Literay journal reaction #1
I think it was interesting that the two stories I read were so different. I read 42 tattoos and difficult decisions but not sun dance because I didn't have that book.
42 tattoos even tho we didn't get to talk about in class really made me think. It was my favorite story for this trio and I liked how it was set up so differently than difficult decisions. I liked how it was just facts posted on paper about tattoos.
Difficult decisions wasn't my favorite but I did like the dialogue in it. It kept me entertained through out the story and it gave good character description also. I wouldn't do something like that for my literary journal.

A handicap that I have lived with for the past five years is my knees. I hurt my knees when I was in high school and ever since I have not been able to do some more physically active things. Running and stairs have been the largest problems I have had. Since it happened I have tried not to think about it or complain about it despite how much it really affects my day to day life. I have to take the elevator to the second story sometimes because it hurts too much to take the stairs. If their is no elevator then I have to go slow and I feel like a burden because of it. On top of this, older people around me don't believe that I have problems and that because I am younger that I should be in perfect health when in reality it's not true.
This year I have finally stood up for myself and accepted that there are some things that I just can't do. I stood up for myself with my family and explained that an old injury is still painful if you don't let it heal in the mind as well as the body and that is what I have started doing. I'm still physically unable to do certain things but mentally, I am better at allowing myself the room to try.

A subject that could be broken up into long and short pieces would be technology. You can do a lot of research on technology and the different types of technology and when they were invented and for what purpose.
They can be broken up into large groups of different types of technology; computers, phones, tv, radios, lights, speakers, ect... Then the large groups can be broken up more into time periods, purpose, revelance, ect... With these groups and break downs you would have a list like Shield's 42 tattoos story.

What They Don't Tell You About Schizophrenia
When a younger person is mistakenly diagnosed with schizophrenia and started on medication for it, bad things happen to them. In latter teen years people can be diagnosed with multiple personalized disorders and some are misdiagnosed because a doctor is looking for a quick buck or just to get them out of the office. This is bad and that is because the medications for these disorders are made for adults and adolescent brains are not equipped to handle it. And when the misdiagnosed teen starts their medicine, their brains don't know what to do and how to handle it. Things start to happen and actual symptoms of the disease will start to appear over time. Then before you know it the teen actually has the diseases and will have to be medicated for the rest of their lives.

My cousin isn't the smartest or street smart person on the planet. She did graduate high school and she did attempt college for a month. But she is not cut out for smart decisions. She has two kids by two dad's and she lives at home with her own father and his girlfriend. She made a mistake a few years ago by not wearing a condom at a party and had gotten pregnant with her first child. Then she had met a guy who she liked and within about three months she had moved in with him and had her child. About five months later she was pregnant again. She stayed with her boyfriend and the two had another child but their relationship didn't last long after that and he had moved out. In the coming year my cousin would move from SD to California and back to SD. She would fight with both fathers and move into her dad's house. I don't understand even half of what she has done with her life. But I do get why she does some of the things that has in the last year. She tried getting her life on track and has since allow both fathers visitation to the kids and has started to save money for the future.

I remember when I was about five years old I had a cat named Sweet Pea and she was a pure white cat. She wasn't very old, maybe a year or two but she was still small and like to chase me around the house. One day as I was playing with her I was standing on top of a stool and it fell over. Sweet Pea was under the stool and didn't have time to move. She was crushed. Now my sister was home and was babysitting me at the time so when she heard the crash and my screams she came running. There was blood everywhere and I was sobbing and screaming. She pulled me aside and told me that she had popped a huge pimple on her chin and that the blood was from that. We had a fight over the blood. I was admit in it being from the cat I had just killed, bit she fought back that it was hers and it was from a pimple. After a few minutes I was angry and decided to take a shower, yes at five I took showers, to get the blood off of me. By the time I had come back she had cleaned the blood up and put everything back in it's place. I don't know where she had taken the cat but I was happy I didn't have to look at it anymore.

Fall In Iowa
Cicadas in Iowa are not like the ones in South Dakota. In Iowa, we have these huge trees everywhere that the cicadas love to sit in. These trees are quite large standing about 10-40 feet tall. They have branches that hang low enough to touch the ground, but none of the branches are at the base or trunk of the trees. The cicadas love how moist the ground is underneath these trees and this is where they burrow underground to lay eggs and where they eventually hatch the following fall. In the fall, the cicadas come out when the leaves on the trees turn golden, a color specific to these trees that not even the sun can compete with. The cicadas climb or fly into these trees and stay for the duration of their lives. the cicadas have this high pitched sound and you never know you are listening to it until winter comes and they die. The cicadas were this golden brown and green color that mimicked the leaves on the trees and even replaced the leaves. The trees shed the leaves in preparation for winter and the fallen leaves litter the ground making the sidewalks look like golden runways. The cicadas take up the space that the leaves leave behind, not even native Iowan’s can tell the difference sometimes. And when the cicadas die they fall to the ground and become another part of the golden runway, adding a sickening crunch to the otherwise serene walk. The sound of the cicadas will be one that is unique to the midwest, but the golden trees that come alive with a buzz will always be unique to the Iowa Autumn.

Pain 11/8
In late 2017 through early 2018 I had a lot of problems centered around food. I could feel hunger, smell food and crave it, cook and bake. But I couldn't eat anything without horrible pain. At fist I thought it was a period problem and ignored it. I ate smaller portions and I strayed away from certain types of food. Then around Thanksgiving I decided to hell with the pain I want to enjoy the food my family and me prepared. About 10 minutes into eating the meal I had to excuse myself and run to the bathroom to basically hurle everything back up. Then I waited a few minutes and went back out to try and eat more. I made it through a plate and a half before I called it quits and put my plate away. After 20-30 minutes I had this unimaginable pain in my lower right side and I thought I was going to be sick and shit myself at the same time. This lasted about three hours and I passed out after the pain had receded. About a month later around Christmas time I had mostly stopped eating altogether. My family had a semi get together and I was able to lie my way through the dinner. By this point in time I had given up eating anything but salad and soup broth because the pain was so bad. Then in January my roommate had had enough with me and the lack of eating I was doing. It was mid month so it had been about four months since my last full pain free meal. I went to the nurse station on campus and told them my symptoms and almost immediately that made me a same day hospital appointment where they checked my gallbladder. I got the results that afternoon and found that my gallbladder was not working at all. They then scheduled me for surgery two days later on Friday. The next Monday I was finally able to eat anything I wanted with very little pain.
