"And you need to point it out too," she laughed softly as he adjusted himself to further address the situation. Dominique let out a gentle sigh, letting her book rest on her stomach as she let herself look at him. One of her hands absentmindedly reached out to tangle in his hair as she thought about what she'd been pondering now that Raphael had asked her about it. "i think the author's forgotten the character's motives– it just feels out of character for him to forget about why he started the journey in the first place. I don't see why he'd stray off for this... side quest I suppose," she was now picking the book up again and waving it around a bit, pointing to the page with a rather calm and collected frustration. "I really hope he recognizes this in the next few chapters otherwise this is going to be a very unsatisfying ending."

"Once my brain notices something, I can't unsee it." Or unhear it in this case he supposed. Raphael set his book down to one side and twisted to turn to face Dominique, still half draped across her lap. One hand was idly stroking the top of her thigh in a gentle, rhythmic pattern. "And just what is this character like and what should be changed about it?" He was genuinely curious about how she saw what it was she was reading. "I'm interested to hear your professional opinion."

"I don't see the reason to turn down the opportunity," she shrugged with a little smile when the woman offered to help her how to be a better competitor. "It'll be a fun party trick and I feel like it might be unexpected if someone underestimates me and I'm able to actually dominate in this."

"I don't blame you. I've never been the type to back down either." Everleigh agreed with a smile as she moved a little closer. "Well... maybe this can be more of a practice experience for you then? Not a competition. I can teach you how to take down others." She said with a little laugh. "Assuming there is someone you would like to take down."

"I see," she quirked a brow at Jaiyash's entrance. "So you're planning to blame this all on me if he gets upset about you being in a bookstore that's not his own? I hardly see how that's fair when you're a grown man and can make your own choices," Dom snorted lightly in reply. "So are you here to see me or the books? Because now it's unclear," she added playfully.

"Just don't tell Jo I've been in here... Can you imagine trying to explain that considering he runs a bookshop." Jaiyash stated, almost hushing himself as he rested his index finger over his lips. "But I figured I had to come see you and you know me... I can't resist the smell of freshly opened books."

"So you're keeping tabs?" her instinct always to deflect, blinking up from her page when he'd cut through the silence to call her out. Dominique had been enveloped by the comfort of their quiet intimacy, she was enjoying spending the day in lazily plopped onto her couch and just enjoying each other's presence as they did their own things. "I guess I got lost in thought," she considered with a light hum. "I began to rewrite what I think this character should be doing and I let myself forget I was actually reading," Dom then admitted, looking back at the page to find the words she'd left off on.

"I'm fairly certain you've been on that same page for the past five to ten minutes." Raphael finally spoke up in the quiet of the room that was only broken by the sound of soft instrumental music being played in the background. He was comfortably stretched out on Dominique's couch, a socked foot half hanging off the side whilst his head was perched against her lap. They'd been enjoying one anothers company like this for a good while now, neither one speak but that wasn't necessarily needed. His eyes strayed from his own book to look up over the top of his glasses, head tilting back slightly. "Something on your mind?"

"I know you are," Dom replied with a light bow of her head, "And I also know that you'll get there in time. I don't doubt it for a second." She'd always admired the way Victoire could still keep her head up high after all the pressure that was thrust upon her. She could never do that, it's why she'd slunk back into the shadows the moment she'd had the chance. She sometimes wondered if some more of the family pressure had fallen onto her shoulders because of that. "Of course there is. I hate that 'plenty fish of the sea' saying but... statistically it's true. There's just so many people out there. Any of them would be lucky to have you."

"I'm working on it," Victoire replied, nodding. As one of the elder cousins, she always felt some pressure to set the example and she supposed by listening to what her parents wanted for her, her mother in particular, she hadn't been setting that example. She admired her younger sister for not succumbing to those pressures and finding her own freedom, "You're right. There has to be someone who I can click with."

"I'm grateful too," Dominique smiled. There had actually been a world where she'd been considering a move to France. Not only to be closer to Clementine but also to escape her family and put a little distance there. The way things had played out in the end had somehow worked out perfectly though. "Now that things are the way they hard, it's hard to imagine you never moving in with me. I love having you as a housemate."

"You do not need to tell me that." It wasn't something that Clementine needed to be told, because Dominique deserved that much from her anyway and she always showed her in other ways. "Neither do I. It is perhaps the thing I am most grateful for when I think about my move from France. It allowed me to be closer to you." They had always really gotten along but the depth of their bond had really shown since she'd come here.

"I would truly just be mortified. I'm a very private person so I just... nope – nope – can't even imagine," she shook her head with a nervous laugh at the mere thought. "I hope they manage to solve or manage their differences in a more... private setting. I feel like it's just more productive that way but maybe it's just a me thing."

"Oh yeah, for sure. I'm not actively seeking out other people's business," Ciara replied, "But if it's basically being presented on a silver platter then why would I not listen?" she shrugged, "I feel like I would at least whisper shout if I needed to argue in public but I don't think I'd ever be that caught up that I don't notice people around me."

"Well you should be considerate about how much space and time you have. The bigger and/or more energetic the dog, the more of that you have to devote to them, you know?" Dominique looked at this practically. "You do seem like a medium dog person to me but I also figure a smaller dog might be easier to care for depending on your schedule. Have you got any favorite breeds? Or were you going to go for a rescue maybe?"

"I'm just saying, getting a dog might be nice," Alec replied. "I mean it is a little bit lonely in my place, the question is what kind of dog should I get?"

"Sure thing. I mean it's up to you to try whatever foods you want to try after all," Dominique shrugged. "It's the best way to figure out what you like and what you don't."

"Perhaps I should form my own opinions on it. I mean sugary and sweet can work together, there are plenty of other examples of it."

"You have spent so much of your life trying to do what everyone asks or expects of you, Vic. Please try and start following through with what you want," Dominique told her sister. It's why she kept her family at such a distance most of the time, it helped her release the pressures of what they seemed to expect of her. It made her feel like she had more freedom to pursue her own whims and interests. "I'd say that's a great plan. As cliché as it is, there are so many people out there. It's damn near impossible that there aren't some out there that you'll click with naturally."

"Maybe that's how I need to phrase it for myself. Making more time for my own life and ensuring I do things that I want to do and not just work and what everybody else wants to do," Vic replied with a smile, "Yeah, even I would find it baffling though I'm sure maman would be pleased," she added. She still was very low contact with Fleur, still working on her own feelings about being forced to give her baby up, "Let's start with meeting more people and hope that love comes along with it."

"Like let's be so real here– objectively it sounds like it would not make sense but the flavor profiles end up complimenting each other in a way that most wouldn't expect," she replied. "It is not my go-to order by any means, but I won't turn my nose up at if offered to me if that makes sense."

"Yeah, I'm thinking about getting that one," Pippa replied, "But I've heard controversial things about Hawaiian, like you said. I am a pineapple fan to be honest."

"That may be so, but wanting to find that balance is already getting you one step closer. I'm sure there's ways you can make sure you're still making enough time for yourself and your life outside of your job," Dominique offered up supportively. "Yeah if you got all of that done in a year I'd be both impressed and terrified about how fast that went," she admitted with a laugh. "But hopefully you can get out there and meet more people this year."

"I mean, I guess getting a better work-life is in the cards for me but with my job, that's sometimes out of my control," she admitted, "But most of my goals are not things I want to contain to a year, like finding love and settling down."

"I suppose you're right. I don't know why. Like... sure it's exciting to a degree but are we all really that excited about a new date on the calendar?" her tone appearing rather unimpressed. "You won't catch me complaining about that– let's see if there's someplace we can celebrate that's more comfortable for the both of us."

"We probably should have done though. Everywhere seems to adore celebrating the New Year." And she did get it of course but that didn't always mean it was easy to handle. There were some benefits though of course and that was why she continued to come out. "I'll be fine now that I'm out of there but I can only handle so much of places quite that busy. Maybe we can find somewhere a little less... hectic?" Clementine suggested for when they were done being outside.

"I'm not planning on getting hammered or anything but it's sweet of you to share," Dominique replied appreciatively as she took a few sips from the bottle. "Have you been having a good nice, Alice?"

"Hey, Dom!" Alice exclaimed, waving at the other. She was feeling slightly more light-hearted but perhaps that was the champagne talking, "You want some?" she asked, holding up the bottle she had been filling her glass with, "Pr-Probably best for me to share or I'll h-have too much," she admitted with a giggle.

"Cannot say I blame you," she agreed, following her cousin out into the chilly December night air. "I could not have anticipated it'd be this crowded. I've been reminded why I often avoid big parties like this," Dominique added, moving to lean against the exterior of the building. "I am, yeah. Thanks. A little overstimulated but I'll be alright. And you? Hopefully it's cold enough out here that it'll cool you down," she mentioned, noticing how Clem was fanning herself.

"Any more time in there and one might be liable to faint." Clementine gasped out softly, fanning herself furiously with her hands now that they'd made it out of the rammed building. She liked the atmosphere but she could have definitely done without just how busy it was. Yet, she still couldn't seem to draw herself away. "Are you alright?"
