⠀hastily typed as I cook—⠀but there's a pretty rare and kinda fascinating phenomenon where a hen can develop traits associated with roosters.⠀apparently happens when their ovary is damaged or shrinks, potentially even if there's no rooster at all in the flock so one of them needs to act as the leader;⠀in such cases the hen develops spurs, stops laying eggs altogether, maybe even crows among other rooster behaviors.
