azzy won't jump straight into hunting. he wants a plan no matter what, and he cements this into the hunters he trains. there is no just... throwing yourself into a situation and hoping for the best. azzy needs things thought out and gone over five, six, seven times. he wants other people to see the plans and point out any flaws or other options that they see. azzy isn't... reckless? about hunting. he's reckless in other areas of his life, sure, and can sometimes be seen as a bit reckless during a fight. but azzy also trusts a plan that went through a million different stages just to get to the action part. and... sometimes you have to think with your gut, not your brain, and that can easily be seen as careless.

my own symbolism drives me bonkers. something about the hounds being called the hounds. azzy being one of the most loyal dogs out of all of them. there's no quarry he won't go after - a hunting hound going after rabbits, wolves, stags, lions. diving after the boar and the bear. how a hound is fundamentally independent, because they need to make decisions on their own. how a hound is also fundamentally dependent, because at their core they work with humans and will always come back to them. loyal and dangerous both. azzy is the dog who will hunt a snake without the command to do so and bring it back proudly going look! the dangerous thing is dead. are you proud of me?

lotus :   has your muse ever felt as though they’ve been reborn ?have they ever desired the feeling of a fresh start ,   or a better understanding of themself and/or the world around them ?

yes, I think he has felt like he’s been reborn, even if he himself wouldn’t describe it that way. it happened when col finally found him and gave him a renewed purpose in his life, something he had felt he was missing after his brother died. I’d dare say that up until that point he had been a bit lost, too. he was always trying to find his place in the world. he couldn’t find it at school, he couldn’t really find it in his family. he tried really hard to find it alongside his brother, but even that left him uncomfortable and bitter in the end.

so yes, he’s always desired to have a better understanding of himself and the world. I think he’s still looking for it, honestly. the hounds isn’t his end, it was never meant to be. azzy gets to learn while he’s part of it, and he gets to learn the most at the very end of his experience with the hounds.
