Check Your Android Version, Millions of Cellphones Are Threatened To No longer Can Access the Internet Starting in 2021
Tumblr media
Millions of Android cellphone users with old operating systems will no longer be able to run internet websites starting in 2021.
This is because there is a problem that arises around the SSL certificate being used to display HTTPS websites correctly.
Quoted by oxibox from Metro.co.uk, in its latest certification policy, Let's Encrypt reveals users of Android 7.1.1 or Android Nougat and below must immediately update their operating system to the latest Android because the old certification will no longer be valid.

"The DST Root X3 root certificate that we rely on to help us get started will expire on September 1, 2021. Fortunately, we are ready to stand alone, and rely solely on our own root certificate," explains Let's Encrypt on its blog.
"However, this does raise some compatibility issues. Some software that hasn't been updated since 2016 still doesn't trust our root certificates," they added.
That way Android users running Nougat software will start having problems starting September 1, 2021.

The only workable solution is the Mozilla Firefox browser which uses its own certificate store and can bypass the problem.
Many leading Android manufacturers will keep abreast of software updates, but this can still catch the millions of old Android phones around the world that ignore updates.
The Android Nougat operating system was previously launched in 2016. Let's Encrypt about 33.8 percent of Android users on the Google Play Store run an operating system older than Android Nougat.

You can check the Android system type by going to Settings>About Phone>double tap on the word 'Android Version'.***
