“I know this is going to sound insane but I just watched Encanto and I’m not okay.” The choices for their entertainment were slim but, even so, Devi would have picked it anyway. That movie got to her every time. “Have you seen it? Or do you have an incredible way of making me feel better? Cause I’ll take either one.” / @quaalude

to be in her good books , humoured with her attention , it was a feat and you could so easily slide in the opposite direction . not a mistress of cruelty but certainly blunt with high expectations , she rolls her eyes , “ hm . i suppose not . i’ll have to find something else to hold against you , “ a glimmer in her eye , the edge of flirtation that so easily slipped in and out of conversation whenever she spoke , an attentiveness to the woman in front of her . “ for now i will have to be fine with that . although , let’s not be friends just yet … i wouldn’t want to bring my wrath if you ever betrayed me after we reached that level , “ a smile smile peaks on her lips , a promise of how cut throat she really could be if someone close to her dared stab her in the back .
.
“If you need something, could I offer my dad like sense of humor? It rubs some people the wrong way.” People who didn’t love a clever yet horrible joke. Devi wasn’t completely oblivious to the more flirtatious tone that graced her words but she had a feeling it was just in her mind. “You are...very interesting and I think I like it. I definitely respect it and if you don’t wanna be friends to protect me from your future wrath, I can’t be mad about it.” Devi knew she was a lot for people sometimes but it felt like Reese was too but in a vastly different way. Big personalities would be filling this house and this was already the first sign of it. Not in a bad way though, not at all. “But does this mean we could never be friends?”

“ oh yeah , you’re lucky they didn’t try and put you on that tattoo show with snooki . ” though he couldn’t imagine devi actually allowing someone to pick out a random tattoo for her the idea of it made him chuckle none the less . “ it’s alright though , nobody says i can’t find a lil shorty to take home while we’re here . ” maybe it would be a good idea to at least watch clips of the prior season , if only to have some idea of what kind of hell would be in store for them , “ let me ask , there’s a producer whose been making eyes at me since i got in the house . ”
.
“Snooki has a tattoo show?” Devi didn’t know the current thought about Ms. Snooks but she was a big fan. That woman knew how to entertain and had a business? Damn. She had almost convinced Devi that cheetah print was a must have in your closet. Thankfully, she’d moved on but she still loved a bold print every now and then. Without meaning to, her eyes roamed over him before quickly snapping away, looking at her drink and praying he didn’t notice as she tried to play it off. “Yeah, yeah, I could see that for you,” she tried to say casually, as she took another gulp of her drink. “Really? Already? Damn, at least you know you’re gonna be edited well.” A boon in this situation. “Maybe I should hang out with you more so I can get some residual good editing.”

isla pauses, lips pursed as she thinks over her response. “i’d like to think she was being genuine,” but liking something doesn’t always make it true. “if she was just acting, she should have earned a film deal for her skills. then again, maybe she just really needed the money.” that amount of money could make a huge difference in someone’s life, too important for many to say no to. at the mention of fighting for the same thing, isla’s reminded that her objective is not about the money. truthfully, she isn’t even that concerned with winning, just enjoying the escape the show provides for as long as she can. “i guess both works…nice to watch your back? nice to compete against you?” isla suggests, a light smile indicating her own attempt at a joke.
.
Devi nodded enthusiastically at that. If the whole thing had been a show? If she’d been able to keep up the act for that long and then blindside them? That was pathological and deserved an award...or some kind of therapy and observation. “You know, she was a personal assistant before maybe she went into the industry?” It did seem like that performance could open doors if that was the goal. Echoing her smile, Devi laughed softly. “I like that. Nice to compete against you. If I’m honest with you, Isla, I don’t know how far I’m gonna get in this but I’m gonna try my best.”

Puns. The bane of Darcy’s existence. Her father was quite fond of them, but she felt they were the lowest form of humor. “I don’t doubt that,” she said, hiding her disappointment that Devi wasn’t keen to make a deal. This girl seemed harmless. She fit the girl next door trope to a T. Letting out a laugh, Darcy nodded at their names sounding good together. Would make one hell of a podcast title, frankly. “People are making a hashtag about us as we speak.”
.
“So...no puns then?” Devi asked, shrugging with a laugh. She wasn’t all that surprised considering most people considered them to be lowbrow humor but she couldn’t help it! They were constantly rolling off the tongue. Unless she was in the middle of a particularly horrible case on the podcast, she was able to hold it back then. “If there’s something else I have that could help, that aren’t my incredible puns, I’m down to hear about it.” That’s what this whole show was about right? Nodding enthusiastically, Devi finished off her drink and looked around for somewhere to set it down. “As they should be,” she stated, placing on a passing tray. “It’d be an incredible hashtag.” Better than the one she was currently associated with. “Screams power duo.”

Saying he was a little out of his element would have been an understatement. When Josh applied, the thought that he would actually get selected for the show was laughable at best, yet somehow here he was – lights beaming down and cameras following the every move of the people that been chosen. He had a beer clutched in his grasp, a lifeline of sorts as he took in, well, everything, the overwhelming feeling growing slightly upon the brunettes approach. His eyes widened incrementally as she spoke on, offering a small lift of his shoulder at the question that was posed. “ More of a Joshua? “
.
To say that this guy looked like a deer in headlights would have been a vast understatement and somehow his eyes got even wider when she walked up to him. Holding her hands up in surrender, she tried to give him an approachable smile. “I do come in peace, promise....Joshua, yeah? Good choice, I should have realized more people would go for a different answer but I didn’t really think it through.” she admitted with a laugh. letting her hands fall. “You seem a tad bit nervous, if I’m being honest. Are you alright?”

“ I’m a Maritza. ” While knowing full well that wasn’t the answer the other was looking for, Maritza couldn’t help the words lift off her tongue in some sort of cheeky response after a beat of a manicured nail tapped against her chin as if she was truly in thought. As a devoted viewer of several reality tv shows, Maritza had the knowledge to answer that question with ease for something real and she still chose her own spin on it thanks to this pesky incessant need to make everything ( almost ) all about her and comparing herself to the stars of seasons past just didn’t feel as on brand as she would have liked. Only the figure beside her seemed sweet enough and she was only teasing. In all honesty, she was neither of the options; more-so like a blend of all three with characteristics pulling from each. Maritza scooted over some more as they sat by the edge of the pool and nudged the other lightly with their shoulder, brows wiggled. “ And you? What part of that Neapolitan ice cream best suits you? ”
.
“Should’ve expected that.” Devi bemused, laughing softly. Most people would have fallen into picking one of them without realizing they were giving something away. But it didn’t come as a surprise that people found the loop hole. “I’m partial to the chocolate part of the neopolitan but I won’t say no to any of it - mixing them is the best way to eat it though.” And she’d stand by that until she died. The people who snuck in and ate all the chocolate or strawberry were demons ( looking at her younger brother here ). “But if we’re using this ice cream as a metaphor I’m still going to say a mix and leave the horrible choices part behind.” She admitted with a soft laugh. “Though I will say May might have been the most surprising and in a way that might make her the best.”

“ Makes you feel a little less alone? ” He guessed, knowing he liked hearing someone else that sounded like him. Especially when he was younger, visiting his mother and sticking out like a sore thumb. “ So, who would be your choice, then? ” Spencer shook his head, realizing she would of course draw that conclusion. Who wouldn’t? “ No, no, that’s not why I–… I just think he was misunderstood, you know? He seemed real. I feel for him is all. ”
.
“A little bit. Like I’m not so far from home.” Though Devi traveled quite often for her job, she was never gone from Newcastle for too long. Never for this extended of a time...although, if she got kicked out of the house quickly, it wouldn’t be that long after all. “I get that. I felt badly for him but if I had to pick, I felt the most bad for Clayton after that May move.” Losing both the money and having your heartbroken like that? Devi wasn’t sure if she would recover from that. “I don’t know if I’d choose any of them either, May was ruthless though if you go by strategy.”

Open book, okay. That’s what anyone would say, right? But an actually honest person would also be saying that, so… Carla’s best approach here was to assume she knew nothing about anyone, and keep it that way for a while. Which she fully intended to do, until the girl called her smart. She didn’t hear that all the time and, even if it might have been a lie, it made her like this person a little bit more. “It’s an everchanging game, right? What happened last season can’t be repeated, because we all know the first season already.” Maybe she was pretty smart. She shared the same genes as her genius big sister, so she must have brought some of that intelligence here. “Strategy aside, what are you most excited for here, though? I can see you’re already a fan of the show.”
.
“True and there would definitely be red flags immediately if someone even tried to pull one of their moves.” Unless they did it really well and no one saw it coming but that was a lot of layers and it was hard to imagine someone would come in with that much planning done. Otherwise, alarms would be going off in everyone’s head. “Ugh, I know. I’m not even going to try and hide it because soon enough I’ll be referencing it and not even realize. Better to come clean now.” Devi admitted not at all ashamed that she had been such a fan herself. “I’m excited to see what kind of challenges we get, they’re always so fun to watch and I’ve convinced myself I’d be the best at them but I’m sure I’m in for a shock when we actually do them.”

That was fair enough but still, she wasn’t about to share what her intentions where so she didn’t have the energy to argue. Kairi looks at her over her glass as she brought it up to her lips, she could see the hesitation and she had to wondered if the other was just being a light weight or a bore. They decided it was both when Devi only took a sip. “Oh, yeah, definitely believable.” Good girl vibes for sure. They took another drink from their glass, that guy is gonna need to come right back around. “So are you into anyone yet?”
.
At their reaction, Devi knew things were going well so far. Sure, everyone else was letting loose but she knew better than to give into it so quickly. Some would call it a problem but she called it functional alcoholism. The fact she wasn’t on her fifth glass was a miracle and the longer she held onto the good girl vibes, the better. “I don’t think I’ve met everyone yet, definitely a lot of attractive people so far though.” That couldn’t be denied. “What about you? Or do you really not give a fuck cause you’re only interested in the money? Which I’d totally get by the way.”

did aless have regrets ? often times he told himself the answer was no but maybe he was just too much of a spring chicken , the crippling regret hadn’t caught up to him yet ! “ luckily for you , i do not intend to carry out any murder or even crime … “ other than maybe low key crimes against reality tv contestants but those weren’t real crimes , this was all fiction . it was funny how people believed being on tv meant things weren’t real , himself included . “ this is just the easy part … in no time at all maybe you and i will be mortal enemies . i bet there is a fighting spirit in there somewhere … it’s always the ones you least expect . “
.
“That’s good to know.” Devi teased, finishing off yet another glass of champagne and wondering if that was a horrible decision but not caring too much as another tray passed by and she could grab another glass. The whole point was that they were drunk, right? “What?” she asked, immediately taking that thought very seriously. “Why would we ever be mortal enemies?” Devi didn’t want that to happen with anyone. In her ideal world everyone would like her or at least be ambivalent towards her and she’d make it to the end where - well, that wasn’t important. The only important thing was making it to the finale. “If there is...doesn’t mean we have to be on opposite sides. Just saying.”

“So I’ve already been told someone might hate me because we’re roommates...I don’t really know what that means but it must be good, right?” Or it was horrible but Devi wanted to assume it was a good thing. And, so far, Alaia seemed like the kind of person you’d want to be aligned with. Better a friend than an enemy. / @alaiamcretti
