A little reminder for anyone who needs it,
Especially around Mother’s Day, there’s often a lot of stuff being said and pushed everywhere from social media posts, to advertisement emails, to other people in your life directly saying it to you, talking about how “you should always love your mother”, and “your mother did so much for you, you owe her”, and “you’re so lucky to have your mother, you should be so grateful for everything she did that was all for you”, and all that same old stuff.
No. Obviously some people do have great relationships with their mothers who did do things right, they get along great, it’s loving and wonderful, and all that stuff. But that is absolutely not always the case. Someone being your mother does not mean they’re infallible. It does not mean they’re allowed to hurt you and you should just have to deal with it. It does not mean you owe them love, or forgiveness, or a place in your life, just because they’re your mother.
Just because ‘it’s Mother’s Day!’ doesn’t mean you have a responsibility to give praises, or love, or contact to your mother after they hurt you.
If they abused you, that is in no way your fault. If they abused you, it’s not because you ‘did something wrong’, it’s not because ‘they made a mistake and you need to give them more grace’, it’s not because you were ‘too difficult of a child’, or any other shit like that. It’s because they’re an abuser, and no amount of ‘just being more careful’ that you possibly could’ve done would’ve prevented them from being an abuser.
If you are safer/healthier/happier without your parent in your life, it’s completely ok of you to stick to that. You don’t owe your parent a relationship, you don’t owe them interaction, you don’t owe them forgiveness. You are a person who deserves to be safe, and it’s not your job to sacrifice that to give your parent the relationship they might say they want or that people might try to say you owe them.
Stay safe, take care of yourself, remember that you are lovable and worthy and don’t deserve to be treated that way. And if you are currently stuck in a situation where you are made to see this person, I’m so sorry. It’s not your fault, it’s not something you deserve, and I’m wishing you all the best.

17 and 33 for the ask game? ❤️
Thank you so much for asking!
17: I’m quite proud of how my fantasy au is going. It’s admittedly been a bit since I put out an update, but I think the writing itself might be some of my best work. I’m also very proud of how the plotting for my Payneland tattoo artist/piercer au is going. (Although I won’t start actually writing it until I’m back home with my books.)
33: Charles. Definitely Charles. I just want to wrap him up in a warm blanket and keep him all safe and happy. (Except for when he suffers so well in my writing)
