A completely AUTHORIZED Tumblr group for fans of ThanFiction's Daydverse which started with "Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness" and expanded to include two more novels and countless one-shots and other media. If Ernie/Susan makes you tear up, if you know Colin Creevey was so much more than a fanboy and why we need heads, the Diabhal Dubh has given you nightmares, if you know who Renny Runcorn is and why he was brave, if you're eager to find out who sent the ravens...you're in the right place. The three circles on the right will take you, in order, to the three cornerstone novels of the series: Dumbledore's Army and the Year of Darkness, Sluagh, and A Peccatis. Read or reread, then come back and join the fun.

So I read DAYD and Slaugh both about 4-5 times each, and I absolutely adore your word that you've created. However, the story I'm fascinated by is A Peccatis. It intrigues me more and more everytime I read it. I think it's a pretty logical and reasonable explanation as to what might happen in the wizarding world after the war. I can't wait until you post the next chapter, whenever it comes out. Also, my favorite character from the DAYD-verse is Justin. Do you have a facecast for him?
Henry Cavill is the facecast I usually use for older Justin; but not the super-buff post-Superman version. More circa the Tudors. And thank you!

After DAYD: Top 10 Daydverse Oneshots
Recently had a conversation with a reader who had just finished Dumbledore’s Army and the Year of Darkness and was curious about the expanded universe, but didn’t know where in the over 100 one-shots to start, nor which ones were spoiler-free since she hadn’t read the sequel novel (Sluagh) yet and wasn’t ready to undertake such a large work. She asked for some recs, and I was originally typing this up just for her, but I figured I might as well make a post of it, because I know that a lot of people have only read DAYD but might be interested in following those characters further…so here are my top 10, in no particular order, all of which contain spoilers only for DAYD:
1. Underpinnings Lavender’s POV. Following after her assault in chapter 13, it’s a portrait of a girl literally coming apart at the seams but trying to maintain a strong front.
2. Just Desserts Lily Potter’s POV. Technically takes place 17 years before the events of DAYD, but it’s within the same universe. Lily meets up with an old friend and discovers that for all that’s changed, some of the most important things haven’t.
3. Turning the Tide Colin’s POV. Takes place during the beginning of the Battle of Hogwarts, following Colin as he gathers the reinforcements to lead the younger DA back to the castle.
4. Firewalkers Lavender’s POV. Set between chapters 5 and 6 while Ginny, Neville, and Luna were in custody after the failed attempt on the Sword of Gryffindor, Lavender discovers that she and Seamus have more in common than she’d imagined, and that you can know someone for six years and not know them at all.
5. The Miri Factor Colin’s POV. One of the pieces of writing I’m proudest of. Follows the events of Christmas break ‘96 (chapter 10) as Colin attempts to return home with his brother, only to discover that sometimes in war, there’s no going back.
6. Wisdom To Know The Difference McGonagall’s POV. After the flogging in chapter 3, Minerva faces a challenge to her authority by an angry student. Sometimes the most important lessons don’t take place in the classroom.
7. Crossing Lines Anthony’s POV. After the battle of Hogwarts, Anthony has to deal with what he’s lost physically…but also call on the courage he’s gained to confess the truth about his feelings for a fellow survivor.
8. Praeclarus Merde Michael’s POV. With Amycus Carrow attempting to track down the members of the DA who were at Hagrid’s ill-fated Support Harry Potter party, Mike and Terry use their unique bond to buy time for their friends with profoundly Ravenclaw panache.
9. Standing Witness Terry’s POV. Having made a heartbreaking choice in the name of mercy in chapter 18, Terry faces losing his other half, and more frightening still, confronting himself.
10. A Real War Zach’s POV. In chapter 18, Zach’s choice to leave the DA seemed to his classmates a betrayal that came out of nowhere, but he never meant to abandon their cause. This story is the discussion with his father about the hard choices of growing up that lead to his decision.
Honorable Mention: The 20 Random Facts Series These aren’t exactly stories; they’re really character studies, glimpses into the people who didn’t get as much screen time but are still fully-fleshed in my head whom I wanted to share with the reader. Some of these contain spoilers for Sluagh and the later portions of the series, but the ones that are DAYD-friendly are bolded. Stephen Cornfoot, Li Goldstein, Luna Lovegood, Sally-Anne Perks, Draco Malfoy, Hannah Longbottom, Derek Adams, Anthony Goldstein, Zacharias Smith, Susan Macmillan, Demelza Robins, Rowan Glynnis, Icarus Utterson, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Jack Sloper, Jimmy Peaks, Michael Corner, Lavender Brown, Ernie Macmillan, Seamus Finnigan, Terry Boot, Colin Creevey

An Overdue Apology
This is, almost entirely, a space for the Daydverse itself, and I try to keep my personal shit in my personal blogging spaces. When it comes to not inundating those of you who are just here for Renny and Susan and Mike and Terry with cooking and randomness and other fandoms, that's probably a good thing. But there's something else that I've been trying to tell myself is "enough" to be said over there, but it's not. It needs to be said here.
I'm mentally ill. Pretty fucking severely. I finally got pinned down, diagnosed, and went into proper, intensive, medicated treatment in the summer of 2012, and while I'm now in recovery, for a lot of the history of the Daydverse, I was reeeeeeeeallly fucking far on the scale of delusional schizoid disorders and didn't even know it. When they say that often the craziest ones don't know they're crazy, they're fucking right.
For those of you who just enjoy the books and the stories and the art and the community, this frankly doesn't really matter or impact you, but now you know. For others, though, who were my personal friends, it's pretty fucking relevant. For those of you who were close enough to know the truth - that I believed not only that the Daydverse characters existed, but that I could "channel" their disembodied souls and basically be possessed by them as part of an entire friggin' X-man movie's worth of superpowers I believed I had as part of being on a mission from God (holy shit how I wish ANY of that was kidding) - you're the reason I'm posting this.
That I believed it doesn't change in any way that what I was doing was wrong and incredibly fucked up and that it lead to some really, really damaging and fucked up relationships. I hurt people, in some cases badly, sometimes as myself, sometimes as others. I cut people off because of things that my delusions told me, and some of you (wisely) cut ME off when it went too far. I'm not going to name names because I understand how some of you might not other people to know you were involved that deep in my crazy and just want it to go away and are glad that I've basically dropped off this part of the planet for the last eighteen months while I've been trying to unravel my head.
I have tried to individually and privately contact those I know I hurt (who haven't told me to fuck off and never contact them again) and apologize, but recently, I saw someone who described themselves as an "ex-Daydian" say that I'd hurt them, and it was someone I would never have listed among those ranks. This made me realize that not only am I in absolutely no position to judge who I did and didn't wrong in my deeply erroneous belief that I was communicating with some alternate dimension where it was all real and sharing some divinely ordained destiny, giving voice to the spirits and stories of real heroes and villains living and dead, but the very fact that those 'possessions' left me with huge blank holes in my memory means that I literally don't know what I did or didn't do in a lot of cases, and I theoretically could easily have many more victims among the Daydians than I know.
Causing pain to even one of you is the last fucking thing I have ever wanted. Even in the depths of my batshit, my intent was to hopefully cause positive change in your lives...and yeah, entertain you a little while making you think. I genuinely care about every single one of you, and it grieves me deeply to understand that intentions mean shit in that I HAVE hurt an unknown number of you past and present. There are a few of you I love so much and know how much of a betrayal this is that it's literally reduced me to sobbing in shame and guilt too hard to have been able to tell you directly yet, so I've been hoping you'd see it somewhere and now I guess this is that somewhere.
I'm here to apologize. I am sorry. Deeply, unreservedly, profoundly sorry and ashamed. You gave me trust and love and friendship and my own damned fandom, and for many of you who deserved it least and gave me most and loved my stories the deepest, I pissed crazy all over you and your lives and I'm not even going to pretend I know how much damage I did. If you don't want anything more to do with me or the 'verse, that's ok. I don't expect your forgiveness, your 'loyalty,' or anything else. If you want to talk about it more or want a personal or direct apology - and I am absolutely extending them to ANYONE who feels like they want one regardless of how close we are/were or aren't/weren't or how, if relevant, things ended between us - let me know here if you want it in public and in a private message, email, or text (my phone number is 757-634-7195) if you want it privately. If you know anyone who has left the fandom whom you feel should see this message, feel free to pass it on, especially if they were "inner circle" who ended badly.
I don't think I can undo it, but I want to do what I can to make amends and do whatever the people I hurt think is most appropriate to what would be best for them now.

I've seen a lot of families over the years absolutely devasted over the sudden loss of their teenager and it really leaves me feel for the parents of the lost DA. I think my heart breaks whenever post-BOH Elaine Corner or the MacMillans are mentioned. It also makes me wonder if there was any who never recovered from the grief or who blamed Neville and/or Harry for what went on that night.
To be entirely blunt, not a single parent who lost their child that night ever fully recovered from it. You do not fully recover from losing a child. You sure as fuck do not recover from losing a child whom you thought was in a relatively safe place under trusted care that suddenly and violently. Think school shooting, combine that with a terrorist attack, and then imagine discovering that your kids had known about the terrorists all along - some of whom were teaching at the school - and had formed an underground army because they legitimately believed that a mass suicide pact would be the only way to make you and the rest of the adult population give any shits.
Some of them coped better than others…of the families you mentioned, to be honest, Fiona and Duncan poured everything into Susan and Cecily (and went from annoyed acceptance to overwhelming gratitude that Ernie had married and impregnated her before he died) and did as well as could ever be expected, whereas Elaine (who had also lost her husband to homicide in December of ‘96 and for whom Terry was essentially another son) spiraled into horrific PTSD and depression for several years and eventually committed suicide. And she wasn’t the only one who lost multiple family members. The Patils lost both their daughters, Andromeda Tonks lost her sister, her husband, her daughter, her son-in-law, and her brother-in-law, Joe Creevey lost his brother, daughter-in-law, and both nephews and never even got a good answer as to why, the Vances lost two of their three sons, etc.
And some blame Neville, but not many, because those close enough to blame him can see clearly enough that he’s as fucked up as their kids are if not more, and that he loves them so, so much and would have died for any one of them and died a little with all of them. Fewer blame Harry because he wasn’t there until the end as far as they know and he ended it and couldn’t have possibly done it sooner as far as they know. Most of the Harry-blaming is from inside the DA survivors themselves. Most of the parents blame the faculty, because those are the people they gave their kids to with the expectation of getting them back, and most of them survived. No, that’s not fair.
It’s also not fair that even those whose children lived still, effectively, lost their kids that night. The people they got back were physically and mentally wounded soldiers, hugely traumatized in ways the system was completely unprepared to help with, entire volumes of trust issues of anyone who resembled an authority figure outside the DA, and more than a smattering of cult mentality. It’s not fair that the deaths traceable right back to that night kept trickling in for a decade. It was a disaster and a horrible, horrible tragedy, because you cannot say “and 50 more” when you’re talking about dead in a school and then say “all was well.”
Because it’s not. And it can’t be. And it won’t be.
But they will and do find a way anyway, because that’s the beauty and the horror of the world and the indomitable spun glass fragile adamantium people in it.

Hello there, I was wondering if its ok to ask a DAYD thing, in Wisdom to know the difference professor McGonagall shows Seamus her scars and I was hoping you might be willing to share a little more with us about how she came to be there as Operation Moonlight Sonata broke loose? Thank you and I hope the week (and those after) are kind to you.
In Chapter 7 of DAYD, we learn a little about Minerva’s backstory:
"You may wish to think about taking the same care with Miss Abbott that Harry has taken with Miss Weasley. I know that at times like these, young people tend to want to cling to each other all the more for fear of loss, and that is a perfectly understandable impulse. Last time You-Know-Who was in power, there were a dozen weddings within a week of each graduation, and you could scarcely see my desk through the birth announcements each time the owls came." He wondered if she knew about Ernie and Susan, but there was no hint of it in her expression. "I was a bit of a war bride myself."
Neville blinked incredulously. “You?”
"He was a Muggle-Born. A Gryffindor, like myself, and he chose to join the RAF – that’s a branch of the Muggle military – after his brother was killed in the Battle of Britain. I married him less than three hours after we’d finished our N.E.W.T. tests, and I lost him over the North Sea five weeks later." McGonagall’s voice was matter-of-fact, but there was something deep in her eyes that hinted at a wound never fully healed. "I have no place to judge such things, but I want you to consider that your situation is rather different from most. Any wizard or witch in this school may lose their lives in the coming months, but you and Harry have chosen to take on an even more dangerous position. Even if it does not come to a showdown with You-Know-Who, you have still made a target of yourself through…other choices."
In “Wisdom to Know The Difference,” we learn that she is 74 in 1997. She graduated (and got immediately married) in 1940. Her brother-in-law and husband were both casualties of the war that summer. They were from Coventry, and she had been living there with their family because hers was less than thrilled about her marriage and there hadn’t been time for her and her husband to set up a home of their own. She stayed even after the notification that she’d been widowed, in part because she had nowhere else to go, in part because she genuinely had become emotionally invested in the war effort, and in part because she felt superstitiously like if she left and started trying to rebuild her life, it would destroy the last meager chances of possibly finding him alive.
When Operation Moonlight Sonata crested on November 14, she was working as a hospital volunteer, “sorting” donations of medical supplies…or sneakily transfiguring things that were useless into things they most needed as she sorted. It wasn’t Coventry’s first bombing, so in the beginning, she followed standard protocol, but when things went to hell, she wrapped her face in a wet rag and a subtle filtering charm and ran out into the worst of the hell in the hopes that a witch might be able to save people that Muggles couldn’t.
Gryffindor head of house, guys.
She did, actually. She saved over a dozen people who otherwise would have been beyond hope, using magic sometimes secretly, sometimes completely bloody openly in the knowledge that anyone who saw would dismiss it as a trick of the flames or an adrenaline hallucination or maybe even seeing an Angel of God. By the early hours of the morning, though, she was exhausted, physically and magically, but she wouldn’t stop, and the heat was so intense and she was already in so much pain and shock from several lesser burns and strained muscles and there was so much fire everywhere that she literally didn’t notice that she’d caught fire until one of her fellow rescue workers threw water on her. At which point she passed the fuck out.
She woke up in a Muggle hospital, with no one having come to claim her and second and third degree burns all over her arms and torso. It was weeks before she was strong enough to get out, and she soon discovered why she’d been “abandoned.” Her in-laws’ flat was a smoking crater, and they were both missing, presumed dead. She made her way to St. Mungos, only to be crisply dismissed and told that they were only taking life-threatening cases and her burns were healed enough already and she’d have to live with the scars.
She tried to go back to the war effort, but the sound of planes put her into a flat panic attack and violent flashbacks, and as a witch, it was too dangerous. So she went to the only place she could think of - Hogwarts - and asked her old Transfiguration teacher if she could apprentice.

FICEPTION! Daydverse fanfic by Daydians
Congratulations! You’re completely unhinged and have finished all 1,000,000+ words of the Daydverse that I’ve written! All 2.6 novels and 100+ oneshots! Maybe you’re even obsessive bold enough to have gone for the meta! Nothing left to do but haunt my Tumblr and wait for me to write more, right?
WRONG!
As in any other fandom, when you run out of canon, you turn to the fanfic (or make your own)! So here, without further adieu, is all the Daydverse fanfic I know of that has been written by Daydians over the last 6 years, sorted by character. And yes, these are the Daydverse versions, so you’ll be getting your Demiguise-farming Ernie, your mind-reading Ravenclaws, Renny Runcorn and Rowan Glynnis, though there has, as with any fandom, been a bit of Jossing here and there. Enjoy, and feel more than free to add to the lot!

We’re cutting one kind of subsidized food — food stamps — at a time when Gallup finds that almost one-fifth of American families struggled in 2013 to afford food. Meanwhile, we ignore more than $12 billion annually in tax subsidies for corporate meals and entertainment. Sure, food stamps are occasionally misused, but anyone familiar with business knows that the abuse of food subsidies is far greater in the corporate suite. Every time an executive wines and dines a hot date on the corporate dime, the average taxpayer helps foot the bill.

speaking of queer content in the daydverse if you don't mind, at the end of dayd with gwenog jones, was that supposed to be something with rowan?
I assume you’re talking about this?
He found Gwenog Jones in the crowd and lead her over to where Rowan lay, and the tough athlete wept as she placed a gentle kiss on the young witch’s cold lips, then took off her own team robes and wrapped them around the strong, broken shoulders.
No, it’s not a sexual act, if that’s what you’re asking, and there was no sexual relationship previously between them, but it is absolutely an act of love and a respectful acknowledgement of Rowan’s sexuality.
Earlier in the story, we’ve seen that Rowan is a tremendous Gwenog fangirl with a wide open, unashamed crush. Gwenog never knew her personally, but she’s a very prominent celebrity athlete (she has never made an official statement about her sexuality, but she presents very queer and is aware of how she is perceived), and she knows damned well what she means to young queer girls and how many letters she’s been flooded with.
She’s flown like the damned all night trying to save these kids’ lives, and she gets there at dawn with a thousand reinforcements, only to find a hall full of heart-shatteringly young bodies. Their commander (sweet God, how can that be their commander, he’s so young!) takes her aside, asks a favor. There’s this girl, she trained all the other witches, their drill sergeant, saved all their lives, really, by getting them ready, and fought to the death to save Ginny’s. Her name was Rowan, and I don’t want to impose, but she was a huge fan of yours, she loved you more than anything, had a wicked crush, and I just thought maybe…I’m sorry, ma’am, if I’m — but I think she’d have appreciated if….
And she follows, and there, between a boy with his hands burned black and a leg missing and a girl with a pink nightgown that’s had her entrails yanked through the fairy design on the front is a girl who looks like she’s gone fifty rounds with a cement mixer before taking on hell. Even with her cheekbone shattered, teeth broken, face burnt and pulverized, she couldn’t be more than sixteen on the outside, her hair buzzed, jaw strong, shoulders corded with thousands of hours of work on the pitch. Hufflepuff tank top, Harpies pajama pants with her own signature down the leg and her own number on the hip, one bare foot, one filthy Harpies sock, a hair ribbon that’s more femme than could ever be hers tied around one wrist like a knight’s token and matching the one missing from the other braid of the girl with her guts on her thighs.
Yes, she weeps. Yes, she gives her her team robes. Yes, she kisses her - on the mouth, like a woman whose sexuality was valid and honored, not on the cheek or forehead like a child - because it’s respect, it’s love, and it’s you were me, you could have been me, you should have been me. You’re still beautiful, still strong, and I won’t forget you. Fuck who gets the merchandise, baby, you’re a star. I wish I could have seen you fly.

1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest in a second edition, so if you'd rather I wait and plan it for the fall, please let me know. 2. So far, I've got 3 votes for addendum rather than a full 2nd edition publication. Anyone else want to be heard? 3. I will still collect new recipes until Saturday, March 29th. Please send them to [email protected] or message me.
