormous front teeth. It’s rather adorable.
“I’m so sorry! I just had this sudden image in my head and it had absolutely nothing to do with you.” She hopes that a little white lie would be enough to excuse her momentary blunder, because she would be utterly distressed if he found offense in her laughter. She holds up her hand, finally able to contain herself as she beams at him. “It’s an absolute pleasure to be drinking with you, Rab.”
A shrug is Rabastan’s answer to Daisy; a small smile still playing on his lips, “Not at all. I used to wonder that myself.” Years ago, maybe, before he had realized thinking about it was hardly productive.
His smirk grows almost proud when he sees her refill her shotglass. Ah, and there we have it ladies and gentlemen, an inebriate in the making. At least, he likes to think that to himself. That rather reminds him that he should be well on his own way to getting utterly pissed as well. Getting himself another shotglass, he drags back his bottle for a moment to refill the tiny drinking glass with the clear liquid- and at least his hand-eye coordination is still good, since none of it spills anywhere. At least, none he can see. Unless he’s already drunk enough that he’s not seeing it, he considers.
He blinks as she introduces herself. Daisy. His first thought is just that it suits her. It’s a pretty name, in the way that simple things are pretty, and he thinks it rings better than most of the names he’s acquainted with (then again, Purebloods, what could you expect. They had the strangest names, himself included).
And then, wait. She had introduced herself.
“-Well, I think I’ve been rather impolite as well,” a tilt of his head, a sheepish grin- “You can call me Rab.”
Rab is an odd name to introduce yourself with, but, as he reasons, probably not as odd as Rabastan. Besides, it wasn’t that odd, surely, because then there were always the people who knew… mythology, or something and kept on confusing Rabastan with Rastaban if he introduced himself. How that was even possible he wasn’t sure- was that even a name? Though for once, possibly due to the inebriation, he can almost see how that works.
“Daisy, that’s a nice name.” With a smile, he decidedly short circuits from his rather disturbing thoughts, and looks back at her, “It’s a pleasure.”

“Yes, that most certainly might be the case,” Daisy agreed with a laugh as she tried to catch her breath. It had been quite awhile since she and Marlene had been alone together, yet it was most definitely unintentional in Daisy’s case. So when she spotted the older girl sitting on a bench when the snowball fight was dwindling down, she had decided to join Marlene to remedy that fact. Raising her hands in surrender at the little kids who were aiming their snowballs at her, she had made her way over to the blonde and hoped she wasn’t intruding.
“I never expected you to sit out a snowball fight, Marls. With you there, I could’ve stood a chance against those tots.” She was jesting, of course, bumping her shoulder lightly with Marlene’s so she knew she was. Her cheeks were flushed from the cold, yet there was a permanent smile on her face. “How have you been?”
Marlene had sat and watched the snowball fight unfold, raising a few brief smiles at particularly devious moves and when she saw Daisy join the fray. But despite the peals of laughter and the smiles on everyone’s face, all Marlene could see were flashes of green light and all she could hear was the sound of screaming.
Children, playing at war.
But she refocused her mind when Daisy sat down next to her, and she once again managed a smile. If anyone deserved to be happy, it was someone like Daisy, who brought joy with her no matter where she went. It had felt like too long since she’d kept the company of the blonde and so she put away her own melancholy about the holidays, about the future and about her mother, and concentrated on her companion.
“Well, it was probably the last time we spent any time together.”
