please god i am so deathly sick of people saying like "how is this straight the writers are so dumb!" about literal actual gay media i don't know how to break it to you people but nbc hannibal is about two men who are attracted to each other. jennifer's body is about two women who are attracted to each other. i know you guys are used to only consuming captain america movies and the occasional mark zuckerburg biopic but there are writers who actually write gay people and they do in fact do so on purpose. you don't have to say "i can't believe the writers thought this was heterosexual" they literally did not

Whats your opinion on the theory that Alex Jones is a psyop to make people who bring up 'real' conspiracies that the government did (stuff like MK Ultra, Operation Paperclip) seem crazy
He doesn't need to be a psyop. He fulfills that role simply by existing. If he is a psyop, he's the most dedicated actor in history.
He's basically just a racist charismatic preacher. Same basic model that America has been churning out since it's inception.

Do you think stuff like the birds aren't real joke theories could lead people into believing more dangerous conspiracy theories?
That's straight up happened. The whole "birds aren't real" thing has been incorporated into some people's conspiracy beliefs. I'm not sure if I can say that joking about it will inherently lead to believing in it seriously, but I do think that people often seriously misjudge how easily conspiracy thought incorporates things into itself.

Hi, this one is a bit of a vent, a bit of a story, and a bit of an ask. I am a culturally Christian gentile, but I am largely the descendant of a family of Hungarian Jews. During the Holocaust this family was killed by the Nazis, except for my great-grandfather. He was able to escape and get to Brazil. When he got there he had to assimilate to the very Christian culture, and when he passed away, so did my family's Jewish culture. Now, as a culturally Christian atheist I feel a sense of emptiness thinking about how the culture my family once had was destroyed. I don't think I ever will convert to Judaism because I honestly just don't have the energy for such a big change. I do want to know however, what could I do to help the Jewish community, and how can I connect more to my Jewish ancestry while avoiding cultural appropriation?
my recommendation would be to do some research into where your family was from and take note of what cultural foods they may have eaten, music they wrote, the languages they spoke, and see if there's anything there you want to pursue. learn how to make some of those foods, add some of that music to your favorite playlist, look into learning that language or at least just a bit. if you're able to find any pictures of family, save them to your phone or computer or print them out to keep them in an album.
also, if you want to honor and mourn your ancestors who were lost in the shoah in a specifically jewish way, i think it would be appropriate to light a yahrzeit candle for them on yom hashoah. if you know the date your great-grandfather died, i think you could also light a yahrzeit candle on that anniversary as well.
in terms of helping the jewish community, if you are financially stable, consider doing a yearly (or hey if you're comfortable with it maybe even monthly) donation to an organization like keshet. if you're not financially stable but are able to donate your time, you can reach out to your local synagogue and see if they need volunteers. especially around the high holidays, there is a lot to do, so they may really appreciate the help stuffing envelopes for invitations or helping with parking or security.
in terms of conversion, know that it's always an option but not an obligation. you are valuable to us, whether you choose to join the tribe or choose to be an ally. you have a unique relationship to am yisrael and it's okay to acknowledge and celebrate that.

I'm actually not hating on Overwatch for making Shintoism real for some reason, and I think more sci-fi settings should do that. Be bold.
Typical cyberpunk dystopia but nobody kills anything because A.I.s discovered Jainism is correct
Post-apocalyptic radioactive wasteland where justice depends on unblemished Sikh sword-saints
Space Opera but hyperspace jumps only function when overseen by a rabbi

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

hey. do you think fatphobia isn't real? do you think its made up? do you think fat people are complaining about the natural consequences of their actions?
why do you care?
no, really, why do you care so much about fat people? why do you care that they are "complaining"? why does it make you so mad? everyone complains. all the time. and, i mean, this is tumblr! nothing matter here. why do you care so much?
why do you get so angry at fat people you think are gross? why do you care so much about someone else's supposed eating habits? hygiene habits? lack of exercise routine? why does any of that matter?
are fat people actually doing anything to you? affecting your life? changing laws or bullying you? really? how? do you think that fat people are coercing skinny people into fat lifestyles? how? by existing? by complaining? by talking about problems in their life?
are you concerned that they're ruining their bodies? why do you care?
its not your body. its not your life.
unfortunately, if this post does end up getting gears turning, the people who change their mind won't say anything. the people most likely to respond are the fatphobic "anti-fat activists" who are blinded completely by their hatred of fatness and fat people. any fat person who finds this post, please be cautious of the notes. i don't know what they'll look like.
but if you have someone in your life who might benefit from these questions, go ahead and ask them. ask them to explain their bias. maybe it will make them see how pointless it is to hate fatness. safety first, however.

Is that character skinny because the designer felt the shape worked to express their artistic intentions, or are they skinny because that’s the default body type in our society?

You see, Perry the Platypus, when Vanessa was a little girl, she wanted to take estrogen. Of course, I said yes. And since then she’s always been my little girl. Well recently, Vanessa’s school deadnamed her on her reports! Can you believe that!? I mean we live in a fairly progressive area and—hey, isn’t that not allowed in public schools??
Anyway, that’s when I got the idea for THIS! The deadname-eraser-inator! That way, not only will Vanessa no longer be deadnamed, but EVERY OTHER TRANS PERSON IN THE TRI! STATE! AREA!

fatphobes are really stupid, tbh. like, most forms of oppression can be picked up on once you know where to look, but fatphobia is everywhere. its literally everywhere. its inescapable. it hurts everyone, in a way that most oppression doesn't.
that's probably related to how interconnected to other discrimination fatphobia is. fatphobia is racist, it's ableist, its classicist, it's deeply ingrained in the medical industry. even without all of that, it's intertwined with our food industry. our food industry! everybody eats, and so everyone is affected by the system of fatphobia, even if they're skinny and so aren't discriminated against.
i genuinely believe that, in the usa (where i live), we are being systemically starved. diet culture and fatphobia is so strong, that the food we buy in the store is just not enough to keep up full. the proportions are too small and the nutrients are non-existent.
think about this. older people, usually a mother, hears you're hungry and feeds you a 5 course meal. huge meals on holidays. potlucks. huge portions at sit-down restaurants.
i don't know this for sure, but i can't help seeing that every time we have an event with food, there's so much food available. is that because we don't eat enough day to day? we crave more but push it off for "special occasions".
the fear of fatness is so strong, the hatred for fat people so intense, it's social acceptable to starve. not even dieting, although that is part of it. just, eat less.
it's definitely connected to capitalism. eat less, work more, be so tired you can't do anything but work again tomorrow. fear poverty. fear fatness. fear failure. and the companies making your food make so much of it they stuff it in caves and sell you shitty tiny portions at stupid prices so they can grow their hoard. their billions.
idk.
td;lr: fatphobia is everywhere. its inescapable, and probably personally ruining your life unless you're rich enough to pay with time and money for actual nutrition.

i feel like a good litmus test for how much a person actually sees children as people is to ask them if they think children should be taught how to swear.
and by that i mean, swear words being introduced as any other type of word is, by osmosis and then explained with conversations about being kind/ what the words actually mean.
for example. say i have a child. i raised this child, without censoring myself. this child learns the word fuck and shit and etc. as words mainly said in frustration (i.e i stub my toe in front of them when they're like 2 and i say "Fuck!" and then they learn to say "fuck" when they're mad or in pain, etc.)
this child is in preschool now. they get frustrated with another child and swear at them. say they call them a "shithead".
it is then my responsibility as their caregiver to explain to them that insults are harmful. that it is better for everyone if my child told the other child why they are upset, instead of lashing out. and if they are too angry to explain, they should take a step back and come back later when they've calmed down. i ask my child to apologize to the other child, with the understanding that the other child might not forgive them (want to play with them anymore), and that my child doesn't have to play with them after they've made amends either.
yknow.
like parenting.
children swear all the time, even if they've never heard the word ass. or damn. or shit or fuck or bitch.
poophead. butt. stupid. gross. crap.
children already swear. adding "adult" versions of the words to their vocab won't "corrupt" their "innocence" or ruin their brains or anything. they're just words. words that represent emotion. emotions children are already expressing.
"but warnick!" i hear you cry, "fuck has sexual connotations that shit doesn't! we can't have the children saying sex words!!!"
first, fuck is an incredibly versatile word that isn't always sexual. but you are correct. it does have that connotation that shit doesn't.
but children should be allowed to know about sex.
"even 5 year olds????"
yes.
no i'm not kidding. a 5 year old should have the basic concepts of sex and sexuality explained to them, as well as the current laws and social taboos surrounding sex that apply to them.
knowing about sex =/= having sex
a 5 year old should know that there are parts of their body that can make them feel good, and that those parts should only be touched by people they, personally, trust, in ways that they are okay with. it should be explained that some people, including people they see every day, might try to touch them in ways they won't like. it should be explained that they should not touch other children in those places, or have others touch them there, to make them feel good.
they should be given the words to explain what they are feeling, and when needed, what happened to them if they were sexually abused.
above all, consent should be taught to children. true consent is only possible when a party knows what they are agreeing to or refusing. language is crucial to this.
also, its funny when kids say "goddamnit" because they dropped their popcicle.
not because they are not-people mimicking people and that's silly.
but because they are people, learning how to live and breathe and express themselves, and that brings me joy. go little human, go.
