The Summer so far has been a calm one, something that most in Sanctuary find to be a welcome change in pace from the harsh Winter and difficult Spring. There are still issues cropping up, and unseen trouble lurking behind every corner, but the bright sunny days make it a bit easier to smile. With food stocks high, and the water supply full, some folks have had the bright idea to hold a party! So come on outside, enjoy the sun, get some food, and play some games!
Things to do:
BBQ Pit: Off the side of the Town Hall you can grab some grub! They have almost all the classics! There’s fresh salads, all manners of potatoes, burgers, chicken, and someone even managed to hand make some sausages! And what party is complete without something to drink? Inside Town Hall itself, there’s a bar set up with a fair amount of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic!
Snow Cones: Probably the most popular spot during this Heat wave, one of the runners found this little machine while out scavenging and managed to drag it all the way back to Sanctuary! There isn’t the largest selection of flavoring since we have to rely on picked berries and fruits, but it's a cool treat on a hot day, and what’s better than that?
Games: There’s quite a few games that have popped up around town! You can find yourself playing in an impromptu game of soccer, volleyball, basketball, or football- or you can find yourself lounging in the shade playing one of the many board games that Sanctuary has accrued over the years. But no matter your preference, there’s definitely a whole lot to do!
This event will last from Friday, the 26th, to Monday, the 29th. Current run threads will be considered to be happening after the event.

Biography
BEFORE OUTBREAK:
There were few keepsake moments in Quincy’s early life. Born the oldest of five, he was met with the cruelty of their parents first. He did his best to shield his younger sibling, Riley, but he was only six years old at the time. He doted on her, keeping her away from most of the harm their parents wished to inflict on them; fed her and changed her diapers. A few years after, Wesley and Rooney were born, Riley and Quincy did the same for them. All of his treasured memories were the ones he had with Riley and the siblings that followed. When he had turned sixteen, he managed to lie his way into an after school job. He knew leaving his ten year old sister to take care of the twins was not ideal, but there was little else he could do. Their parents weren’t providing for their children and Quincy had been threatened enough by them to know that if anyone found out, they would all be separated. Long nights at a job where he was paid under the table led to his grades slipping, and teachers became concerned. His teachers had a right to be concerned, he interacted with them and others in his class with a minimal amount of effort, practically falling asleep in most of his lessons – but none of them intervened. He needed it to be that way if he was going to keep his siblings out of the system and with him, where he knew they would be safe.
Perhaps it was for his own comfort, his selfish desire to speak of the dreams he had for them as if that would make it turn into reality, but Quincy made promises to Riley every night since she was a baby. He would save them, get a job, become famous, anything to get them out of the clutches of their parents. As he neared his eighteenth birthday, he became desperate. He would be kicked out of his parents’ house and separated from Riley and Rooney. That part was inevitable. Without any money or a means to take custody of them, Quincy began to panic. Then a fateful career day happened at his school, and a naval recruiter came to talk to his class. A plan began to form in his head. Quincy talked his parents into signing the paperwork so he could enlist by promising them a share of his salary to smooth it over, and set up a fund for Riley, so she could take care of herself and Rooney. He wrote them every chance he could, but military life began to change him.
For the first time, newly turned eighteen year old Quincy had full meals and a regiment where he got sleep and the results began to show as he excelled in basic training. He’d never had a mind for school, but with no other distractions, Quincy was able to dedicate more time to study. His history of befriending others was a very short and long-dead list that had ended sometime in his middle school years, but here, he found friendship with the other sailors. He immersed himself in the military life and made connections, seeing it as a means to fulfill his dream, and after four years of serving, with his contract up, he came home only to find that he had no siblings to return to.
Riley had written him a lot, with the occasional inclusion of Rooney and Wesley’s letters and drawings but they had stopped abruptly while he was mid-tour. He had thought it suspicious and was proven right. They had been taken into foster care, their parent’s abuse exposed while Quincy wasn’t around. However hard he tried, he couldn’t get a lead on where they had been taken. Months turned into years and he fell back into the military life, going back to school part time with the single-minded goal of reuniting with the rest of his family permanently.
AFTER OUTBREAK:
With the world in disarray, it did not take long for the military to fall apart. He was stationed in Hawai'i en route to California when news came through. The military had been acting strange with their deployment rates but Quincy was on a ship where flow of information was stilted at best. When shit hit the fan he was near the bottom levels of the ship. Some type of breach had happened and Quincy thought it was some surprise attack. Only, when he was met face to face with fellow soldiers attacking one another, did he realize this was on a whole other level. He and a few others fought their way to the other sea vessels, taking as many survivors as they could. They barely made it to the coast of California to find it ravaged by the same illness that had infected their ship.
It felt as if a lifetime had passed, with no means of knowing whether or not Riley or Rooney was alive, if Beanie had even made it past infancy, but Quincy finally made it across the border of Colorado. He had long lost track of the time it took to get there, but he clung to the picture of his siblings as he came upon Sanctuary. It was going to be a pit stop before he started his hunt for his siblings, a fool’s errand but the only one that had kept him alive for so long. It felt like pay off of a lifetime’s misery to find Rooney alive, the miracle that it was to finally reunite with one of his siblings. With his arrival, however, came the horde and the threat of losing her again when he was left trapped inside the bunker by the other survivors while Rooney was out. It was with a dizzying relief that Quincy was able to find Rooney again after the horde passed and he was no longer held captive. Now six months have passed which he has spent trying to help rebuild Sanctuary, search for his other siblings, and heal the rift between him and Rooney.

Hey Anon!
I know that I, personally, prefer to write my apps in third person, but if you feel like first person is the way to go, then feel free to write it in first person! In character information:
Full Name: Santiago Salazar Age: 36 Gender: Non-binary (Agender, uses They/Them pronouns) Place of Origin: East Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California FC: Manny Montana Role within the community: Sharpshooter How long have they been in Sanctuary: 2 months
Traits:
Skillful

Biography
Santi was always a child of two countries. Their parents were migrant workers, hoping to get through another season and back to Mexico before Jacinta gave birth to her third child. They weren’t successful and were faced with the heart wrenching choice of giving their child a better life in America, through their birth right citizenship, or return to their two children in Mexico and take that opportunity away. They chose the former, and sent for their other two children when they were able to.
Santiago grew up knowing this painful choice, and it colored their relationship with their family. They avoided trouble and street gangs, did good in school, careful in their friendships and independent in their personal life. They built up an ice wall, sharp and a warning to stay away. Their parents wanted them to be a golden child, their older siblings resented them for ripping them away from their home in Mexico. They were always aware of their position as the future of their family. And one place that offered them a promise of a brighter future was the military.
They were recruited right out of high school, told they would be escaping their life. What they didn’t quite realize was that while they escaped the street gangs, they were joining a legalized gang, flying the flag of the United States. They were broken down, and reformed in the image that their country wanted them in. Santiago became Santi. A quiet, intense and lonely child became one of loud violence and brotherhood, assuming an identity created in accordance with an overall whole.
They were always good at math, followed directions well, could work without being told how to do their task. Handpicked for their performance in their training, they became a sniper. Santi expected to do their tour, get in and get out, and come back to their family in Los Angeles as easy as they left. Afghanistan had different plans for them. Their spotter they went through training with, killed within their first five days in country. Then another spotter, three months in. Santi became cursed, had a reputation of being the most deadly sniper for their spotters.
Nobody wanted to work with them, and they became angry, withdrawn, discontent. Then came a disaster, 15 days designated as MIA with their third spotter who was injured and later died. When they got rescued, they wanted out. Out of the military, out of their family, out of society, out of the United States itself. They went to Mexico, and cut off all contact with anyone who knew them.
Mexico was a different world for Santi. With no expectations on them, they felt no need to follow any legality or moral code, only to survive. They worked for cartels, police and communities as a gun for hire, a confusing blur of loyalties destroyed, sometimes killing people they had worked with only a week before. They were simply a weapon for the highest bidder, and regarded as a boogeyman’s worst nightmare.
Yet when Santi felt like they couldn’t sink any lower, be any less human, that’s when she found them. She was the head of a community’s effort to fight back against the police corruption and cartels that had killed so many. She hired Santi and gentled the wolf they had become, bending their head to bridle. She broke Santi human again, and made them a father.
When Santi learned she was pregnant, they married her and moved back to Los Angeles. It was awkward avoiding where Santi had been and what they had been doing in the years away, but Santi tried to settle down. Their new wife was well received by their family, regardless of where she had come from, and the news of a child even more so. Things seemed to be on the upswing for Santi, a baby almost born and their family welcoming them back, but then the outbreak happened.
Their child was likely one of the last babies to be ever issued a birth certificate in Los Angeles. Santi’s wife was still in the recovery ward when the sick started flooding the hospital. It was a miracle they survived, with a newborn baby, but by the time they were able to make it back to Santi’s family, they had either disappeared in the rush of people fleeing or died. Santi was never sure because they had to flee too due to a horde.
It was suddenly only Santi and her again, facing off against the world out to get them. Santi trained her in the use of weapons. They avoided the living and the dead equally, retreating into caring for each other and only for each other. But of course, it was no longer only them. They searched for diapers and formula as much as bullets and cans of food. Santi found themselves giving up food to his wife to ensure their child would have food.
They traveled for quite a while together, drawing close around their tiny family and thinking only for the future of their child. However, it wasn’t destined to last. They were separated, and Santi ended up at the Sanctuary. Their agreement was that if they ever got separated, they would wait for the other at the nearest encampment, until the other found them. Santi is still waiting.

Do you guys do any kinds of plot drops? Nearby raider groups, approaching hordes, those kinds of 'all hands on deck' emergency situations? I LOVE zombie apocalypse stuff and I love a lot of action, haha.
Hey anon!
So, I don’t wanna spoil anything for our writers just yet, but we do have some fun stuff coming up! We’ve previously had a Horde event, where Sanctuary was swarmed which did cause some problems that our wonderful characters are currently dealing with, so don’t worry, you’ll be seeing some action!
