this is a comic my dear friend @wolf-aid had made using batman both because he’s a very dear character to me and because we are hoping that a popular character will bring more attention to the comic itself.

the comic says most of what i can say already — but i’ll say it again. ibrahim is an incredibly sweet young man who i’ve been close friends with for a few months now. he and his family need help to be warm, to eat, to get medicine, and to survive — hopefully soon they can escape their awful circumstances.

rainstorms have flooded tents and destroyed belonging to palestinians making them more vulnerable to the cold. these tents contained the meager belongings that people were able to take with them before being displaced.

unfortunately, amal ashour was one of the people who's tent was flooded. she has a baby girl who is very vulnerable to the cold. she has lost most of her possessions and has to buy a lot of supplies to ensure her family's well-being and safety. the prices of everyday goods has increased astronomically. this is very important as amal needs money to replace the things she lost and to buy formula for her child.

This flour, which is supposed to be a source of life, has become a symbol of disappointment. I contemplated the scene with a pang in my chest; the scene was not new, but it grew more cruel each time. How can we make clean bread for our children from flour filled with insects?

Gaza is not only a besieged land, but it is a place where hope is killed day after day, even in the most basic human rights. We were waiting for this flour impatiently as if it were a precious treasure, but it came to remind us that everything in our lives is now conditional on new suffering.

I looked at the flour again, and imagined the children in Gaza, who dream of a hot loaf of bread on their poor tables. A simple loaf that they do not know that the path to it is fraught with pain and disappointment.

I wrote these words to tell you the story of flour, but it is not just flour; it is part of the story of Gaza, the story of every mother who struggles, every child who waits, and every young man who dreams of a better tomorrow in a land that refuses to surrender despite everything.

I am Abdel Qader, writing from Gaza, from the heart of the suffering that is trying to steal our dignity, but we stay here, dreaming, and resisting.
