Cedar Waxwings Continued - A collage of the waxwings during their visit on the 21st. I watched the updated animated version of How the Grimch Stole Christmas on NetflixKids recently. The original was, and remains, a favorite of mine, though I like the new one as well. For some reason, it popped into my mind that perhaps I need to take on the attitude of the residents of Whoville as I move into the holiday season. The Grinch is COVID, and it’s temporarily stolen many of my traditions and limited family gatherings, but the spirit of my Thanksgiving and Christmas celebration is not in these traditions. It is in my heart. Wherever you are, and whatever you’re doing, I wish you a happy holiday season, and challenge you to find joy wherever you can. I visited downtown Fort Worth on Tuesday for a new place to walk. I wasn’t expecting to find it so empty at 2PM on a workday. Sundance Square, normally full on a vacation week, was blocked off for holiday decorating that is usually completed. Daisy and I walked and walked and walked today in the cool, misty air. I think we both needed it. We started at Press Cafe and followed the Trinity River until we reached Tim Love’s Woodshed Smokehouse (about 4.5 miles RT) before turning around. I don’t know what’s different about this year. Maybe cooler evenings sooner in the season. The neighborhood magnolias as they age into fall are stunning. Daisy is easily 80+ pounds, but in her heart she is still the 8-pound ball of fluff that once snuggled in my lap on the floor that first summer she came home with Blake.
