I noticed that many fans consider John Winchester to be a good father. So, I want to express my opinion here.

John Winchester is a 3-year-old father. He didn't do anything for his sons. I'll make a reservation: for my OFFICIAL sons. (For Adam, he was father number 1.)

Let me explain my point of view: John, instead of providing his sons with a decent life, spent all their savings on ammunition and weapons. Instead of dealing with them and their upbringing, John went on the hunt for the one who killed his wife.

If you go through the timing of the series, at least for the first seasons, it's clear that John clearly didn't want to mess with Dean and Sam. He was deliberately avoiding them! And then, when he suddenly needed their help, he showed up. Hello, I'm your dad, let's go hunting.

John Winchester didn't come and didn't answer the phone when Dean was in the hospital and dying! His son was dying, and he didn't care!

John did not establish contact with the children when he showed up. He just yelled at Dean for not telling him that Sam was having visions. And how can you inform the unknown bata if he does not answer the phone?

When Dean ended up in a coma in the second season of the first episode, and his father survived, even then he only cared about catching Azazel, but not about his eldest son dying in the ward. It was only when Sam yelled at him, when it infuriated Dean, that John came to his senses and decided to give his life for Dean....

but!! Let's not forget that before John died, he told Dean everything and demanded to kill his brother! Did a good father allow himself to do that?! I doubt it! Moreover, how fortunate: he dumped all responsibility on his eldest son (as in childhood) and dumped him into the next world. No, well, it's just awesome...

How was Dean supposed to feel when he heard this from his father? He's been watching Sam since he was a baby, following his father's orders: "Take care of Sam!", and now he's being told to kill what he loves with all his heart?!

That's why I think John is a disgusting father! You can't do that to your children!

sam and dean sharing a bed as kids ("Sammy has finally started sleeping through the night, and now that Dean shares a bed with him, he's out like a light too.")

Sammy tooking his first steps towards dean ("Sam took his first steps yesterday. He walked toward Dean, then fell flat on his face and started crying.")

Sam graduating at 19 and not going to the ceremony

Sam telling Dean and John he's going to Stanford 5 months before actually going (imagine the tension between them all during this period)

How Sam leaves for Stanford at the end of August, but Dean only mentions cutting off contact with him in November

John overhearing Dean talking about Sam on the phone (probably with Cassie Robinson)

How John would drive to Palo Alto to make sure Sam's alright (and he saw him with Jess)

John's last journal entry is 28th of October 2005. Dean goes after Sam in less than a week.
