The Incredible Hulk Volume 1 Issue 4
Alright so in the last issue I stated how it felt like the early Hulk comics felt like two separate issues trying to be combined into one. Well in this issue they actually make two separate story lines and combine it into one comic. Anyway let's begin.
Tumblr media
We start in Bruce Banner's lab with Rick Jones and the Hulk. Rick Jones is trying to turn the Hulk back to Bruce Banner via a machine. Recently it's been pretty hard on Bruce changing back and forth between the Hulk and himself. We then cut to Betty Ross who is starting to figure out the there is a connection between Rick Jones, Bruce Banner, and the Hulk. I really appreciate that they had Betty realize this. She then races to her father General Ross. Who is testing a new missile on a Hulk dummy. She then tells her father what she's discovered and he happily agrees to get a hold of Rick Jones so that he can defeat the Hulk.
We then cut to several soldiers outside Banner's cabin ready to capture Rick Jones and possibly Banner. Rick tells the Hulk to flee, since the Hulk is still under Rick's mind control somehow. Then Rick is captured and questioned by General Ross and Betty. The Hulk on the other hand wrecks some havoc through the city, as well as a Hollywood production, and then the production crew tries to stop him. Hulk uses his super clap for the first time and escapes the assailants. He then finds the army jeep holding Rick and easily rescues him by leaping away into the wilderness.
We then finally cut back to the beginning of the comic with Rick trying to return the Hulk to Bruce Banner. He does so with the machine, and Bruce is left very weak after the ordeal. In which case he tells Rick that he can't be weak. So he straps himself back into the machine and turns back into the Hulk, but this time the Hulk has the mind of Bruce Banner. I wouldn't really say if this is smart Hulk, id say this is more like Bruce in Hulk's body. Anyway this new Hulk form goes to save a family in a burning house but they end up shooting at him, and we find out that this version of Hulk, or Banner, although having Banner's mind and mannerisms gets angry very easily. After this Hulk and Rick return home and the Bruce returns to his normal form and the two rest. That's all for this half of the story now on to the next half.
Tumblr media
Alright in the second half of this issue an Alien known as Mongu descends onto earth. He calls out for a challenger and Bruce Banner and Rick Jones just so happen to be watching Bruce then takes the form of the Hulk yet again and goes to face this new foe. Hulk and Rick descend on the alien known as Mongu as they are surrounded by Russian soldiers. We then find out that Mongu is actually a mech suit piloted by a Russian named Boris Monguski. The Hulk easily fights off the Russian soldiers, destroying their ships and the Mongu suit. He the. Captures them by tying them together with all of their belts. Then as the U.S. Military surrounds the Russian soldiers we see Hulk return to the form of Bruce Banner
Alright so I really like that they split these stories into two for this issue. I feel like it really helped with the pacing of both. Though it looks like in the next issue that this will not continue. Oh well on to the character analysis.
Tumblr media
The Hulk, technically the Hulk's personality was absent in the issue, since he was either under Rick's mind control, or it was Bruce Banners mind in the Hulk's body, but not in a smart Hulk kind of way. Though I like to think everytime Bruce got angry it was the Hulk trying to regain control. I hope he does because it's a shame not having him, I miss the big green guy.
Tumblr media
Bruce Banner, I really enjoyed him in this issue. I also understand where he's getting at with him not being as strong as the Hulk and wanting to be. So he has Rick turn him back but in a change of fate he takes on the Hulk's form but his mind and personality stay the same. I think as long as the trope continues I will be doing the Hulk and Bruce Banner as one single entity until the personalities split.
Tumblr media
Rick Jones has grown so much in the past few comics, he was an annoying kid to a pretty decent sidekick. I can't wait to see how he continues to grow and develop over time.
Tumblr media
Betty Ross got so much needed character development in this issue, albeit only briefly. I adore the fact that she's the one to realize the connection between Hulk, Rick Jones, and Bruce Banner, and that Rick Jones is the connecting link between the other two. I can't wait to see more growth from her.
Tumblr media
General Ross, I love this character I love his pure hatred and determination for wanting to capture the Hulk, and that he comes up with the most cartoonish ways to capture him, like an ice missile. So far the best reoccurring antagonist. General Ross you have my heart.
Tumblr media
Mongu, or Boris Monguski, yes I realize that technically this isn't a true antagonist or character, and that he also calls in the Russian Military to help him fight the Hulk. I just love that Russia invented this whole mech suit to trick the Hulk into fighting them. I love it.
Alright so that looks like the end for this comic, next issue we see the Hulk go up against a figure known as Tyrannus. Until next time true believers, Excelsior!

The Incredible Hulk Volume 1 Issue 3
In the previous issue The Hulk and Bruce Banner battled Toad Men from space. Well in this one a certain General is going to try and banish Hulk into space. Let's see what happens in this incredible issue.
Tumblr media
Our story begins with the Hulk entrapped in the bunker that Bruce Banner and Rick Jones set up for the Hulk. After the Hulk is safely inside Rick Jones heads home to get some much needed rest until he is surrounded by Military Police.
General Ross and the military then trick Rick Jones into luring the Hulk towards them. Where Rick lures him straight into a rocket the General Ross then sends straight into space. Hoping to banish the Hulk in the void forever. Side Note I'm really glad this idea has taken place so early on in the Hulk's run. Later this will also happen and cause the events of world war Hulk.
While in space Hulk turns back into Bruce Banner, and Rick Jones decides to save his friend. Using a control panel to bring the ship back down. During its descent though the ship takes on radiation turning Banner back into the Hulk.
The Hulk goes to attack Rick thinking the teenager willingly betrayed him and is getting ready to crush the boy when Rick finds out he has some kind of mental control over the Hulk. The two enter a small town where Rick loses control over the Hulk and he begins to attack innocent people. Rick Jones then tells the Hulk that they must leave when he uses his super jump to transport himself and Rick Jones to the bunker that acts as Hulk's prison.
Well then a circus starts showing up at towns but these towns all end up being robbed. It's pretty easy to tell that it's the circus doing this and it's all being done by the Ringmaster via Hypnosis.....wait a minute we've already done this with Fanatic Four issue 3. Wow the parallels are insane. Anyway we witness the circus rob a town blind before heading on towards their next town.
That town is the very town Rick Jones lives in, he is then hypnotized by the Ringmaster while he attends the circus. While this happens it sends a mental signal to the Hulk who rushes towards Rick's aid. He effortlessly takes down several performers before being doused by a house and chained up.
The Hulk becomes an act for the circus while he is also kind controlled, but Rick calls out to him breaking the Hypnosis. Hulk utterly trashes the place, even hitting an elephant at one point. General Ross and the military show up eventually and seemingly arrest the Ringmaster. Whilst Hulk leaps away with Rick Jones.
Again I really like this comic it's really fun and gave me a laugh seeing the parallels to the Fantastic Four. Though the story set up is odd it always feels like two different stories that they have to come up with some ideas to have the two mesh easily. Anyway on to the character analysis.
Tumblr media
Hulk, although for a lot of the issue he is under some form of mind control by Rick Jones I still love the character. He's getting new abilities and is able to get some more personality before being hypnotized somehow. Still my favorite in the series.
Tumblr media
Bruce Banner, even less screentime this time, though he's still a decent character. Albeit a lot of his presence is through flashbacks. He stays the same for me character wise.
Tumblr media
Rick Jones honestly has done so much better these past few issues. He's great, really starting to care for others and actually being useful by some how mentally controlling the Hulk, but he's gotten much better in my opinion.
Tumblr media
General Thunderbolt Ross is by far my favorite villain this series. Like his group of soldiers are there to do bomb tests not trying to capture the Hulk m. Still love this character more and more each issue.
Tumblr media
The Ringmaster and his circus. Honestly a super fun villain I always love that. I always imagine them grabbing a light drink with their respective heroes every once and awhile. The Ringmaster is great from his suit to his small role. Anyway a pretty great villain.
You may have noticed that Betty Ross wasn't in this post, and I think that's fine she wasn't in this issue.
Tumblr media
I do not own the images above they are property of Marvel comics.

The Incredible Hulk Volume 1 Issue 2.
In the previous issue we where introduced to Dr Bruce Banner, and the Incredible Hulk. This issue we return to the Dr and his other half as they face the terror of the Toad Men, let's begin shall we?
Tumblr media
Our issue begins with the Hulk in a swamp, being found by some local towns police force. Upon his discovery the Hulk then rampages throughout the town. Before any major damage can be done Rick Jones, the teenager Bruce Banner saved, steps out to help the Hulk taking him to Dr Banners house whilst we get a recap of last issue.
While this is going we cut to a group of toad like aliens who are searching for someone or something. Also side note, this is the second series that in the second issue our protagonist has encountered aliens, first the Skrulls for the Fantastic Four, now the Toad Men for the Hulk, I just find it interesting.
Anyway we then see that Rick Jones and Bruce Banner are in search of an area to hide away the Hulk so that he doesn't harm anyone. We then get a visit from General Thunderbolt Ross and Betty Ross. Who warn him that the Hulk was previously spotted in the area. Bruce and Rick continue on finding a cave with a bunker strong enough to contain the Hulk.
While they begin their excavation they are then trapped by the Toad Men. They are then beamed up to the ship where the Toad Men tell Bruce that they will force him to work for them. He refuses as Rick is beamed back to earth. After this Bruce once again begins his transformation.
The Hulk begins his attack on the Toad Men and their ship. Tearing it apart, and crushing any who get in his way. He ends up destroying the ship, crashing the ship into earth. This then brings the United States military towards the landing zone, but when they arrive the Hulk is nowhere to be found. In his place is Bruce Banner.
The Toad Men escape to report to their king about the Hulk, whilst Bruce is detained by General Ross. Rick Jones and Betty Ross all try to figure out how to rescue Bruce, or to get the General to believe that he is innocent but it is to no avail. Before anything else happens, a massive fleet of ships from the Toad Men arrive in Earth's atmosphere.
The Toad King makes contact telling the earth that he will hurl their moon towards the planet unless they surrender. General Ross is against this at all costs. Again while this is happening Bruce begins to take the form of the Hulk. He escapes his cell and hears for Betty Ross's house.
Once there the military and General Ross show up and begin attacking the Hulk. He defeats them and kidnaps Betty Ross. Taking her to Bruce Banners lab. Rick Jones also follows close behind. Betty ends up fainting as Rick and the Hulk confront one another, but midway the Hulk transforms back into Bruce Banner.
Bruce puts Betty to rest, before he and Rick head to his Gamma ray gun to defeat the Toad Men. While there the Military and General Ross have hunted down Banner. About to break down the door as Bruce fires the Ray gun into the fleet of Toad Men across the void of space. This clears Bruce's name, though he is nowhere to thank. For as the world has a moment of peace the Hulk is within the bunker that Bruce and Rick found, until he turns back to Bruce Banner.
So this issue was pretty fun. Though my biggest complaint is how the Toad Men are used as a villain in the beginning of the issue but towards the end almost feel forgotten about. Alright let's get on to the character analysis for this issue.
Tumblr media
The Hulk, for this issue i really like him yet again. He gets a bit more emotions than the last issue. Also we get his iconic coloration. Due to Bruce wearing a purple jumpsuit. I do really like this new look on him also. We also get two looks with him, one with the Purple jumpsuit, the other with a white shirt and purple pants.
Tumblr media
Bruce Banner, he's about the same this issue I don't have really any problems with him, and I really like his idea of trying to keep the Hulk secure and away from the public. Also you do get to see his superior intellect with him defeating the Toad Men.
Tumblr media
Rick Jones, I actually like him much more in this issue, it's amazing how much growth one character can get between an issue. He's still not super bright but he's not as bad as he was last issue. So I would say my opinion of Rick has greatly improved.
Tumblr media
General Ross, again a really great character. I love his complete and utter hatred for the Hulk. Also I'm very certain if he wasn't a general he would probably be court-martialed. Still a very great character.
Tumblr media
The Toad King and his Toad Men, what a wacky group of characters. Also like I said earlier I love that in the second issue of a serious we got aliens. Though unlike the Skrulls I doubt the Toad Men will be reoccurring villains that threaten the Marvel Universe. Anyway another top tier villain.
Tumblr media
Betty Ross, honestly I had a lot of back and forth with adding her to the character analysis. Simply because she didn't really have any character in this issue. She was once again a damsel in distress with little screen time. I just really wish she would grow a bit more as a character soon.
Alright that is all for this issue, join us next time as the Hulk joins the circus. Sort of. Anyway until next time true believers, Excelsior!
Tumblr media
I do not own the images above as they are part of Marvel Comics.

The Incredible Hulk Volume 1 Issue 1
In this issue we get to witness a new hero take ship within the Marvel Comics Universe. Starting off in the form of the genius Dr Bruce Banner, but after exposure to gamma radiation he is then transformed into the Incredible Hulk.
Tumblr media
Our story starts off in the lab of Bruce Banner as he and several others prepare to test their new gamma bomb. Some notable members here are Betty Ross, the daughter of the also present General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. We are also quickly shown that Betty harbors feelings towards Dr Banner.
As the tests for the gamma bomb are underway Bruce then realizes a boy is within the blast zone, in his vehicle. This boy being Rick Jones, he states that he wasn't going to lose a bet to his friends about staying at this testing grounds.
Dr Banner with his quick thinking as the missile is launched towards the boy, pushing him into a bunker as Bruce absorbs very intense gamma radiation. This then causes Dr Banner to pass out due to the radiation.
That night Dr Banner awakes next to Rick Jones, as an incredible transformation begins to take place with the rising of the moon. Dr Banner is then turned into, the Hulk. Also quick note the Hulk in his first issue is actually Grey, a lot of comic fans know this, I just really like this other coloration of the character.
The Hulk then escapes the hospital wing and we find out that he has super strength as he smashes through a wall and destroys a military jeep. The Military then pursues the Hulk, as they see him as a monster. Hulk makes his way into the lab of Dr Banners associate Igor ( who is a spy for the Russians ). The Hulk then smashed up the lab, but is shown an image of Bruce Banner by Rick Jones and he turns back into the Dr.
Betty Ross, and the military show up to the scene. Betty is quite concerned for Bruce as it seems like the Hulk attacked him. The military then starts a manhunt for the Hulk, while imprisoning Igor as they discover that he is a Russian Spy. While Igor is imprisoned he sends a message to Russia to someone known as the Gargoyle ( Yuri Topolov ). The Gargoyle decides he is going to capture the Hulk and sets out for America to do so.
Bruce Banner and Rick Jones are in a car when Bruce turns into the Hulk again, but this time the Gargoyle is nearby and ready to capture him. The Gargoyle does so rather easily actually, it's very interesting to see the growth of the Hulk's strength through the years. The Gargoyle then takes Rick Jones and the Hulk back to Russia but as they do so the Hulk reverts back to Bruce Banner.
The Gargoyle tells Bruce that his secret identity is no longer secret, then the Gargoyle breaks down telling Bruce that he would give anything to be able to appear normal. Bruce tells him that, even though Bruce can't be cured, the Gargoyle can, with radiation. Bruce cures Yuri, and in doing so Yuri let's Bruce and Rick escape. Yuri sacrifices himself by destroying the Russian base as Bruce and Rick jet back to the States.
Alright so this issue is a decent introduction for one of Marvel's most notable heroes. I love how much this character changes though, over the next few issues Hulk will begin to change, and I love it, I love seeing experimentations with characters like this. I also loved the main villain of this issue it's so interesting that he turned good and then sacrificed himself, I really enjoy that. Alright on to the character analysis.
Tumblr media
Alright Bruce Banner, he's a pretty standard character. Genius scientist who gets blasted by gamma rays. I really like him in this issue. I also like that he suggests to help the Gargoyle and cure him. Good guy Bruce.
Tumblr media
The Hulk. I really like this first encounter with the Hulk, I know later he will get more of a personality, but for now he's just angry with everything and dislikes humans a lot. Usually calling humans weaklings or puny. Though again I can't wait to see him develop more.
Tumblr media
Rick Jones, honestly I'm not a big fan of Rick, especially at first. He's essentially the Johnny Storm of this series, but without the useful powers. He's really just a useless sidekick. Though I know he will get better as time goes on.
Tumblr media
Betty Ross, she really is just the love interest for this issue. She doesn't have many identifiable traits besides being in love with Bruce Banner. Which is really why she's here for now, but I know she will also get some development in the future and I can't wait for it.
Tumblr media
General Thunderbolt Ross, I know for right now he hasn't had a big role in the series but he's one of Hulk's main antagonists, he often goes against orders just to try and capture, or rid the world of the Hulk. I really like him as an antagonist to both Bruce and the Hulk.
Tumblr media
The Gargoyle, this antagonist is such a breath of fresh air. Sort of. Yes at first he is very average, the normal evil scientist trying to go against the hero. Though this time the Gargoyle begs Bruce to help him, and then he switches sides and sacrifices himself so Rick and Bruce can escape. My hero.
Alright well that's our first introduction to the Incredible Hulk, we'll be staying with this character for a little while so I hope you all enjoy, next issue we see the Hulk going to the stars. Until next time.
Tumblr media
I do not own the images above they belong to Marvel Comics.

Tales to Astonish Volume 1 Issue 27
Alright this next comic may astonish you. We're taking a break from our fantastic friends, and looking into the origins of some other soon to be heroes. Our first Origin story starts with the Dr Henry Jonathan "Hank" Pym, and his shrinking and growth serums, later known as Pym particles. Let's begin shall we?
Tumblr media
Our story begins in the lab of Dr Henry Pym, as he tests out his new growth serum on a chair successfully shrinking it to the size of an ant, then using his growth serum, bringing it back to its standard height. He then tests the chemicals on himself and shrinks, he shrinks for more rapidly than he guessed, and ends up the size of an ant.
Tumblr media
Our brave hero runs around the room frantically and ends up running out of the door, and ends up trapped outside. Where he sees a massive anthill. The ants then head down towards Dr Lyn ready to attack him. I'm Dr Pyms blind flight of panic he stumbles down into the Ants nest. Landing in a massive room filled with honey.
The ants then come towards him ready to attack him, but Dr Pym throws a rock towards a match lighting a fire. He then uses this fire to help him escape, only to realize he can't climb up the walls. All hope looks bleak until one ant comes and allows Dr Pym to ride on its back, as it takes the doctor up to the windowsill where his enlarging serum is.
After regaining his height Dr Pym decides to get rid of his height manipulating serum. He also never harmed another ant ever again.
Tumblr media
Alright this comic is, well astonishing. It really does not feel like a hero origin story but it is. I really don't mind it, I enjoy how different it is to other origins. Alright let's look at the sole character of this comic shall we?
Tumblr media
Dr Pym, there's not a whole lot to do say with the character yet, he's fine over all he just needs to stop blindly running around, that has been the cause of most of the problems in this issue. I think he's an alright character, but he definitely has room for improvement.
Alright that is it for this comic, in our next post we will see another origin for another hero, a very incredible hero. So don't miss it. Until next time.
Tumblr media
I do not own the images in this comic they are part of Marvel Comics.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 7.
Alright in the last issue the Fantastic Four faced off against two of their most well known villains, Namor the Sub-Mariner, and Dr Doom. This issue introduces a new villain from us from the mysterious planet X. Let's see what shall happen shall we?
Tumblr media
After the Fantastic Fours previous missions, they have been regarded as heroes of earth. Everyone loves them, celebrities and other famous elites are coming are all wanting to meet the Fantastic Four. Well with all the well wishes the Fantastic Four are then invited to a dinner at the White House.
As they are headed to be honored by our nations leaders, the mysterious Kurrgo, from planet X sends down his robot to, alter how people see the Fantastic Four. In doing so the assembly gathered to honor our heroic team then begins to attack them. The Fantastic Four escape in very cartoonish ways, but it's very fun.
The Fantastic Four then discover the ship of the Robot fo Kurrgo. They and the Robot meet atop the Baxter Building, where he states the foundations of his villainous plan. All of earth is against the Fantastic Four, and the only way to stop it is for the team to travel to the planet X.
The Fantastic Four arrive on planet X where they meet Kurrgo, the master of planet X. Kurrgo tells the team that an asteroid is hurtling towards his world aimed at destroying the planet. He is wanting the Fantastic Four, mainly Reed Richards, to figure out a solution because they only have two spaceships on their planet.
The Four try to battle Kurrgo's Robot but it is to no avail. Mr Fantastic then agrees to help Kurrgo and his people. This has the team working insanely fast to find a solution to their problem.
Mister Fantastic creates a shrink ray, able to shrink down the entire population and place them on a single ship to a new hospitable world. Kurrgo decides to no longer regrow his people once they reach their new home, so he can assume control once again. Though he is too late, as the Fantastic Four, and the people of Planet X are safely en route to either their homes, or to the new homes they will find in the cosmos.
Yeah so the plot for this comic isn't all that much. Though it is very nice to see Reed use his brain more, I've noticed that after this point he is a bit more of a critical thinker despite some of his solutions being very corny. Now let's get to our character analysis.
Tumblr media
I like Reed much more in this one. He's starting to use his intellect more instead of just proclaiming he's a genius. He's also stepping into the role of leader much better than I assumed he would this early on. Anyway I would say my opinion has yet again grown.
Tumblr media
The Human Torch, I actually like him a bit more in this comic. He goes to make a sacrifice play at one point but he does survive it. Also I'm starting to like The Thing and his relationship much more now. Id say my opinion of Johnny has gone up this year.
Tumblr media
Sue, you know it's bad when this is the only character I have to go back and flip through to see what she's done. Oh that's right damsel in distress unless chased by united states military which she's able to easily evade. My opinion on Sue stays the same, I don't think it'll get much better anytime soon.
Tumblr media
The Thing, again I love him in this issue though he takes a back seat during act two, but act one he really shines. He relationship with the Human Torch has gotten better, and he finally feels fine with being how he is at least for now. My opinion on the Thing is unchanged but still my most favorite member of the team.
Tumblr media
Kurrgo, and his robot are really fun villains. They're goofy and the designs are just completely out there, mainly for Kurrgo though. When I first saw him I thought his big head was just covered in wrinkly skin, until I realized it's covered in fur. I also like that his robot is just called Kurrgo's Robot, instead of Kurrgbot, not every villain needs a Doombot, or a Lexbot. I also love that the main problem for Kurrgo is that his people only have two spaceships, and they could have gone anywhere in the universe but they went to Earth. Anyway they're pretty fun villains.
Alright that's all for this post, we'll also be taking a short break away from the Fantastic Four as we expand the Hero roster of the Marvel Universe. The next hero we will be taking a look at might astonish you. Until next time.
Tumblr media
I do not own any of the images above they are all property of Marvel Comics.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 6
In the previous issue we were introduced to the super villain Dr Doom, in the issue before that we were introduced to the Golden Age hero known as Namor the Sub-Mariner. In this issue the two team up to face off against the Fantastic Four. I look forward to seeing how these two foes intend to take down the Fantastic Four. Alright let's get to our story shall we?
Tumblr media
The issue starts off pretty slow, which I really enjoy. It's just the Fantastic Four resting in their hideout after searching all over for Dr Doom. I really enjoy seeing the team just lounging together, and sort of acting like normal people. Also, we get an updated look at the Baxter Building. It's been only three issues since our first detailed look and now we get a completely new one. I'm for it I'm a sucker for these kinds of things.
Tumblr media
After our rendezvous with the Fantastic Four we are greeted by our two antagonists of the issue Namor, and Dr Doom. Namor is out in the ocean swimming with some dolphins and Dr Doom is on his plane/submarine. Well Dr Doom tries to convince Namor to aid him in defeating the Fantastic Four. At first Namor refuses, due to how affection towards Sue. Dr Doom eventually is able to convince Namor to defeat the team, though Namor states that he will as long as no harm will come to Sue. Dr Doom agrees and the two set out to sew their seeds of chaos.
Namor then arrives and all but one member of the group are ready to just beat him into the dirt. He then tells the team he is here to seek their friendship. While doing so and acting as a distraction, Dr Doom takes a his spaceship, rocket thing, and picks up the Baxter Building. He then brings them into space. I'm not even really sure how he is able to accomplish this but I'm proud of him.
The group don space suits ( which is just a glass bowl on their heads, while still wearing their super suits ) ,and try to figure out how there are going to descend back to earth. The Thing is about to come to blows with Namor, but the fight doesn't last due to Namor realizing he was just a pawn in Dr Dooms scheme.
Namor decides to be the one to save the Fantastic Four, and mainly Sue. He then jumps out of the Baxter Building towards Dr Doom. Namor is able to trash the ship, and Dr Doom is sent hurtling into the cosmos never to be seen again. Namor plummets to the depths of the deepest recesses of the ocean. As for the Fantastic Four are back where we found them this issue. At the Baxter Building, acting as normal as a group of super heroes can.
I'll be honest I was hoping for so much more from this issue, especially with Namor and Dr Doom working together. Also the Fantastic Four themselves don't do much in this issue it's a lot of them just being trapped in the Baxter Building. Which for a little bit I'm fine with. Though I do really like that Namor is slowly starting to return to his heroic routes.
Alright it looks like it's about time for our character Analysis, so let's go ahead and begin this one.
Tumblr media
Mister Fantastic honesty didn't do much this issue. He was essentially a keeper of the peace, stopping Ben from clobbering Namor not once, but twice this issue. Still I would say my Opinion on Reed Richards has not changed since the last one.
Tumblr media
Sue Storm, girl, what do you see in Namor. Yes I bet he is gorgeous but every time he shows up, it usually puts your friends, and younger brother into dangerous if not deadly situations. On the bright side though at least all the Fantastic Four this issue got to partake in being damsels in distress. Still I would say my opinion of Sue has remained the same.
Tumblr media
The Human Torch, honestly I like him a lot more in this comic. He just feels more like the lovable little brother, instead of his so far usuall annoying cousin feel. I would say my opinion of the Human Torch has gone up since the last issue and he is much more tolerable this time around.
Tumblr media
Alright as for the Thing, my opinion of him has stayed the same yet again. He goes and tries to fight Namor several times and he's just a big angry rock boy, and I love it, though again like the rest of the team, he was kind of just a damsel in distress. Which again is fine they were fighting in space for the first time.
Tumblr media
Namor the Sub-Mariner. I actually really like him in this comic. He is slowly on his way to yet again becoming one of Marvel's greatest heroes. It'll take a few more issues, but I love his character development in this one. Though I still can't see what Sue sees in him.
Tumblr media
Dr Doom, I'm also really glad to see him again. Especially with him and Namor teaming up to take on the Fantastic Four. I also like that he more so just uses Namor as a means to an end. Also his supreme intellect is a bit more believable than Reeds for the moment.
Alright that looks like everything for this comic. Our next comic will introduce a new villain, it will also be our last Fantastic Four issue for awhile as we introduce some new characters to the Marvel Comics Universe. Until next time.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 5
Alright so the last issue introduced the Silver Age to a big player within Golden Age comics. Well this comic introduces one of Marvels greatest villains of all time, Dr Doom ( Victor von Doom ). I'll be honest when I saw the cover I got really excited to finally have Dr Doom show up.
Anyway on with the story. It starts out with the Fantastic Four in the Baxter Building, of course Johnny and the Thing are harassing one another yet again. Though what I like about this issue is that it feels like they disciplined Johnny more so than the Thing for this small quarrel. It's the little wins for us Thing lovers. Anyway as this is all transpiring the evil Dr Doom is hovering over the Baxter Building with a giant net. An electric asbestos lines net. Quick sidetrack, most ways to stop the Human Torch involve Asbestos, ah the good old days when Asbestos silver everything. I also find it a bit funny with the sliding timescale, because I don't know what to use for in place of Asbestos, like is everyone still using it even with all the Asbestos commercials out there?
Anyway Dr Doom tells the Fantastic Four to send up Sue Storm, which they comply to, and then he tells the others to also board his ship, which they do. He then tells Reed, Johnny, and Ben that he has built a time machine, and he is going to send them into the past to search for Blackbeard's treasure and that they have 48 hours. Wow, five issues and we've already encountered aliens, and time travel.
Well the three agree to go looking for the treasure. So Doom sends them back into the late 1600s, early 1700s, it doesn't give a specific date. Anyway the three land in the past, and they don some pirate outfits. I'll be honest I really like these outfits for the group, they're bright, and colorful some of my favorite outfits so far in the series. They also use these outfits to disguise Ben giving a big hat, and eye patch, and a black beard.
They head to an inn, and end up getting drugged by a pirate, who captures them and shows them aboard his ship. The three break out and easily take control over the vessel, mainly due to them having literal super powers, and this poor pirate crew just having 17th century weaponry.
After taking control over the vessel they are then attacked by another pirate vessel, and the three members fight back hoping that it it's Blackbeard. They end up winning the ship battle taking the other ships plunder, again by using their amazing abilities.
Well after taking the treasure from the other groups or pirates the Thing is being praised by them for his immense strength. He ends up wanting to stay with the pirates since he's been praised for his strength. Johnny and Reed try to force Ben to come back with them in which he orders his crew to capture his two friends, then a twister appears.
The twister hurtles towards the ship destroying it and throwing the three heroes onto a nearby island. Along with the treasure of Blackbeard. That's right Thing is Blackbeard. Well Dr Doom summons them back to his castle, he opens up the chest only to find chains. The Thing then goes to clobber him, only to find that it's a Doombot. I really like when villains call their robots something other robots and usually with their name or title.
The real Doctor Doom then traps the three members on an airlock chamber sucking the air from, until Sue, finally saves the day. She shuts off the system and saves the other three, finally five whole issues until she's done something.
The Four then set Doom's castle ablaze with him inside it but in standard super villain fashion he escapes, with a jetpack, how cool. So the Fantastic Four head off to the Baxter Building when Johnny states, " Gosh first Sub-Mariner now Dr Doom loose on Earth, What happens next?" Oh Johnny if only you knew.
Tumblr media
So I really liked this comic Dr Doom is a decent villain starting out, again I love the cartoony quality that he has with his schemes. I don't mind the team at all this time, and Sue actually did something this issue, what a milestone. Anyways on to the character analysis.
Tumblr media
Mister Fantastic was actually pretty decent this issue. Also I love his pirate attire, it's very nice. Also it is through him that we get Dr Doom's backstory, or at least the beginning of his backstory. As well as the birth of one of the greatest rivalries in Marvel comics.
Tumblr media
Johnny was also pretty tolerable throughout this issue. In the beginning he was annoying but towards the end he was fine. Again I love his pirate attire, the yellow and green work really well with him, kinda makes me wish he would do a similar outfit later on.
Tumblr media
The Thing, or should I say Blackbeard. I yet again love the Thing in this issue, I love that he becomes Blackbeard, and that he wanted to stay with the pirates. I mean it makes sense in his world he is viewed as a monster. While in this world, he's the greatest pirate to ever sail.
Tumblr media
Sue, the writers finally let her do something besides get captured. I mean she did get captured but she single handedly foiled Dr Dooms plans. I'm so glad that she did, because this marks the beginning of Sue doing more with, and for the time, besides being a damsel in distress.
Tumblr media
Dr Doom, possibly one of the most iconic Marvel Villains of all time. He's probably one of the best masterminds that Marvel has made, and his rivalry with Reed Richards, is purely iconic. Though in this comic, he's practically the same as any standard villain, just he has two pets, a Vulture, and a Tiger, named Gunther. Yes that's canon. Anyway I look forward to seeing Dr Doom become the primary antagonist of the Fantastic Four, and a major player in the universe.
Alright so I think that settles it for this issue. Our next thrilling tale will have the Fantastic Four facing off against two previous foes. Who could they be? Find out next time.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 4.
So this issue features the return of a Marvel Golden Age character, that being Namor the Sub-Mariner. He's a mutant, a human, an Atlantean, and the first hero to ever fly. Though he starts off his Silver Age debut as a villain. I was always curious as to why Marvel chose to do this, especially because later on he does become a hero. Though recently he's more of a neutral type of character. I've also come to notice a lot of water based heroes to this route. Coincidence maybe? Anyway on to our thrilling tale, and the return of the Sub-Mariner.
Alright so this issue is pretty fun. It takes place right after the events of the last issue with Johnny Storm leaving the Fantastic Four. Though I don't like that they blame the Thing for it I believe both are at fault here. Anyway they decide to start searching the entire city for the Human Torch with the Fantasticar. Though all of them fail except the Thing who finds him in his garage.
Johnny ends up fleeing from the Thing, due to him turning back into Ben Grimm. Honestly I feel bad for the guy, this tends to happen often to him, even later having Mister Fantastic make serums to help him turn back. Only for it to last a few measly minutes.
Well Johnny ends up staying at a very run down Men's Hotel. Where he finds a comic from the 1940s, which features, you guessed it, the Sub-Mariner. Then by sheer dumb luck guess who Johnny ends up running into at this shabby run down hotel. That's right, the Sub-Mariner. Johnny uses his flaming fingers to give him a hair cut, removing his long hair and beard. Then boom, classic Golden Age Sub-Mariner.
Anyway our other three heroes continue the search for Johnny, while he basically slips past them, well he slips past his sister. Then he takes Namor, and drops him into the Ocean. Which gives Namor back his memories and he then remembers that he is Namor the Sub-Mariner the legendary prince of the sea.
Namor then swims to what was once his undersea kingdom. Only to find it destroyed by humans radioactive weapons. I wonder if Godzilla was close by. Namor then swears his revenge and vows to destroy the surface world. Just a recap real quick that means, The Mole Man and his underground group wishes to destroy the surface, the Skulls from Space wish to conquer the Earth, and Miracle Man just wanted to have us fear him. Now Sub-Mariner and any ocean buddies also want to destroy the surface world. 616 earth cannot catch a break.
Anyway the Fantastic Four catch up with Johnny, and he tells them what all has happened. Sub-Mariner then summons a massive sea creature from the Depths known as Giganto to attack the surface world. The Fantastic Four attack only to learn that nothing can harm it from the outside, but what about inside. That's when they send in my man the Thing. They strap a nuke to his back and have him walk into Gigantos stomach to plant it and blow him up. What a Chad. Thing also battles some monsters while in Gigantos stomach so again he is without a doubt the best member of the team.
Well after Giganto dies, Namor resurfaces with his horn to summon another terrible monster in which Sue steals it from him. Though he instantly catches her, and she turns visible and Namor falls in love with her, and then she also finds him very attractive like he asks her to marry him and she genuinely thinks it over, and they first met seconds ago. You guys thought Disney was bad with it's quick love stories.
Well Namor then tries to steal Sue away beneath the Ocean, and none of the Fantastic Four can think of how to prevent this. Until Johnny uses his flying speed to create a whirlwind and transport Namor back into the Ocean without his horn. Like the horn just gets lost in the depths, and Namor "loses". Though the Fantastic Four swear if he returns he will have them to deal with.
Tumblr media
Alright so this comic is alright, I feel like I say that a lot. Namor is a really good addition to the Silver Age of comics. Just he's really depowered so that the Fantastic Four can win. Also I don't like the Sue, Namor, and Reed love triangle. It to me is probably the weaker love triangle within comics. Also this comic and the last one really make me not like Johnny Storm.
Anyway onto our character analysis for this comic.
Tumblr media
Alright my views on Mister Fantastic stay the same from the last issue. Though I don't know how he wouldn't have found Johnny with his superior intellect, but I'm also glad he didn't. He also doesn't do a whole lot this issue, again I'm not upset with this, I'm glad some other characters got to make the power play in this issue. So Reed buddy keep doing you.
Tumblr media
Sue, why, why are you like this? Like I don't dislike her, some of her scenes are funny, and would be something id definitely do if I had invisibility. Like she take a sip of a drink at a diner and everyone thinks the place is haunted these are the shenanigans I live for. Just why did you fall for Namor so quickly I don't understand.
Tumblr media
Johnny, I'm still not a big fan of you buddy. You kind of caused the problem this issue and didn't really solve it, although you did. Just I know you'll get better but honestly my opinion of Johnny has stayed in the lower regions like in the last issue.
Tumblr media
Thing, my man, the Goat. The more I get of you, the more you become my favorite member of this team. You strapped a Nuke to your back and walked into Gigantos belly. A true hero, and I'm sorry you keep changing from Ben to the Thing for basically a few seconds. I know your future is bright, keep being brilliant.
Tumblr media
Namor the Sub-Mariner, I actually really like this character. I think his introduction is very forced, but hey it's comics. Also I just like the design, the swimming speedo, the wings on his ankles, the pointy ears. All very nice, I just don't see what Sue sees in him. Take out the love triangle and he's a really good antagonist. Also you where robbed of tpk, but hey that's comics for ya.
Alright so next issue we will be introduced to one of the Fantastic Fours most notorious villains, and possibly the most notorious in all of Marvel Comics. Until next time.

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 3
So my previous two posts where mainly about the introduction of Marvels first family the Fantastic Four. This is the third instalment of the Fantastic Four. We get a few cool updates in this issue like the introduction of the Fantasticar. As well as the debut of the Fantastic Fours Iconic suits. We also get a interesting look into the Fantastic Fours building of operations. Anyway let's begin with the story shall we.
Tumblr media
This issue starts with the Fantastic Four watching a magic show, with the villain of the issue being the magician himself. This being the Miracle Man ( Joshua Ayers ). He challenges the Thing in a test of strength in which he ends up besting the Thing. Which upsets the Thing to where he begins to throw punches at the Miracle Man.
Miracle Man then decides that is time for him to begin his reign of terror on the public by giving life to a giant statue known as The Monster from Mars.
Around this time our fabulous foursome debut their new outfits. I'll be honest I'm not the biggest fan of them, they're essentially blue jumpsuits with a big four plastered in the center of them. Honestly I prefer the outfits that add white to the costume. Though I will say I like The Things costume with his helmet that he wears only briefly. I also enjoy that he just tears the shirt off and ends up in pants, although later it does become shorts. All in all I prefer the Things costume, and Johnny's costume, since he flames on you don't see it much.
Tumblr media
The next new addition that we get is the Fantasticar. Which I really like this first design, though many viewers said it looked like a flying bathtub. I just really like it.
Tumblr media
We also get a look at the Fantastic Fours secret headquarters. Boy do they have everything in it. I actually really like a lot of the attention to detail that the writers use to explain many things that I'm sure readers would have questions about. Also this building will later be known as the Baxter Building.
Anyway back to our story. The Fantastic Four set out to stop the Miracle Man. It mainly ends in a car chase where Mister Fantastic turns himself into a wheel, which I really find enjoyable. Once they catch him Reed states that the Miracle Man had no magic and was just a master at mass hypnotism, and illusions, though he learns this after realizing the Sue was hypnotized by the Miracle Man. So yet another villain is carted off to prison and our heroic team celebrates their third victory. Well until Johnny decides that he's splitting from the team, I guess that's a problem for the next issue. Also it is sad that the team has only lasted three issues before a member has decided to leave.
I don't mind this comic really it's decent, I wish the Miracle Man actually had magic. Though this was before Marvel decided to delve into the more magical aspect of their universe. I would give this issue probably a seven. Because I really do like that the team has finally gotten their super suits, even if I'm not the biggest fan of the design. I also really like the introduction of the Fantasticar, all hail the flying bathtub. I also enjoy the in depth look of the Baxter Building.
Alright now on to my rankings of our Main Characters and our Miraculous Antagonist. See what I did there.
Tumblr media
Mister Fantastic, I've actually really enjoyed him in this issue, he was a very integral part on stopping the Miracle Man. I also really liked his ingenuity in turning himself into a tire so they could chase down their target. He also figures out the Miracle Man's actual abilities. So yeah I really like him in this one.
Tumblr media
Sadly once again Sue doesn't do much. She does track the Miracle Man down, but then she is instantly captured and is turned into the damsel in distress. She also designs the teams first outfits. Ben's is my favorite but I dont think he was the biggest fan of his new uniform.
Tumblr media
I didn't really like Johnny in this issue. He just comes off as a bratty awful teen, and he's really annoying. I get that him picking on the Thing all the time is one of his gimmicks, but it's already pretty old. He's just like that annoying sibling or cousin. Needless to say though he does serve an important part in stopping our villain.
Tumblr media
Ah the Thing, still my absolute favorite, never change buddy. Every panel he is in I enjoy. I love his goofy helmet he wears for literally two panels, and that he doesn't like wearing his shirt. All winners for me. The Thing right now is my soul reason for reading these, Ben Grimm I love ya.
Tumblr media
Boy do I really like this villain. He is the evil mustache twirling villain that has plagued many a 90s TV shows, and he predates them I love a visionary. I do really like how absurd this villain is, they could've made it easy and said, "oh yeah he really uses magic." No they took a risk they made him an illusionist and a master of hypnosis. He definitely takes my number one spot out of the villains we have met.
Alright that looks like that's it for this post, next time we'll see if Johnny will rejoin the Fantastic Four. Spoiler I think he will.
Tumblr media
I do not own the images in this post they are created and owned by Marvel comics.

Fantastic Four Vol 1 Issue 2.
So in the last post I went over the start of the Marvel 616 universe with the debut of Marvels first family. The Fantastic Four. Well this is their second outing in the world of heroism, and my second outing in the world of reviewing these. So here's my flamin hot takes from this issue. Man the Human Torch would have loved that last phrase. Anyway let's start.
Tumblr media
So this issue starts with what we the readers are to believe are the Fantastic Four commiting several crimes around the world. Well turns out that it isn't them, it's an alien race known as the Skrulls, you may have heard of the Skrulls from the MCU movie Captain Marvel, and the show Secret Invasion. Though I do find it interesting that they did aliens right in the second issue.
Well our Fantastic team is rightfully blamed for the crimes, though they escape the United States military. They then set about a way of stopping the Skrull invasion of earth. How do they do this you may ask. Well they discover the Skrulls ship, disguised as a Water Tower. They then travel to the Skrull flagship, and then convince them that they shouldn't invade earth because of the awful creatures that live there. If you think they mean humans they definitely don't, they use clippings of monsters from other Marvel Comics. Which the Skrull leader believes and they just leave earth, and the Fantastic Four convince the Skrull leader to leave them behind as like a sacrifice.
Then they return to earth and convince the United States military, and also police that aliens that can shape shift have been doing this, granted at least now they have some evidence with the water tower spaceship. Never thought that would be a sentence I'd write. They then go and defeat the Skrulls and Mister Fantastic uses Hypnosis on them to have the Skrulls turn into cows, and basically live their lives as cows until the end of time. It is the wackiest ending so far, but I feel like wackier is still to come.
Alright on to my favorite part, talking about the main characters of this issue. Again I'll be starting with the heroes. So that means first up is Mister Fantastic.
Tumblr media
I don't mind Mister Fantastic in this issue. It's just I still can't comprehend that he is the smartest man in the world. So far his ideas are something I would have thought up as super cool on the playground and would've most likely had the ideas rejected. Anyway he's at the same stage that I had him last issue, no true change yet for the leader of the Fantastic Four.
Next up is the leading lady of the group The Invisible Girl.
Tumblr media
Again Sue Storm also doesn't change for me. She still hasn't done a whole lot for the team yet. She's either been a damsel in distress or kind of just there because she has to be. I think the best part about her this issue is when she just turns invisible and slips past to Army guards. Again another character that hasn't changed for me but I would really like to see her get better.
Next up is the Hot Head himself The Human Torch.
Tumblr media
Honestly for this issue Johnny is a lot more likeable. I mean he's hot headed and does his own thing, but I like him more so this issue than the last. He's still not my favorite member but I'd prefer him over the last two members.
Next is the final member of the Fantastic Four, The Thing.
Tumblr media
Definitely my favorite character this issue once again. I just can't help but to feel bad for this guy. First he transforms back to his original human form only briefly before being reverted back into the Thing. Also Sue is still a bit scared of him, which I'm like come on, you've been around him several times so you should at least be ok with his appearance. Anyway Thing is by far my top favorite of the Fantastic Four.
Now for our Antagonists, the shape shifting Skrulls.
Tumblr media
I really don't mind the Skrulls, it's a fun concept having your heroes essentially fight themselves. Though I really find the ending all too funny to take seriously. These four Skrulls turn into cows and live that way basically forever. It's just so, anticlimactic.
Anyway that's my take on the second issue of the Fantastic Four. I can't wait to get into the third one, hopefully by then our team will have some super suits, until next time.
Tumblr media
I do not own the images in this post they are a product of Marvel Comics.

Tumblr media
So I have recently decided to go about and read Marvel Comics in some form of chronological order. ( I'll leave a link to the website I'm using to undertake this task at the bottom.) I will also give my thoughts as an amateur comic enthusiast, on the comics that I have here as well as hopefully some helpful information. Speaking of helpful information before I continue I'll also state that the Marvel Universe timeline is on a sliding timescale, so some historical mentions and references should be viewed differently such as the name of the President of the United States and so on. Also the timeline is roughly that every ten ish years of comic publication could be deemed as a year within the Marvel Universe. Of course there's exceptions, there's always exceptions. Anyway I've decided to start with the Silver Age, which for a long time has been the birthplace of the main Marvel 616 Universe. With starting with the Silver Age then that Means that we start with the very first Fantastic Four Comic.
The comic stars the "First Family" of Marvel comics, The Fantastic Four. Which act as the first team and first four heroes introduced to us the readers. Despite that canonically there are other heroes within this world from ages past. The Fantastic Four consists of Four members, Mister Fantastic ( Reed Richards), Invisible Girl ( Susan "Sue" Storm ), The Human Torch ( Jonathan "Johnny" Storm ), and The Thing ( Benjamin "Ben" Grimm ). It is written by Stan Lee ,and penciled by Jack Kirby.
The comic starts off showing us our heroes using their newly acquired powers before showing us their origins. Which we find out was caused by them going into space and then being blasted by cosmic rays. Though this does have some slight changes later on due to the sliding timescale. Their spacecraft ends up crashing and the Four members land safely although they do have a freak out over their new abilities. I mean hey so would I if I caught on fire and could fly or turn invisible. Anyway the group is then forever changed, they also give themselves their superhero names, which reminds me of when I was in college and had everyone call me Smurf because my hair was blue and I didn't want to be called Sonic and have to run around everywhere. Right sorry back to the story, after this the Fantastic Four is born.
Tumblr media
Anyway later on the Fantastic Four hear of these massive sinkholes that have been dragging items underground. There's also these massive creatures that come from the massive sinkholes and terrorize the surface world. Well we come to find out that all of this, is the devious plan of the Mole Man ( Harvey Elder ). I also have the names of his monsters, I love that Marvel Fandom wiki included these guys. We have Giganto, Tricephalous, and Rock Monster Guardian ( Ugu ). We also get a brief backstory of the Mole Man. Essentially he got made fun of a lot and then went cave exploring before being trapped in the caves, just goes to show don't make fun of people. Anywho, The way the Mole Man is defeated is very anticlimactic Reed and the Mole Man face of in a stick fight, but then Reed just picks him up and carries him away.
Tumblr media
But then even after Reed grabs onto him as the tunnels begin collapsing around them, Reed let's go of the Mole Man, so he still got away in the end. That's really it for the first issue.
Alright let's talk about the characters of this story, sorry Ugu that doesn't mean you, first let's start with our main man himself Reed Richards.
Tumblr media
I don't mind him all that much in this comic, I know personally I have never been the biggest fan of the Mister Fantastic or the Fantastic Four in general but in this issue he's ok, I don't mind him, but I definitely do not believe that he is the smartest man in the world.
Anyway on to our second hero, the Invisible Girl.
Tumblr media
What can I say about Sue Storm. She turns invisible I guess. I'm so glad I have future comic knowledge of her otherwise I'd ask what the point of her character is, granted I am aware this comic came out in 1961, so they weren't really sitting at a table discussing to themselves, how can we make the Invisible Girl cool? As of right now she's not my favorite character, but I can't wait for that to change because I know it will.
Now for the hothead himself, the Human Torch.
Tumblr media
When I was younger I loved the Human Torch, which yeah that's his role he's basically the younger groups character, the one they can associate with. I'm older now and honestly I can't really stand Johnny. Again like his sister I know this will change in the future, I just get annoyed with him, though on a good note I think he's at least the second strongest member as of right now.
Now for the strongest member of the Fantastic Four, The Thing.
Tumblr media
Honestly I love the Thing, he's big, he's sassy, and I can't help but feel bad for him. He's essentially the joke of the group but he's super strong, I just feel bad because everyone sees him as a monster but not me no siree, I like my big pile of orange rocks. So far he's my favorite member he has the most use, and is definitely without a doubt the strongest member.
Now for our Antagonist the Mole Man.
Tumblr media
What can I say about the Mole Man. Honestly a weak first villain. He doesn't do much, gets beaten in a stick fight and then just slips away. I'm amazed that he's become a mainstay in comics and is still a villain in recent issues.
Anyway that's me talking about the Fantastic Four Series 1 Issue 1. It was an ok start to the Marvel Universe I can't wait to see where it goes from here, until next time. Excelsior!
The site I've been using to read Marvel comics chronologically:
Also the art depicted on this post is not mine and does belong to Marvel Comics. I'm not that good of an artist to turn an arm into a lasso
