one perk of being back home was being able to go back to all the places that he had missed. he had been pretty busy with school so he hadn’t had the chance yet , but on his day off he had decided to wander into the pie place. as a child his parents made it a habit to come in every sunday after church. while he had gotten older it had become almost impossible due to everyone’s ever changing schedule, but this place still felt so comforting. while as a child his parents knew the owner and talked to him, dalton had changed so much and grown up he doubted that he would remember him. he took a seat and looked around at the place, real glad that it hadn’t changed much .
having forgotten a lot of what was on the menu, he took a long glance, his brown eyes darting through trying to find something to stand out to him. he looked up as soon as he heard a voice and smiled, shrugging it off. “oh no worries man, that sounds delicious though. i haven’t been here in a long while so i kind of want something new to try.” dalton stopped as he glanced over the menu again and considered what he had just told him. “what’s the most popular item on the menu ? i would consider trying everything on the menu but my body could not handle that”
“Hey, thanks for coming in! Take a seat anywhere, I’ll be right with you.” Spruce loved his job and opening Pie of the Tiger in his hometown was a dream come true for him, but he was the only one working at the moment and he was too busy running around like a crazy person to be too grateful about his current situation. He delivered the orders for a few waiting customers and rung up several more who’d been waiting to check out before tying on a fresh apron and approaching the table.
“Sorry about the wait, my husband usually works with me, but he’s got the flu and the kids started school today, so I’m on my own. Our special today is the “Keep Calm and Berry on” pie, which was supposed to be a quadruple berry pie, but I started to run out of cranberries, so it’s more like 3 and a half berries. What can I get for you today?”

lelandvassey:
“Sort of adults.” She repeated the words that had fallen from his lips, a soft chuckle falling from her own in accompaniment. It was a good way to phrase things, honestly. While her ID may have secured the knowledge that she was twenty-four, graduated from high school and over the idea of ever giving college another chance, at the age where people believed she likely had her life made up, a place for herself and some sort of exciting career path, or least the idea of it, she felt as though she fell short on it all. Living with her brother after losing her own home a few states away after a cash register mishap, one that really wasn’t her fault, she’d returned to the only home she knew, begrudgingly. She didn’t have a damn thing figured out. She wasn’t an adult. Only twenty-four. Only… sort of an adult.
She watched as the book closed, and a soft smile spread across her face, realizing that he’d given up studying in her presence. “California?” There was intrigue in her voice. “God, I wish I could find a place like that. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s been kind of nice seeing some of the familiar faces of Crownsville,” She offered a bright smile, as if to announce that he was one of them, “but I don’t belong here, anymore, Dalton.” She sighed, bringing her straw to her lips once more.”Nothin’ nearly as exciting as heading off to California. I moved a few states over for a while, and now I’m working at a fucking candy store, so clearly the ball’s not in my court.” She chuckled, never one to accept pity or talk down on herself without making a joke of it. She was quiet for a moment, focusing on her drink more than anything, before shifting in her seat, resting her elbow against the counter and her cheek to the palm of her hand. “It’s really good to see you, Dalt.” She finally spoke up, voice softer than anticipated.
it felt so odd to say out loud. dalton still felt like a kid in many ways. even in college when he was living his best life there were so many instances were he just felt like a child, trapped and afraid. but he had a degree and working on another, that had to count for something. dalton took a sip of his drink as he saw a sort of similar fear in leland’s eyes. even though he wasn’t going to peruse her but it was a bit of a relief to know that he wasn’t the only one. “isn’t that weird, last time we saw each other were kids, i don’t think i could even drive then.” he knew twenty one wasn’t bad and leland was only a few years older but time apart really did bring about change. he grinned widely when she said california, his heart skipping a beat thinking of it’s beauty. “yeah she’s great, i can’t remember where you went but if you get the chance to go anywhere else next, california is the place to go. i’d even offer to come along and be your tour guide. “ he laughed but he was completely serious about it. he took another sip of his drink and understood all too well the words coming out of her mouth. while it was something that he didn’t want to admit it , it made sense. he didn’t belong here for whatever reason. maybe they really were becoming adults. “it’s okay though that means you’ve got room for new adventure and shit. besides a candy store is pretty great, i work at the arcade , not exactly within the sport medicine field so there’s that.” he chuckled as he rested his head in his hand, looking up at her. “don’t think i’ve got it all figured out, or anyone for that matter. “ he gently patted her hand . “you’ll make it out, anywhere specific you’re looking at going?” he smiled, glad that he had found one friend still home. “you too, like you said familiar faces are nice. “

lelandvassey·:
A smile like that was almost impossible to forget, lighting up the boy’s entire face as it slowly crept across his lips, and like that, his name fell from her’s as well. “Dalton?” There was an eagerness in her tone, certain to make it known that she had missed the boy to some degree, excited to see him. “Live and in person,” She grinned, carefully moving to the stool next to her to close the gap between their seating arrangements.
He had a book out, and she couldn’t help swallowing hard as she peeked at the open pages, realizing it was a school book. Still, she took a sip from her straw and perked up in her chair, trying to appear better, at least in her own mind. “What’cha readin’?” She asked, a soft attempt at conversation. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it? How have you been?” Of course, she knew that question was a double edged sword, wanting to know the good things about somebody else while thinking up ways to lie about her own doings in the past year or so. With any luck, maybe he wouldn’t even have heard she left town for a while. Then she’d never have to explain why. Taking another sip, she peered over the boy. Cuter than the last time she’d seen him, that much was certain.
the young man’s brown eyes lit up as he fully began to remember her. he nodded and grinned as she said his name. he shrugged before looking back up at her. “it is i, actually back here.” he felt bad because he couldn’t really remember what she had been up to. even if she had told him, the last four years dalton had kind of forgotten all the people he had known in this town. four years was a long time, a lot was possible . besides it was nice to see a familiar face , so far he had felt like he had just seen new faces and it made it feel even weirder to be back.
dalton closed his book as she moved closer to him, there was no way he was going to concentrate now and he had been hoping for a distraction. before he had been able to she had peeked over and he shook his head, brushing it off. “just another biology book. you know boring school stuff.” dalton wanted to ask about school but had become distracted by her other question and he felt himself once again thinking about what it meant to be back. “yeah it has....first you left school and then i did and now we’re here...sort of adults?” he chuckled as he shook his head at the thought of actually being considered an adult. “really good actually. i almost didn’t come home cause california was just so amazing. it really felt like home. well it was but you know what i mean...it was so easy to belong.” he stopped as he realized he had been talking a lot. “how about you? it really has been forever and i’m sure you’ve been up to so much .” he took a sip of his drink and leaned back looking at such a warm and welcoming face.

dalton had been back for the summer now after graduating. yet old habits die hard and while dalton was technically back in town he had spent most of his summer out and about, traveling with friends to festivals, living the life he had gotten used to. but now that school was back in session, dalton was adjusting himself to being back to the small town life. while he missed the familiarity and how homey it felt , it still felt odd to him. while nothing was really all that new, it also was . he felt out of place as he walked down the streets he used to know. while dalton was trying to make the most of the decision he had made, he found himself trying to feel at home visiting places he knew.
while he wasn’t in class that day and had no work dalton missed what he usually did. he would have had drinks with the boys from the frat, made the day a whole adventure. here in crownsville, adventure wasn’t going to happen. yet there was a bar and a drink was what dalton needed. he sat himself down with a book from class. while he doubted the environment would help him actually learn it was worth a try. he was sipping on his whiskey he heard a somewhat familiar voice and looked up, his brown eyes searching for a face he knew. a smile crept on his face as he landed on one he swore he knew. as he sat up and turned to face the person he wondered where he knew her from. “leland?” the name sounded odd, having not said it in what seemed like forever. “is that you ?”
Being back in Crownsville was something Leland never imagined she would be dealing with, but there was no denying the allure of the small town once she’d settled back into a somewhat familiar routine, trying to distract her busy mind with a doting job as well as make all of her appointments on time, something that was proving to be more difficult than anticipated. After all, she only had to show up, right?
Today’s session had gone seemingly well. As well as it could have, at least. But, Leland always felt drained when she left, taking what the therapist had offered, only to shove it in to the back of her mind and drown the stories she’d shared with a drink, or six. Settling onto one of the stools at the local bar, she was doing just that, sipping at a tall mai tai through a straw, humming along to whatever poppy song was playing overhead. Easily making her way to a second glass, she let out a soft sigh, before deciding to pester the person next to her. After all, they seemed familiar, anyways - another subtle reminder that she was back home. Everyone seemed to know everyone. “I know you, don’t I?” She started out, stirring her straw around in her glass as she awaited an answer, already prepared to blame the alcohol for her lack of memory.

[ shawn mendes, twenty one, male, he/him ] ━ hey, I just saw [ dalton walsh ] walking down the streets of crownsville. they’ve lived in town for [ fifteen years ], and you can catch them around town working as a [ student / ready player one employee ]. I hear they’re known to be [ charismatic & trustworthy ] and [ ambigous & complaisant ]. if asked, they would say their aesthetic would be [ acoustic sets, baseball games in the heat of summer, music festivals, rolled up button ups, karoake bars , piano covers ].
BIO
dalton is the middle child of a nice, typical suburban family. his parents both doctors, were high school sweethearts and loved each other deeply. they lived in florida until dalton’s younger sister was born, deciding that crownsville was a better place to raise children. dalton was a very fortunate kid, growing up with so much love and not a worry in the world. being the middle child meant dalton kind of flew under the radar, it also helped that he was such a gentle simple soul. he was so easygoing and was able to get along with most people. also being the only boy in the family where the typical gender roles were applied, dalton saw himself protecting his sisters. that grew to him being a protective friend as well.
in school dalton was everyone’s friend, trying to find something in common with everyone. this made him extremely popular but also likable. he was a straight a student as well as being part of student government, the baseball team captain and he dabbled in piano and guitar playing as well as singing. he really was the perfect guy, he ruled the school a modern day troy bolton. of course being called an all american boy sometimes meant people called him boring...a vanilla guy. dalton never seemed to mind being a good ,normal guy. never bothered him until he was a senior in high school. he was okay with most guys wanting to be his friends and most girls thinking he was cute. he was a complete people pleaser and while that made him sweet, sometimes it made it seem like dalton had no backbone, he went with the flow instead of picking and choosing.
yet when it came to picking out colleges , he shocked everyone. while most thought dalton didn’t have it in him to move away from home and live life, that’s exactly what he wanted to. he wanted to show everyone he was a bit more than just a nice dude. he chose san fransisco , somewhere another friend was going, also wanting to try and see what the hype of california was. he didn’t realize it would change his mind so much. there dalton broke out of his exterior. he had always been personable but accepting to do things he had never done before made him even more likable. dalton started smoking weed and drinking, something he would have never done. he had sex, which he had always said he’d wait for. he started hanging out late and going to festivals. while he was still invested in school he wanted to get out there, be wild and perhaps not afraid.
while it was a bit scary for him to let loose and let go, dalton was having the time of of his life. he was realizing that he was still a good guy and he didn’t have to be perfect. so those four years he lived life to the fullest. he felt like he experienced life in a different way. so naturally dalton was saddened when it was over. he graduated and was going back to crownsville for his maters in sports medicine. while he missed home and the normality he was used to dalton was torn. he wasn’t who he used to be and was afraid some people would be put off by it. while he was more secure in who he was and happy with how he ended up, he was still afraid he was going to let some people down. now he’s in an awkward middle place where he isn’t sure who he’s supposed to be to everyone else.
FUN FACTS
dalton still is such a huge baseball fan, obvs the braves, and he plays often. he played all through college but realized he didn’t want to make it a career no matter how much he loved it.
it’s no surprise that dalton chose a medical field, that’s something that his whole family has decided to pursue, it runs in the family.
as he grew older and began going to music festivals, dalton’s learned how much he loves singing and playing the guitar. he also doesn’t think it’s a good career choice, afraid that it’s not something stable. yet he plays in clubs and for people all the time. he knows that he has talents and loves to show them off. he’s even been paid to play but it’s all just fun for him.
while he seems like a player dalton has only had two exes, a high school and one in college that was very on and off, and he’s only had sex with three people. while he has no problem with anything else dalton still had some old school morals. he’s also still afraid that with just about everything else he’s still a vanilla boring dude and girls don’t think he’s good in bed just cute.
while he gets a lot of attention, dalton does also fear that he’s just cute and not hot. much like most people he can be insecure and it’s something he’s working with.
ok that’s all i have sorry it took forever but love me
