This is a little old (a final from last semester!) but here is the Marlowe Dobbe Recipe Card Library.
This was a project I modeled after the Betty Crocker Recipe Card Library. I made a little recipe box by hand, and filled it with cards that I wrote and illustrated myself. I wanted it to look like a dated old thing you’d pick up at a garage sale, cause that was the vibe the original cards seemed to give off. (70’s food photography is both amazing and horrifying, by the way)
The twist to this project is that each of the foods depicted are foods that I cannot eat due to my dietary restrictions, and the recipes on the back are not recipes, but instructions that lead you through the awkward social situations one experiences with dietary restrictions that are real, and not just part of a fad diet.
Anyway, here are some photos of the actual box, with all my wrappings, as well as the fronts and backs of each recipe card! I got some nice feedback from fellow classmates that I captured the social anxiety of dietary restrictions, so I hope those of you out there with some of your own can feel some solidarity!
Enjoy!

An in-class assignment where we had to a spot illustration based on an NPR story about marketing baby carrots to teens: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130321785
So of course Justin Bieber’s Calvin Klein photo shoot had to be utilized for good.
